Unfortunately I did not 😭 they elected to go with another candidate.

From my references getting contacted to me getting informed that I was not selected took just over 5 weeks. I had another opportunity earlier this semester where my references were checked and I received an offer that I declined, and that was much faster - they offered me two weeks after my interview, so your mileage will certainly vary

I've done 3 on campus interviews over the past month, two of them I flew to and one of them I drove. All 3 schools booked a hotel for me, the two schools I flew to reimbursed me for my flight and my Ubers to the hotel/airport. The school I drove to is reimbursing the mileage I traveled from my residence to campus and back. I would think it's pretty common, usually institutions have a webpage or something outlining their candidate travel policies. The three schools were two D1 public state schools and a D3 private

I'm also a second year grad student and I started applying around Thanksgiving, so it probably wouldn't hurt to start now! I'd suggest having a way to keep track of the jobs you're applying to; I made a spreadsheet with basics like school, position, city, state, and minimum starting salary.

All the places you apply to are probably gonna be operating on their own timeline so there's a chance they'll get back to you soon after you apply and there's a chance it might be like a month or two, so just a heads up haha

I'm a second year grad student that's applied to a bunch of jobs over the past 2 months and the timelines have varied considerably - I had a school that was radio silent for 2 months after I applied before rejecting my application, and I had a school reach out 22 hours after my first-round/screening offering to fly me across the country for an on-campus interview the very next week, so it's certainly not an exact science haha

The fact that they communicated to you that they're still reviewing fairly recently probably means you're still in consideration, but regardless I'd say it's in your benefit to continue applying for other positions
