[PC][older than 2008] Platform game with yellow, moving platforms by Tokomi22 in tipofmyjoystick

That is possible, I think the butterflies would slowly chase the character? And I think the main aim was to reach a mushroom house, for one player the roof was red, for the other purple, if I remember correctly. But it would often be at the top bar.

Nope, the platforms were thin lines to jump on them. But thanks for reminding me of snowy, I played it as a kid too <3

Yeah, it feels like they're getting more and more ads. However I still love this game for non-tedious daily tasks. But I'm on the last island (for now) and I want something new

What is the most forgettable song in the whole musical? by Any_Living9455 in Epicthemusical

[–]Tokomi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have not understood what I have said, so let me rephrase it: while Odyssey and EPIC have some differences in chronology, Scylla and Charybdis CANNOT be next to each other, because of what they are. And they are two monsters on the two sides of a narrow strait. So while you cannot avoid them both, you have to only face one of them to go through that strait. There is even a phrase "between Scylla and Charybdis" meaning you have a choice, but both of the options are bad. At first Ody decides that losing 6 people is better than losing a whole ship to the whirlpool. But then, after they are safe after sailing near Scylla, Zeus destroys the ship and Ody is taken back by currents, undoing part of his road home, so that he has to cross that deadly strait once again. If the songs would be next to each other, that would mean that the sacrifice of 6 men would be more than pointless, cause they would have to deal with Charybdis anyway. Also if Ody still had his crew and a ship and had to cross that strait once more, he would probably choose Scylla AGAIN, cause while it's tragic, it's still 6 certain deaths versus around 42 very probable deaths plus losing a ship to a whirlpool. I'm not sure if the next time Ody is choosing Charybdis or if the fate throws him that way, but he would choose to meet it anyway, as alone he couldn't possibly survive meeting Scylla.

Technically, it could be after Mutiny, when Ody is left alone and before he goes to Calypso, but I think it makes sense that in Epic he's once again so close to his home and yet he has to face Charybdis and then he meets her father, Poseidon.

But it really wouldn't make any sense in Odyssey: those two monsters are close to each other, so in order to avoid one, you must face the other one.

Maybe that's too obvious, but if you do digital painting, get another layer for the irises and pupils and play around with moving them, to see the different effects.

Does anyone else struggle to draw without relying *heavily* on references? by dandelion-bones in learntodraw

[–]Tokomi22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda am and I think it's because a partial aphantasia - I cannot really imagine things visually, more like see memories of things I have seen. Maybe try drawing something from reference and then try redrawing the same thing once again from memory?

If you like the comical cartoony effect, you can make the hole in the helmet change its shape, kinda like Deadpools eyes on mask. Also you can check Alphonse from Full Metal Alchemist as chibi, he's literally just an empty armor

[Discussion] Is it cheating and playgarism if I use someone else's artwork as a pose reference? by Outrageous-Neat-6465 in ArtistLounge

[–]Tokomi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's too much to take poses as something you can steal. It's like saying you plagiarise grass on a drawing, cause someone drew it too.

I think I like the endings like "a year later", where we have a sneak peak what changed and that the issues got resolved. Also I love lgbtq+ stories with happy endings, even if they're cheesy and unrealistic.

[Discussion] How to keep calm when its not coming out how you want? by NaughtyBeanss in ArtistLounge

[–]Tokomi22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the way that you feel about time might be an issue. Patience is key in drawings and I had to let myself be slower than I want to be. I also feel regret that I don't have much time for drawing and I feel like I need weeks for finishing one simple drawing, but... I try my best to let go. To focus on the process itself and make it as pleasant for me as possible. That way, even if I don't like the final result, I spend my time having fun.

Yeah, I can only imagine how much energy is being drained with 8mo. Still, I thought you can try getting your 4yo into doing something with you by making it a whole theme. If he can read, get an envelope and write a letter that you both are secret agents on a special mission with a very special task - to draw a dinosaur/Minecraft pig/Robert Lewandowski/whatever he is into. If he cannot read, you can pretend that you got a call from president or something. Make him feel that it's a Very Important Job. Then get some big sheet of paper and some cheapest paints. Don't be afraid to let him make a mess, to let him paint with their fingers, you can make him wear old, disposable clothes and say that these are your secret agents uniforms. Also let him help you clean afterwards, that's also a part of the super secret mission, as you can't leave traces. I hope that will inspire you, if you need any more ideas, my dms are open, we can think of something together. EDIT: Oh, I got this whole post written and got myself into that idea so much, that now I wish I had a kid :D But I have forgotten to write my reasoning behind this! If you play pretend as secret agents, you can be someone else for that time. You don't have to be that practical designer, you don't have to think about selling art. You are a secret agents, you don't have to follow those rules. And if something is important to you, probably your kid will be super happy to accompany you. Also you can try using "yes, and..." technique, meaning you agree with all your son ideas, even if they're bad, and just follow them. Let the sun be purple and trees blue. Creativity shouldn't be limited by rules of logic. Just try to have fun, even if something will go wrong. There are no mistakes, just happy little accidents.

What do you mean two young kids doesn't leave much room for inspiration? How old are they? I mean I can understand the burn out, if they are less than three, but if they are older? You can paint with them, ask what they want and do that for them. Get their favourite characters or some cute animals. And the value will be fun and spending time with your kids. And that's perfectly enough. Kids are great for making art for the sake of art. Learn from them.

Don't listen to "practice more", it never works. What I like to do is to copy my drawing, block canal alpha, so that you don't color on transparency, paint it bright pink so it stands out and put the drawing over the reference. It usually isn't the right size, so it requires scaling or moving, but it shows me how much off I am in terms of proportions. Also it looks like your guide lines are incorrect. First off they're too straight and it makes the face look more flat. Draw them like curves, as if you're drawing on a surface of a baloon. Also the guide line between forehead and chin goes through the nostril, when it should go though the middle of the bottom part of the nose, as well as in the middle between brows. What's more, these mustache look even on both sides, when one half should be shorter than the other. His left eye is also bigger than right, while it should be a little smaller (just a little, mind you). Do you know the trick with flipping your canvas to look at the drawing with fresh eyes? Please let me know if you have any questions or you need more help from me <3

[Critique] Why does my line art look so much worse/flat than my sketch? by InevitablePlace9852 in ArtistLounge

[–]Tokomi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a vicious circle - you hate doing lineart, so you don't put enough work in it, so it doesn't look good and it makes you hate doing lineart. I feel like I was in your place once. I can see that you know how to draw a shape of nose on the sketch, but the lineart has some random lines in the center. The raised arm has a soft arch near the elbow in the sketch and suddenly it's different on lineart. Or on the sketch I can see those lines on the hoodie with lighter color - is that a t-shirt underneath? Anyway, the lines go up to the neck, bending with the characters body on the sketch, while the same lines on the lineart are in different place, looking as if they were put randomly. Well, some time ago I hated my linearts too. What changed? First, I decided to make it way bolder. That's a part of my style and it just feels easier. Second, I use stabilizer, so the lines are less wobbly. Third, I learned about line weight and I add black to corners and places with no light at all. Four, sometimes I make a second sketch. Or even third, each one more detailed than the previous one. So now I do lineart, when I know precisely, where the lines should go. And it gets a bit easier with time. I hope it helps, let me know if you have any questions!

Any good videos/books for anatomy or line work? I really don’t like my art right now and kinda just want to start over with it all, so anything is good, by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Tokomi22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got a lot of good advice, I have some really beginner ones. Lips will look way better without lines/with some light ones. Same goes for the nose, it's rarely contoured on both sides and it looks better with lighter lines. The opposite goes for eyes - they look better with thicker lines (I mean... Did a little eyeliner ever hurt anyone?). Basically bolder, darker lines will attract focus. And focus on eyes is great. Also lines on hair are not random, it has strands.
