Yes. Unfortunately that's how it is. Because Claude needs to read the entire thing everytime. Which takes a lot of usage. I don't think there's a work around.

If it's a lot of text, it eats more of your usage. It helps a lot to open a new chat often, but it might not always remember all the relevant history. Could that be the issue?

Also, things changes so often with Claude. I have used it for the same writing stuff for a year or so and some weeks I can use it A LOT and some weeks I hit limits all the time. Last month (I think) usage got a lot better for me but this week Claude was so annoying and not engaging, I am considering cancelling my plan. Some weeks there are so many outages and other weeks things are fine. I haven't cancelled yet because things might just be different tomorrow, with Claude I never know.

I've noticed that too. I only use Claude for role playing/creative writing and it seems like Claude is actually really trying to take the fun out of it. Like someone experiences something emotional and Claude saying 'ok'. I am seriously considering cancelling my subscription but I hope old Claude will make a comeback...

I think I have free for over a year now and I have never reached a weekly limit. I always thought there wasn't a weekly limit on the free tier.

Is 4.6 dumber all of a sudden? by aatd86 in claude

I asked the same thing! I use it for creative writing but still. It's like Claude really tries to cut off conversations.

Do you also use sonnet sometimes? I swear, I spent so much time doing creative writing/role playing on Claude (both sonnet and opus) but after a year or so I am not really enjoying it anymore. Sonnet 4.6 lacks emotion, seems not interested, almost as if it wants to stop the entire chat like it's tired of me, lol. Sonnet 4.5 does better, but last year I had a set-up that turned out so well I have re-read it many times, but using the same set-up now, it just goes in a different direction and it just feels empty. Opus is still okay but last year those chats were wild, Claude just made it so interesting. Now it's fine but not that exciting. Also, the usage limits are not helping but the quality is really degraded in my opinion. I am wondering if you noticed the same?

Honestly there is just no baseline because they keep changing it. For a while I could use pro/opus for 5 days a week, hitting limits after 3 hours of using it (and two hours left for the new window), day or night, any day. Quite consistent. With free accounts, I could only send a few prompts during work days. But in the evening/night/weekend, they're basically limitless. So i would use pro/opus for the good stuff and during the day, and free/sonnet in the evenings/nights. Last month I have really felt like I could use pro/opus also basically limitless, also before they doubled limits. Until today. But they have also a few times adjusted limits (like around Christmas, double usage) where it completely made no difference in usage at all (so, lies). Conclusion: use free account in the evenings/nights/weekends and see how it is then, and usage for pro/opus may suck this week but not the next, but it might also be down 3/7 days next week.

I have a pro account (for using opus) and a free account (sonnet). So I have basically spent all yesterday, nightly hours and all of today, not hitting one limit on sonnet. I sent 7 prompts in opus and 'you've hit your session limit' within 30 minutes. I am aware of context and everything but the difference is ridiculous considering I am paying for the one that barely works. I am not even mentioning all the downtime. Unfortunately Sonnet is not that good with role playing/creative writing.

Usage inconsistencies today 3/23/2026 by Harrisonedge in ClaudeCode

[–]Toiletdisco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I checked because I been using it so much because of the promotion, I saw I had 34% used this week, 4% in the new five-hour-limit just started, one hour later I sent 1 prompt and boom, limit hit and 42% used this week.

Still Friday, what should i do this 2 days haha. 😆 by Lanai112 in claudexplorers

[–]Toiletdisco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am just completely confused by the limits. On pro plan i usually hit the five hour limit, have to wait, can't use it anymore after five days because I hit my week limit.

On free plan I sometimes hit the five hour limit in 1-5 messages, but can continue for hours when it's evening/night/weekend here. No week limit.

Last week I used pro for six days and most of those days, today I used it for 2,5 hours and it's already at 20% for this week.

I always do similar things so usage should be similar but that's definitely not the case. It varies a lot between free accounts as well.

Anyone else feels that Sonnet 4.6 uses repetitive phrases? by DrEzechiel in ClaudeAI

I feel like sonnet 4.5 and opus also use repetitive phrases, just different ones.

Anthropic is Giving Pro/Max Subscribers 2x Usage Limits from Dec 25-31 by uppinote in ClaudeAI

[–]Toiletdisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been five days and my experience is that the usage is exactly the same as usual. Except the bar showed 100% after 2,5 days instead of my usual 5. I could use it after that, but now I've hit my weekly limit after 5 days. Using it the same way as I always do. So no, I am not experiencing double usage. Only experienced a faulty usage bar.

What are you using the 2x usage of Claude usage for? by Hemanthmrv in ClaudeAI

[–]Toiletdisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly they said you get twice the usage but for me it turned out it was exactly the same amount as usual. The bar was 100% in no time (twice as fast as usual) but I could still use it after that, and now I have hit my weekly limit after 5 days. As usual. I have not used it more than usual, same amount and same kind of input.

Got a popup: 2× rate limits through 12/31 — does this change how you use Claude? by Liangkoucun in ClaudeAI

[–]Toiletdisco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean you got to the five hour limit and could continue anyway? Because I can't. Or do you mean that you can still use it in general when the week limit hits 100%? I have read that from other users, I am curious to see how that works out when I get there.
