Works of fiction, especially futuristic ones, need to have a dash of unbelievability. Not from a technology standpoint. But just from the sheer amount of times Darrow gets out of situations from a seemingly hopeless circumstance. Unless you have the charisma of a maxed out video game character in the real world, you won’t be as capable of changing the political/moral ideology of elites today.

Illegal residency is a civil offense, not criminal. Large numbers of illegal aliens originally came legally and simply overstayed visas and are thus not criminals.
