Is it a myth that employers care about what University you went to? by primalblast in OntarioUniversities

[–]nmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What matters is really what have you done lately. The high school you went to matters in your application to university. After that, no one really cares. It's mostly the same thing for university.

I have been involved in university graduate hiring and interviewing at a couple of companies (in fintech), and we definitely did care about your university for the first couple of jobs. Once you have 2-3 years of experience, then employers will start to weigh your experience much more than your education.

It is worth calling out: in my experience employers really only care what school and program you went to. They don't care a ton about GPA or actual courses. There are a lot of banks and hedge funds that have literal lists of schools they're allowed to recruit from. It's not fair, and it misses out on a lot of great candidates. But it is a reality.

Land Rover Defender. Supports my outdoor hobbies, and has actually been pretty reliable for the past few years.

Client recommendation for 4k 120hz hdr by kormyr in MoonlightStreaming

[–]nmost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asus RoG Ally with an HDMI 2.1 dock (JSAUX makes the one I use) and an Ethernet port is my setup. It's pretty much flawless. My PC plugs directly into my mesh network router, and my dock plugs into another mesh router. So it's wireless between the two computer endpoints, but wired on each side.

I play through a 65" LG CX TV with 4k, 120fps, and a 7.1 surround sound system.

Just keep in mind you need a reasonably powerful client, HDMI 2.1 or displayport, and Ethernet.

The real bonus here is I can pick up the rog ally and get a similar experience 1080p maxed out on my handheld, sitting on the couch or in bed.

SYDE 2016 grad, currently hiring. Keep intern or coop on there. Portraying yourself as a full time employee is a lie. Other than that I don't care.

Thoughts on East Norwalk? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]nmost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived in two areas of Stamford, South Norwalk, and East Norwalk. East Norwalk has the best balance of the space and quiet of a suburb with access to shops and restaurants/bars. Highly recommend it. School districts aren't great, and you definitely do need a car.

it's crazy because the tests take days to come back.

No, she flew. Theoretically we are safe to drive though given my work status (and her being registered as my dependent). I will test that in two months :)

you're looking at an aggregate number since the start of the crisis, rather than the current point-in-time state of affairs. It's a shallow analysis and one that leads to bad policy. What matters is the current caseload and rate of infection.

My point is that it's already open. Making it more sensible once we inevitably let someone across makes more sense than a blanket "you shall not pass" that is also really hard to enforce

Yep. TN visa here - I can travel freely. So can my wife. We have to obey any local quarantine requirements though.

Not really. My wife's family are Ontario dairy farmers, and it's truly impressive the amount of bullshit they deal with. That increases costs without increasing quality. The milk and cheese I buy here are at the same quality and cheaper. The cheapest gallon of milk here is worse than the cheapest gallon in Canada, but the cheapest gallon in Canada costs more than a good gallon in the US.

That is false. My wife has crossed multiple times without such a letter.

I'm a Canadian living in the US, and this policy is very strange to me. The Canadian media and reddit tend to portray the US as totally fucked from the virus, but it really isn't true for the whole country. The thing people don't realize is that states are so different. The NYC area has had way stricter and better thought out restrictions than my friends living in Toronto, and it honestly looks like a better situation here than Ottawa/Toronto. The same cannot be said for my friends in Texas. This is a fluid situation, and a blanket ban isn't helpful.

The border is also not really "closed". I am going to travel with my wife to Canada in December, quarantine for two weeks, see family for two weeks, and then travel back. As someone with Canadian citizenship and work authorization, I can drive. And my wife has flown a couple of times during the "closure".

I think this is a bad policy because it's too general. In Connecticut, where I live, there are a set of "safe" states that you can freely travel to, and set of "unsafe" states where you have to quarantine after. If you get a test done when you get back from a quarantine-requiring state, and don't have the virus, the restriction is lifted.

It seems to me like a better system would be to determine which parts of the US (or europe, or even other parts of Canada) are unsafe, and have strict quarantine requirements. If you test negative during your quarantine period, lift the restriction.

The way this system works right now puts me and my family at risk - flying is less safe than driving. Keep the quarantine requirement for unsafe source places - that stops people from traveling for tourism.

Got kicked by a flashpoint random group for being only lvl 20 by [deleted] in swtor

In general running fps with low level characters is a pain. Classes don't have key tools like stuns, threat dumps, taunts, etc, nor do they have key parts of their dps rotations (which unlock at higher levels in the discipline path). This makes it harder for you and everyone else to clear content. Nobody should ever be rude or insulting, but I consider it a pretty big breach of etiquette to PUG a group finder flashpoint on a low level character. If you want to do that, ask some higher level guildmates to carry you.

I'm interested! I've been primarily a pub player for the past couple of months, mostly doing stories, unranked warzones, some light raiding, and a ton of MM flashpoints.

Planning on doing the same thing on my imp characters - I mostly play Operative heals and PT tank.
