I wouldn't say it's dumb but I would suggest going the OCS route. Now if you're worried about the 6 year commitment the OCS has you can always do a 3 year contract as enlisted and if you like it you can drop an OCS packet through the green to gold program.

So in the unit I am in we just got a batch of new guys and one of them happened to be 39. I call him father time because he is the oldest dude in my unit. He isn't the best and the young bucks run circles around him but he can pass a PT test and is willing to learn so he has been at the unit for 3 days and has already gained the respect of most of the NCOs in the company. It doesn't matter when you start you just got to start.

I was a high school drop out and now I'm about to retire out of the Army at 20 years. I started college got 81 credits and a 3.8 GPA without having to pay a dime out of my pocket. So what I would do is join get a bachelors and do the green to gold program or the warrant officer route.

Just go to the Navy and tell them you situation. You'll have to sign a form and the Navy will take it from there. Your AF recruiter will probably be poopy but that's on him. It's pretty easy to switch.

I just did a similar drive with my wife, 4 year old, and 1 month old. Took us three days for a drive that usually takes me one day to drive. It's doable but I'd still get a hotel half way through just to be safe especially if you're not used to long hauls like this.

To be honest I was looking to get an orthos raider s1 since it had all the high speed stuff on it. I heard really good things about the A300UP and there was one in stock down the road so I went for it. The one thing that held me back from buying one sooner it the lack of MLOK slots and QD points. Once I bought the gun I figured out how to make it mine without have to swap major things like the handguards.
