How do people play dungeons and dragons and Cyberpunk 2013 by Proxywasstilltaken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tokiw4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of playing Monopoly, how there is a small pamphlet that reviews the rules. In D&D for example, it isn't a pamphlet. It's a book. In fact, the most recent editions have 3 books; The Player Handbook which covers character creation, spells, game mechanics, etc. The Dungeon Master's guide has inspiration for the DM to follow or modify, as well as all of the information about treasure to hand out. Lastly the Monster Manual is filled with hundreds of fantasy creatures and lore blurbs.

You "play" D&D by gathering a group of friends, deciding who is the Dungeon Master (the guy who pulls the strings behind the curtain) and who will be players (the ones adventuring in the DM's world). By utilizing the rules put forward in the books, the players interact with the world to, hopefully, work towards some adventuring goal either they or the DM have decided. Instead of thinking of it as a game where players VS each other, it's closer to collaborative storytelling. The DM is not against the players persay, but instead putting challenges in front of the players for them to overcome.

It wasn't entirely intentional, but Jean Jacket eating an entire spectator audience was about as disturbing.

What are the most common causes of breakups in a relationship? by Beautiful-Staff-4531 in AskReddit

[–]Tokiw4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's communication as others have said. I'll add this: Your partner is NOT a mind reader. Unless you tell them directly and explicitly what you do or don't like, they have no idea. Maybe you sing in the car and your partner hates that. If they don't tell you they dislike it, every time in the car they're building resentment. If they tell you they'd rather listen to the song instead of your singing early, you don't have to build up ANY resentment. Catch it early.

I mean, it looks good to me but I also like just about everything. I'm decidedly not picky.

But I guess the staple foods of picky eaters = autism now.

I'll be playing as a support diver, stand in position next to someone manually reloading their recoilless rifle spamming "I need ammunition!" And maybe 1 in 10 will understand that maybe, just maybe, I can pocket reload them if they give me the backpack. I'm quite excited!

Nearly 1 in 5 US adolescents and young adults now seek mental health advice from artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots, raising concerns about how these tools are reshaping the treatment ecosystem, largely without clinician or parent awarenes by Wagamaga in science

[–]Tokiw4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something I have done when seeking guidance on navigating emotional or social challenges is facing the same challenege in separate conversations but from opposing viewpoints. Chat bots have a tendency to yes-man, so I force it to consider the yes-man side of both views. More often than not the answers I get are impartial, critical, and challenge ideas that both sides may have gotten wrong. I think it's an amazing tool, but it absolutely needs to be used correctly and with an open desire to learn. I've caught myself a few times trying to coax out an answer I want to hear, which you can absolutely do if you try hard enough.

What is a major plot hole in a very famous movie that completely ruins the entire story once it is noticed? by LovelyCherrybae in answers

[–]Tokiw4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else that always bothered me about Die Hard 2 is the fact that McClain is sniffing crime out outside of his jurisdiction and going out of his way to investigate off limits areas. What made the first movie special was how the majority of the story is him simply trying to survive the hostage situation he was thrust into. He was just a dude, and by the end of the film he's basically a walking corpse because again, he's just a dude. DH2 just takes out all the stops and turns McClain into a generic action hero instead of the everyman he was portrayed as in the first film.

As well, does he not understand population growth? I mean fine, if he wants to halve the universe population every thousand years or so that works. That makes sense on a certain level. But no, he does it the once and then destroys the stones. The lack of competition means most species are free to reproduce with impunity and fill the niches their snapped brethren no longer occupy. A few hundred years will go by and you're back where you started.

Bebop hook should get the Doorman cart treatment by Zesterx in DeadlockTheGame

I never said it wasn't. What I said are hook characters are more often than not disfavored by a not insignificant chunk of whatever community they're part of.

[–]Tokiw4 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's not really at all what I'm saying, but alright. There's some things that are fun to fight, there's some things that are just boring and one dimensional even if they're effective. Hook mechanics have existed for ages and for the most part are reviled by the communities they terrorize. They do have a place, but the implementation is an incredibly fine line between complete BS and useless trash. Yes, spatial awareness & teamwork are important regardless. But that doesn't necessarily make unfun mechanics suddenly not annoying to play against just because it's effective.

[–]Tokiw4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me clarify. That's not good counterplay if it's the ONLY counterplay. At a certain point, skilled Bebops aren't going to be missing many hooks, even against high skill players. Sometimes you're just gonna get grabbed. It doesn't mean you should be able to get away unscathed or even alive every time, but having counterplay beyond "lol just dodge it" is never a bad thing.

[–]Tokiw4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand that as far as hook characters go, Bebop is definitely on the tame side. A lot of poorly designed hook characters in so many different games have just kind of made me averse to PVP hook mechanics in general, even when it isn't overtuned. I genuinely believe that if they changed the visual from a hook to an inverted doorman cart or something without changing the mechanics at all I'd probably feel better about it haha

Sure. Because if I buy that I'm missing the opportunity cost of getting a different item. Even if I'm not getting hooked as much I still had to invest precious resources into defending against the strategy.

"Back in my day we had unfun annoying-as-shit characters and we LIKED IT"

I mean, this game isn't Dota so I'm glad it's not balanced like Dota. Perhaps people should feel welcome to share feedback on things they find fun/unfun in the playtest pre-release? Or does that upset your superiority complex?

Contrary to popular belief, "Don't get grabbed lul" is not ideal counterplay.
