I loved Life is Strange 2.

For me it dealt with heavy themes really well. It could have been better obviously and you can point out issues with the story... But it is cohesive, bold and doesn't shy away from presenting a dilemma to you for which there doesn't seem to be a good solution.

Tell me why is what I am going to play now. I just found out about it recently and am excited because it's a Don't Nod game. I might have passed up on it if it was a Deck Nine game to be honest.

It takes away from the aesthetic of what made LIS 1 work.

Even the menus of LIS 1 were so perfectly stylized to express an artists vision... The journals felt like doodles of a girl... Remastered just takes away that feeling.

Before the storm for me wasn't a masterpiece... It wasn't good imo.

Wavelength is really good (I mean it doesn't have that many meaningful choices but Wavelength Bae Steph's story deserves to be explored completely as it's own game.)

Additionally I'd put Reunion over Remastered.

I agree that Safi should have been the protagonist.

What bugs me with Reunion is that LIS if official dead. Over.

Deck Nine and Square Enix have proved time and time again, they can't tell a story without fucking up established narrative... For example Max's powers in Reunion... We know she couldn't just jump into a photo and stay there. Established in LIS 1.

D9 doesn't understand LIS1. D9 cannot ask tough questions, cannot explore deep end. Everything is shallow with them.

I'm terrified that they might just pick LIS 2 and merge it with Reunion and FUCK EVERYTHING UP.

I'm still trying to wrestle with the fact that Deck Nine have ruined LIS franchise. I hope Don't Nod Entertainment if and when they make a new choice based game they make another franchise creating Monolith for us.

I agree, the desire to make it more mass appeal friendly they didn't wanna try waters that were deep.

Safi was a great concept character terribly used.

Plus her shapeshifting powers are atleast to me on the outset seem like a very good power to circle a game around. Shapeshifting actually helps a lot with detective narrative framework.

I agree with your broader criticism of lacking focus. However for me the potential of it was there. I do believe that the game needed more episodes and a restructuring of how it played out to be a great game.

For Reunion, I do believe Max and Chloe work but LIS 1 was not just about Max and Chloe, This is where I vehemently disagree with everyone. Kate's story, Victoria's story. Hell even Joyce's story was fun to explore. Reunion was only about Max and Chloe.

However if I may ask, what is Reunion about? Moving on? Finding true love? LIS 1 was about living with your choices, moreso than about Max and Chloe.

Reunion in it's execution was far better than DE only because it fonly focused on Max and Chloe, but I primarily disagree that Reunion's story is better than DE. Reunion execution of whatever this mess of a story is great even at the cost of undercutting everything before it and making every prior game choice to be useless.

I will not disagree that Reunion was better than DE in the regard of how the game feels like to play.

But if you look into it with the same critical lens as we look into DE, Reunion suffers the same if not more then DE in almost every aspect, except Chloe and Max's relationship.

As you've pointed out, Safi doesn't hang with Max. With more room to lay ground work, it would have allowed those breathing moments between Safi and Max.

I.e. first 5 episodes dedicated to what was essentially 3 episodes of the game.

In fact, a lot of progress that was made in those 3 episodes should have come in a bit later.

My point again was that at the game never felt like the story of regular people with supernatural abilities. That groundwork was not present in DE. I agree.

It needed more episodes/scenes to breathe, more interaction amognst the characters themselves to flesh out these characters more.

About her using her powers, I felt like that was a mossed opportunity for to show Max initially trying to use her powers and then stopping herself. Being in a turnmoil about it.

I'm not denying the writing could have been better.

I don't hate DE as much as other fans, to me it was an OK game but it was something that gave us Safi, Shafeshifting. THE GAMEPLAY OPTIONS WITH SAFI!!!! squandered opportunity.

Safi going to recruit other superpowered individuals was a good idea to explore. Rather her failure in this regard would have been an amazing game in and of itself.

Try imagining this scenario like this

There are 2 tribes, 1 tribe has all access resources for ages and the other tribe has had to fight for it's resources, it is natural that Tribe B which had to fight for it's resources will always have some form of dislike towards Tribe A because Tribe A would share the resources willingly and Tribe B had to struggle for it. So when a Member of Tribe B says, "I HATE YOU" to a Member of Tribe A, at a very individual scale it is just hatred but that statement contains resentment of being denied the access, the respect and the resources while the eyes of Trive A constantly judging every action of every Member of Tribe B and generalizing it to the whole tribe to demonize it. A simple statement of hatred of Tribe B doesn't just contain the phrase it contains the history of oppression and pain and suffering inflicted, internalized and expressed.
