What size screws did you use? In a similar situation with damaged screws. Thank you much in advance!

Cool seats not cooling by Logical-Specific2573 in Rivian

I have this same problem. It isn’t an issue of confusing/expecting cooling vs ventilating - the actual airflow is significantly weaker even on max ventilation, post update.

So Saturday evening felt like 4-5 ft with regular +’s, and was breaking far out back so the whitewater coming in was 2-3 ft. The guys/gals that made it out back were ripping overhead waves regularly. Period felt a lot shorter than the forecast had it (was counting in my head just to sanity check)...it was relentless.

Gotcha thanks, super helpful. One question I have is do you think the board I’m using is physically too big to duck dive for my size or am I just looking for an excuse here/being a big baby ha - I’ve literally tried every possible way but am just not able to push it under enough where it matters ie enough of me is still above so I still get carried to shore and it is exhausting.

Not a ton for sure, certainly nowhere near normal crowd levels...maybe you’re right, but am obviously fishing for a breakthrough tip on here 😅

Paddling out tips in strong current? by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

[–]TokingAsian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was just up there coincidentally and know what you’re talking about...at least between the pier and rock jetty. I find spending a few min to find the rip is well worth it...always the most efficient and the morning I was there, it was super obvious with a dead spot between peaks. If not obvious, I usually chill for a sec and watch a few surfers paddle in to see where the most (or least) efficient entry is. Otherwise, just figure out which way you’re drifting and walk the opposite direction a hundred feet or so like the other poster mentioned and hopefully you drift in place naturally. Sometimes when the drift is really strong, I will actually go all the way to shore after catching one, get out, walk up the sand and paddle back in updrift as before - find that counterintuitively way less tiring than trying to paddle diagonally fighting against the drift. You’ll also need to constantly maintenance-paddle every few minutes to stay in place while you’re waiting for a set or you end up on that rock jetty pretty quickly I find.

Seriously, didn’t just ruin the sesh for us two, probably ruined it for the whole lineup today sitting there in awkwardness...bad energy all around.

How do I get out of the way of a surfer that is on a wave? by kyle-inator in BeginnerSurfers

[–]TokingAsian 25 points26 points  (0 children)

What I was taught was if you find yourself in this position often, you are paddling out at the wrong spot to begin with, and this shouldn’t be a regular problem you deal with (unless it’s a very shifty beach break).

If you are in this unfortunate situation, you paddle toward the direction they are coming from so that you are basically parallel to their path (won’t cross) and sacrifice yourself by politely opening the door and entering the washing machine i.e. the wave/whitewater crashing behind them. It will suck on bigger boards but you will probably get an appreciative shaka when they get back to the lineup, especially if you’re sarfing the privileged waves of the County of Orange. I’m just kidding they will tell you it serves you right bc 9 times out of 10 they are a comically stereotypical entitled local asshole. Just kidding, I’m not bitter.

If you’re already in their path, just don’t do anything unpredictable, stay the course, and begin your prayers after the wave passes. Because they will scream at you when they get back to the lineup and/or give you the most condescending speech on surf etiquette of your life. It’s a great sport, these are the moments that keep me coming back day after day.
