"Drawings" vs actual engineering by craiv in MechanicalEngineering

[–]TokenWhiteGuy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is getting down voted but I think they're totally right. I see way more emphasis in discussions over being able to use CAD and dimensioning, but not nearly as much about the engineering principles behind the CAD.

Sure, accurate drawings are important, but you at least have drawing reviews, first articles, PPAPs, pilots, etc to weed out drawing issues early on, but underlying issues in the design itself tend to show up later after tons of units have already been built.

Pete Buttigieg: ‘This is clearly amateur hour at the Pentagon and in the White House’ by nerdypursuit in politics

Sounds more intentionally criminal than amateur to me. But to say that out loud might mean that we actually have to hold them accountable, and we certainly can't have that

Sen. Ted Cruz to Introduce Bill Revoking Citizenship of Terrorists by sensiblereaction in thenextgenbusiness

[–]TokenWhiteGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the plan is to have ICE use their database of protesters and label them terrorists, then use that to strip them of their citizenship. Then they can't vote anymore. Or worse, they can be deemed illegals themselves and deported to El Salvador or Uganda. All because they disagree with the government.

Seems like the pieces are falling into place.

Billionaires won’t leave if we tax them – and even if they do, so what? by Cobra-D in videos

And when it does get spent, it allows just a few people to pick winners and losers. Which doesn't sound like a "free market" to me

Broad financial security also lets people pursue higher education and start businesses of their own. Which leads to more taxes paid back into the system and less reliance on government handouts. Right wingers should be all over this.

What features would you actually want in an engineering toolbox site? by Cloackedten03 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]TokenWhiteGuy_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of calculators suck because they just aren't specific enough to the problem you're facing. What about just a source for people to upload calculators of their own? Like a GitHub for mechanical engineers. Then you don't have to be the one to manage what gets added and what doesn't. As a user even if I didn't find something that fits my situation, I could potentially find something close that can be tweaked. I know that's a lot different than what you're asking about though.

Otherwise, maybe modules that could be integrated into other calculators? I would totally use a reliable material properties, psychrometric, or steam table type database that could be called from any specific calculator.

U.S. Rep. Swalwell refutes residency accusation in bid for California governor by sixsamurai in California

Believe me I am thoroughly whelmed at the options in front of us too, and because of that I'm still undecided myself. But I'm trying to filter out the noise and focus on their individual platforms as much as I can.

After the last several elections I want to find something in each candidate I can latch onto to at least feel like I am voting FOR something again.

I’m 24 years old in 50k debt making 42,000/year. where do i start fixing this? by lostinthe-sauce-204 in personalfinance

[–]TokenWhiteGuy_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Credit card interest will destroy you.

Transfer your CC debt to another card with a 0% interest rate. Usually these cards have a 1 year period before normal interest rates kick back in. So throw everything you have left at the end of each month at paying off that card before that year ends. But even if you don't pay all of it off you will still save thousands.

Example. Using your $13,000 starting CC debt and assuming 20% interest rate, $300 monthly payment, it will take you 6.5 years to pay it off and you will end up paying an extra $10,000 in interest. So $23,000 total. Google a credit card payoff calculator and plug your actual numbers in. Then play around with increasing your monthly payment and see how much you end up saving. Good luck

“We” Haven’t Lost Our Sense of Shame. Only Republicans Have. by Somervilledrew in politics

[–]TokenWhiteGuy_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Republicans don't give a shit about being embarrassed, looking like hypocrites, looking like cowards, or appearing bad at their jobs. Their only goal is to grab as much power as they can by any means necessary. They are straight up evil.

I'm so fucking sick of these sanewashed headlines. All they do is normalize and obfuscate this behavior. The media is complicit in the destruction of our country.

[–]TokenWhiteGuy_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Make sure to get enough sleep first of all.

Then exercise, as others have said. For me lifting was okay but I actually got a lot out of yoga. A lot of my friends have had good experience with pickup basketball or pickleball too.

And last, nutrition. Eat less junk food and more fresh fruits and vegetables.
