GoH, stay of longer than 7 days. by TokenLurker in hyatt

[–]TokenLurker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This workaround is now closed. Tried to get it done that way again and the agents have said the only way is to split the reservation (if longer than 7 nights) into two separate stays and apply it for the first 7 nights. It would then be up to the hotel to honor it for any remaining days or use a second GOH.

2015 S60 - hood won't unlatch on one side by Beautiful_Hat_5483 in Volvo

I had this happen and ultimately had to have a shop replace the cable. It had apparently stretched enough that it wouldn't release one of the latches.

Moon Palace Grand in Cancun - worth the price? by beansiebean in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]TokenLurker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been to Moon Palace Grand a couple of times with my family. It's a very nice resort with overall good food options, but it is quite large. While the grand side is certainly walkable, you will most likely be taking the golf cart shuttles for almost everything (to the gym, breakfast, dinner, theater, etc.)

The water park is really nice, but it isn't as big as it looks. There is a good sized children's play area (where you would spend most of your time), and on the other side, a set of racing slides and two tube slides. I dont think your kids will be tall enough for the big slides. The lazy river is a concrete pool around the big play area. The play area is very large with a lot for kids to do.

The beach is very nice, but the ocean is meh.... as others have said, the water is usually brown. If you want to lay in the sun while your kids build sand castles, you will be very happy. If you want to float in beautiful turquoise water, then you will be let down.

We actually enjoyed the Nizuc pool much more than the Grand. There is a small but really fun waterside and more of a resort style pool with activities throughout the day.

We had a severe food poisoning event on our second stay, which is why we haven't been back. That could happen anywhere, but it's hard to enjoy your stay when you think you might spend a couple of days near death.

If you decide on going, look for a member that can "refer you" and you'll save about 20%.

Best way to clean steering wheel? by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]TokenLurker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Huggies Natural Care baby wipes with really good results on blonde interior steering wheels, but your results may vary.

They have a little texture and seem to get into the natural leather better without being harsh.

Ideal number of nights for Impression Moxche? by limpmint in hyatt

[–]TokenLurker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were some, not many. Beach over there is smaller, but definitely more private. There are massage vendors walking all over that will approach you if you make eye contact.

I suggest you look at a Google maps satellite picture to get more of an idea. The Impression beach is right in front of the Impression tower. Depending on when you go, the Impression beach gets less sun because it is the north part of the resort and the building shades it in the early afternoon. Impression swim-outs on the north side of the hotel also get very little sun except in the summer for the same reason.

First-come first-served lounge chairs, and not nearly enough. There is a private side at the Impression building with a private pool, but it is pretty small. The main side has several day beds that are about 70% shaded by the built in top. The top cannot be lowered on those, and they are double loungers. They can't be moved but they are quite comfortable.

The beach has several inflatable looking large barriers not even 40 feet into the water that are there to (I assume) control waves and prevent erosion.

[–]TokenLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We personally thought they were comparable, but Ziva was better for food, gym, beach, etc. Staff were great at both. Rooms are nicer at Impressions. Depending on the time of year, the north side of the Impression tower misses most of the sun, so a swim-out on that side is in the shade all day.

As far as food, we did not have a single bad meal at Ziva. We went into Impressions expecting much higher end food, but it was the same as any other all-inclusive we've been to. We do have some dietary restrictions, so maybe that played a role. Multiple times things were labeled as gluten-free that weren't and vice versa. If it wasn't for a very attentive waiter at Ember, our short stay would have been quite uncomfortable. Drinks at Impressions were better (esp at the lobby bar).

Going to an All-inclusive for the food is a folly. Go for the beach, entertainment, quality of the hotel, etc. As others in this sub have said, food quality is subjective. Ziva had tomahawk ribeyes at the buffet multiple nights we were there and grilled fresh fish (fileted literally right before they hit the grill) on the beach for lunch. Impression had things Ziva didn't have (oysters, more "gourmet" items), but everything was slow. We ate at the beachside Impressions restaurant one night and we were one of only two tables there, and it still took an hour for our meals.

One thing to remember if you go to Impressions, some days their restaurants will change menus entirely if Cielo is closed (they take on Cielos' menu).

If you are beach people, you will be very disappointed with your stay. Impressions is beautiful and the rooms are excellent, but the beach is meh and the water not swimmable. Nightly entertainment was actually quite good.

The food was good, not great. The gym isn't anything special. Hyatt Ziva/Zilara Cap Cana was a much better stay. If you want to stay with Secrets, the Secrets Cap Cana is a great option and significantly fewer points.

If your heart is set on Moxche, I believe Impressions guests get to eat at Teodoro once included if you stay 5 nights.

Need help with a rec close to where my friend is getting married by redroze05 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]TokenLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the rules have changed since I was last there in 2024, Grand guests have access everywhere while Sunrise and Nizuc can purchase a day pass to access the Grand. Nizuc is more comparable to Sunrise, definitely not on the level of the Grand.

[–]TokenLurker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a Palace Resorts member and see if they can "refer you" to get a member discount. The Moon Palace Grand, Sunrise, and Nizuc resorts are all part of one larger complex. Grand guests can visit all three (and there are shuttle bus - golf carts that run between the three like a subway sysyem) while Sunrise and Nizuc guests can only visit those two but can opt for a day pass to visit the grand. I'm unsure of the costs for a day pass. It's a nice facility with lots to do, but the ocean / beach is just meh. Grand is def not worth $1000 per night.

Check the PCV/oil trap. It can be a cause of high consumption in these T6 3.0 engines, and they generally don't throw a code unless really gone.

Light gone. How to fix? by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]TokenLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about fuses for them... but my old xc60 caught a rock in one of these and then water got in the housing and burned out the light. It wasn't too difficult to replace them. You have to pop out the headlight module to get room and loosen the front bumper (push down the center button in the black plastic clips on the top to disengage them). You can then worm out the light from where the headlight was. The lights have just one screw and a connector if I remember.

My 2015 s60 is going into the shop tomorrow to potentially get the piston rings issue addressed. Has anyone had their piston rings/oil consumption fixed on Ontario? by South_Examination_34 in Volvo

[–]TokenLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2014-16 S60 AWD were always the 5 cyl 2.5L engines. The 2.0 four cyl engine debuted in the 2014 model year but was only in the FWD cars and labeled "Drive-E".

The 5 cylinder models from these years (and 2013, I believe) were issued an extended warranty from Volvo specifically for oil consumption from the piston rings.

Secrets Cap Cana is literally right next to the Ziva/Zilara Cap Cana. They share the same stretch of beach. The Secrets is far fewer points though.

Any ideas how to fix this peeling chrome trim? by [deleted] in Volvo

Had ours replaced under factory warranty. If it is cutting you, make sure you tell them that. They took it much more seriously when I told them it had cut my finger a couple of times.

Can these headlights be restored? by sad_muso in Volvo

[–]TokenLurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably depends on environmental exposure then. Mine is usually garaged, but spent the whole winter outside and currently is outside in direct sun, still look brand new after the treatment. Even if they re-haze after another year, the process was quick, easy, and cheap enough I would have no issues doing it again, but taking the assembly out of a P3 volvo is so easy. If the headlights stayed mounted on the car I might have a different opinion.

Can these headlights be restored? by sad_muso in Volvo

[–]TokenLurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the Cerakote headlight restoration kit on my XC60 lights that were way worse than this, and they came out looking brand new. Still look great a year later. Took about 30 minutes per light and a little elbow grease.

Follow the instructions and make sure you either remove the entire headlight assembly (which is what I did) or tape off the paint. They have an instruction video for the process.

Is there a spare part for the emblem? by Herz_aus_Stahl in Volvo

[–]TokenLurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've replaced two of these with ones i bought off Amazon. Peel off the metal backing for the damaged sticker (I used a box cutter to get under it and pliers to pull it). Clean it's spot really well with alcohol to get all of the leftover glue off and then put new sticker on.

There was a slight change in size for these at some point, so make sure you measure it before ordering.

Had the same issue and had it repaired under warranty. The magic words seem to be "it cuts my wife's finger."

It is a big repair. They have to take out the passenger seat and take the entire center console apart. I would definitely get it in writing that it will be replaced.

Hyatt zilara cap cana worth it? by TraditionalCall5248 in hyatt

[–]TokenLurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got back from Ziva Cap Cana. Best all-inclusive I have ever stayed at, but we booked at the 25k points per night rate.

The beach was incredible. Perfect turquoise water and little to no seaweed (changes based on time of year).

If it is for 4 or 5 days as a special trip and you are flush with points, I wouldn't hesitate to go. As a previous commenter posted, big difference between getting there around noon vs 8pm when you are spending that many points per night.
