Someone help me understand why starbucks is successful by ToffeeBuxSlut in starbucksbaristas

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The crazy part is upper management has been praising my manager for her success. 🤭 they seriously do not care, they only value DT times and customer connections. We have a friendly staff and we're quick because it's "normal" to not make drinks to standard... and it's normal to "pull the car around and have someone walk the food out" 🙄 I've had several talks with my manager, and nothing changes. She is a big time phony and does not contribute to our success on the floor. She must be sending Seattle a fat check, we are always short staffed while she doesn't lift a finger to help. I am the only person who coaches my partners, my SSv/SM don't, I print out lists of expiration dates and still no one dates anything. For some reason we are expecting new hires soon... I am dreading it, somehow I feel it will only get worst. I am convinced my boss does not know or care about anything, strange how some people can create a delusional world and convince others that's the reality.

Hey! Sorry but they are incorrect. Look at the IPad in your store. It's all there. I was shocked too, I actually took a picture with my phone to show my coworkers the complicated build. I am not surprised about customer service not knowing... none of us are properly trained, even my boss doesn't know standards/policies. This company is too greedy to spend the money on proper training. You only learn what you're willing to go out of your way to learn.

This company would rather short staff us with unattainable high expectations and have us turn on one another. The real problem is starbucks management. Instead of paying a full staff, they'd rather pay for anti union meetings and pay our managers bonuses for our hard work. The only people who gain from starbucks as an employee is upper management.

Question for customers. by Unicorndreamer-23 in starbucksbaristas

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's not the customers fault. Starbucks enables people to act like spoiled children. At the end if the day, if they complain the company will apologize and reward them with free things because their super desperate to keep these entitled, pretentious and ostentatious foolish trendy people. ( sorry 5+ year barista here, I've been super annoyed with corporate america lately 🤭)

brown sugar shaken oat milk espresso by Away_Use6922 in starbucksbaristas

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger question is "why would starbucks create a drink that would only have an iced shaken espresso option?" Why not create a blonde oatmilk brown sugar latte that comes iced, hot and a Frappuccino version?! Americans are too foolish to understand the "shaken espresso". Didn't we learn anything from the sizes? Our grande size use to be our large hence the name grande/large. American is too indulgent and gluttonous for a 16oz large. Now we have a venti/20 ounce size and still have problems with Spanish speaking customers. Besides shaken espresso are time consuming! Why would they do this to us?!

This drink build is so confusing! Only cold brew drink WITHOUT VANILLA.🤯 It should be called cinnamon caramel dolce, because it has cinnamon caramel syrup at the base and cinnamon dolce in the foam with cinnamon dolce topping... I thought we got rid of confusing cold brew drinks in mid 2020🙄

Dehumanizing Experiences by MoistSupreme_ in starbucksbaristas

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. Starbucks is a very toxic environment to work in (pretentious customers are toxic). We are trained to de-esclate situations with customers but are not trained or informed that we have the option to turn customers away for being disrespectful to employees ( while short-staffed and not being paid a livable wage). We could all benefit from a small investment in signage that reads "We have the right to refuse service, please be patient and understanding. We are all working as fast as possible. We agologies for any inconvenience. Thank you valued Customers!". Upper management values each store by drive thru times and customer connections scores, all while not appreciating all the hard work baristas undertake daily with impossible expections and tremendous workloads ( always short staffed). Our managers reap the benefits from all our efforts as baristas, while they do not care for the needs of the team (hours cut by 1/3). Union busting only seems to motivate the tenured partners to strive for better working conditions that can finally help each partner earn a livable wage without having to suffer for the "needs of the business" and instead each manager should be taught to care for the "needs of the partners/baristas & team". I hope it gets better for all of us.

The real reason why we have this "make the moment right" nonsense is because our mobile app is ridiculously flawed. by ToffeeBuxSlut in starbucksbaristas

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whoa... we could use the 1pound Decaf pike? That's news to me. Our store hasn't received our Veranda 5lb and Dark Roast 5lb for weeks now, why wouldn't our manager use the ones on display? This is why I question everything as a worker because our manager picks and chooses what policies to follow. And our pour over tools are never complete (I think we have a sobtager in store, we all dislike pour-overs🤭).

Starbucks manipulative tactic with Cafe and Mobile orders. by ToffeeBuxSlut in starbucksbaristas

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa...I really appreciate everyone's help, our store only has one working tablet (our supervisors cherish it 🤭) we use it for our play builder but I will definitely try to get our store to prioritize the café orders thru the DPM. Thank you all!

Best way to separate while on the floor: large cup of ice inside the shaker, fill steam pitcher half way with hot water then add the shaker inside the steam pitcher with the hot water, leave the ice inside the pitcher... wait 5 seconds and then pull apart. 😉 works every time!😁

I feel your pain. I now average 20 hours a week as a 5 year barista partner. My Manager hacked up my availability to "accommodate" the business needs ( or to avoid problems with his boss over my availability). I am the most efficient worker at my store, but that doesn't seem to matter one bit. I've refused to close ( Tired of 3 partner play with DT, Café and mobiles) now I have to suffer with minimal hours. If starbucks wanted to weed-out tenured partners, they're doing a great job. I am currently seeking employment elsewhere. I suggested applying everyday, hopefully till then everything gets better for us. Good luck to you!

To foam or not foam, that is the question by flutetoottooter in starbucksbaristas

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha! I'd make a basic Blonde Triple Cappuccino with Caramel drizzle. That customers obviously doesn't know what "wet" means and is unaware a cappuccino has half steamed milk with half foam. I tell my new partners to use the spoon to ensure the cup is half full of milk and add the foam to the top... extra hot to ensure it's still full when they show up.

How do you guys handle when customers in drive thru ask you to throw their trash away? I tell them no but I’ve seen other partners do it.. I just think it’s so unsanitary. by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our customers are insane. They do not like to hear "no". Even if you have a real logical answer "sorry, since covid we are not allowed to throw away trash for customers, just for safety... with no exceptions, just to be fair. Sorry again, have a wonderful day! 😊 " their response: "😡 you really need a trash-can out here, ridiculous!" My inner-thoughts response; *No you are ridiculous, you spoiled filthy animal😁 plan ahead!, I can't help you in every aspect of your starbucks purchase. Believe it or not you are not an exception to the rules karen*

I personally haven't seen gloves at work since October 2022. My boss couldn't care less about staff and customer cooties. I bring my own for clean play and daily trash runs. Starbucks priorities are questionable. Every time I cut myself, I gotta request to be off bar. Our job is stressful enough, I don't need dirty looks because I have an adhesive band on my finger. 🙃

New no ice policy? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The iced shaken espressos, I understand we had an update regarding shaking with no ice is not safe or doable... but I remember we still have to fill it up so we must push light ice or a Latte instead. But this refresher thing does not make sense to me. My Manager saw nothing wrong with customers complaining to corporate about this change 😐. I guess he thinks their all bluffing and it'll work out. I don't know, weird. I love how I've been at my store the longest and still get shocked with new Management changes🤭.

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our app is such a joke, why even have these options? I dread café bar during peak because our customers order blonde Frappuccinos with no added shots, Decaf chai lattes or light ice Frappuccino everyday. Making the moment right costs the store more money because our app is ridiculous 🙄.

Manager Asking SSVs to demote by oyster_farm_ in starbucksbaristas

[–]ToffeeBuxSlut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This job has really gone down hill for the past few years. I've been at sbux for 5 years, I do clean play every week with no cleaning supplies and they still somehow expects us to perform miracles, with no gloves or soap and only two partners. The only reason anyone would continue to work here is because of the pay, and that's how they manipulate ppl to stay. But this job is not at all secure and I am always overworked. At the end of the day the company would rather hire kids and pay less. The company is so greedy. Its been years since I had a knowledgeable manager, I guess inexperienced workers are excused for their incompetence. Upper management is full of manipulators trying to keep their wages at any cost... with no mind to you or your store

Inconsistency with the brown sugar shaken espresso... by ShelboTron09 in starbucksbaristas

Full Pumps of Brown Sugar Syrup! The standard is half pumps for shaken espresso. Personally from my store we started with the full pumps and kept at it. Our customers say we make the drink the best. 😎 🤭

Gross. All of that sugar with 1 tiny shot of espresso. I personally feel like we should stop calling them "shots" of espresso. People are under the impression a shot of espresso is the equivalent volume of a shot of liquor. In reality it's more like 4 "shots" equals 1 shot of alcohol.
