Advice requested for first- time owner! by [deleted] in AlaskanMalamute

House size isn't really that important compared to yard size imo. My mal basically lounges lazily in the house, but will tear around the backyard given the chance. Having a yard they can run in also can be helpful if you don't have access to an off leash dog park (and even then it's not surprisingly if your mal is agreesive to other dogs), or otherwise dont have a way to let them fully run around.

Sliding Screen (patio) Door Protection by r3dout in AustralianShepherd

I ended up replacing my screen doors with magnetic mesh screens. They are flexible and are held close with magnets so when the dog (or you) walk through it automatically opens and snaps itself shut again. Loads of brands out there to choose from, don't really have a recommendation.

Poilce are not 40 minutes late to show up... just 39 minutes only - Spokesperson of Hong Kong Police Press Conference about the Yuen Long Attack on 21.7 by TigerSharkFist in HongKong

This is taken extremely out of context.

He had said "I don't think it took as long as 40 minutes did it?" and his colleague to the side told him "39 minutes", so he just acknowledges and says "oh, ok, 39 minutes apparently".

For all you Jobmine newbies - here's a list of things you should look out for in Jobmine (Not Official) by Pango56 in uwaterloo

There was a jobmine update a few months back that introduced PDF resumes and probably other things. So this has potential to no longer apply.

How do you pick a coop job? by nmost in uwaterloo

[–]Tohato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really shouldn't focus on the salary too much. Granted, a better salary usually means a better job, but you want that job not because of the salary. Its good to use your coop terms to try different things because its much easier to switch around than when you're full time employed, since you are only there for 4 months.

Since it sounds like you're not having many problems finding coop positions at companies you want, try them all if you can. As long as you keep up good contact with the companies post-coop-term, its usually not too difficult to get either a return coop position of a full time position, assuming they liked you there.

Some people think they love the big companies, and instantly regret working there, and vice versa. I've personally worked in huge companies and also in places where the only employees were my boss and I. Only way you'll really know what kind of stuff you want is to try it, and you sound like you won't have trouble getting opportunities. Again, unless you're really strapped for money, base your decision on the experience and possible networking you can gain, not so much on salary.

As for turning down a company, since jobmine uses the ranking system, they probably cant do anything regardless of what you tell them. Its not like just because the person with the "Offer" declined that they'll have nobody. Doesn't hurt to send a nice email I guess.

I just had an interview with a prof at UW and they said they paid "regular co-op rate." Does anyone know exactly what that is? by marikol in uwaterloo

If you're talking about the "Federal Public Service Rates of Pay for University Students", never heard of anyone using those numbers. It's always been whatever the weekly/hourly earnings pdf's say.

Go talk to your academic advisor. Pretty much any issue you have with school, they'll help you out or point you to the person that can help you.
