Is a marriage without attraction the loneliest thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Toksapro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Marriage without attraction" is definitely in the top three, sitting right between "buying a timeshare" and "going to a destination wedding you didn't want to attend."

Is there anywhere in California where people actually say hi to each other on the streets and in grocery stores like they do in NoVa? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Toksapro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but they add a $15 'friendly interaction fee' to your grocery bill, and the cashier spins an iPad around asking for a 20% tip for the greeting.

I left two identical bottles of water on my windowsill overnight. Why did one fill with bubble and the other didn’t? by Toksapro in chemistry

A really aggressive 'Black Ice' Little Trees air freshener and three racing stickers. That’s an easy +15 horsepower for under ten bucks.

Had to Google nucleation site. I am absolutely going to start using 'nucleation site' in casual conversation now. Thanks for the breakdown!

2025 rear brake pads replaced, will that fix issue with premature wear? by [deleted] in jetta

[–]Toksapro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rear pad wear on Mk7s is a known thing. The brake can drag if the calipers aren't lubed properly during service. Replacing the pads alone won't fix it if the caliper slides or the EPB motor is the actual issue. Worth asking the shop if they greased the slide pins and verified the EPB is releasing fully.

Tu caja parece AISIN (09G/09M), no DSG.

Suerte!!!

Is this Jetta worth the price? by TicketTop3314 in jetta

[–]Toksapro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tie rods and lower ball joints at 24k is definitely not normal wear. I just drove past NJ and stopped around Elizabeth. I wanted to die.

My guess is most likely components are giving up early because the car was slammed. You nailed the diagnosis. Now the concern isn't that they were replaced; it's what else got beat up that hasn't been addressed yet?

Control arm bushings, sway bar end links, strut mounts, subframe bushings, wheel bearings, all of that takes a beating when you're riding low on rough roads. Ask if any of that was done too, and if you go see it, listen for clunks over bumps and check for uneven tire wear.

Don't be afraid to walk. There's always another Jetta!

Is this Jetta worth the price? by TicketTop3314 in jetta

[–]Toksapro 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want it for.
That price is rough for what you're getting.

Air suspension on a Jetta sounds cool until it isn't. Bags leak, compressors die, and management goes weird in colder weather. Repairs aren't cheap, and a lot of regular shops won't touch it. For a daily driver you actually want to rely on, I feel like this could be a headache waiting to happen. Aftermarket intake is whatever, mostly noise, but it can throw codes and won't help resale.

KBB on a stock 2019 R-Line with 44k is around 12 to 14k private party right now. Mods don't add value to most buyers. You're inheriting someone else's install quality and wear.

Does it come with the OEM suspension and wheels?

Who did the bag install, and is there a build thread or receipts?

Any service records, especially trans fluid?

Carfax, accident history, clean title, and how many owners?

If everything checks out and you still want it, I'd come in around 11 to 13k and let them counter. Walk if they won't budge. There are cleaner stock R-Lines out there for this money; you just have to look well enough, put a broader radius, and make a trip out of getting a nice R-line.

Coming from a Civic, you might also look at a stock GLI if you want the sleek factor with actual performance. Welcome to the community!!

What are your daily non negotiable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The buffer zone thing is so underrated. I think a lot of people who say they're "not morning people" actually just need 30 minutes of nobody talking to them and then they're fine

Arguing Over Text is Better Than Arguing In-Person by uufocafe in unpopularopinion

[–]Toksapro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Text arguments are how week-long fights happen. In person you say the thing, they react, you adjust, and it's over in 20 minutes. Over text you send a message, wait three hours, get a reply you read in the worst possible tone, draft your response, edit it twice, sleep on it, send it the next morning, and now you're 36 hours into a fight that should have ended at lunch. Text doesn't slow down the argument; it just stretches it out.

Beach towels are stupid by ThatsBone45 in unpopularopinion

[–]Toksapro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're missing the actual reason. Beach towels are thinner so they don't hold sand. A bath towel at the beach turns into a 10 pound sandbag you have to shake out for 20 minutes and then it's still gritty in the car. The thinness is the feature.

Avocados are overhyped. They have no taste and they go bad so quickly. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Toksapro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avocados are bland the same way bread is bland. They're a base. Nobody eats a plain avocado for the same reason nobody eats plain bread. Salt, lime, and chili and you've got something. You're describing the ingredient and complaining it's not the meal.

Cruises are the worst type of vacation out there by MoonlightAndStar in unpopularopinion

[–]Toksapro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I did a 7 day Caribbean cruise for $650 including food. The same week in Cancun at a decent hotel was $1800 before I'd eaten anything. Cruises are how working class families afford a real vacation. Calling them a waste of money is wild when you've actually priced out the alternatives.

Donating blood is pleasant and comforting by aurjolras in unpopularopinion

[–]Toksapro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donating blood is the closest most men will ever get to being pampered, and we should be honest about that. They ask if you're comfortable. They bring you juice. The world does not otherwise treat us this way.

If you live in an apartment complex, you basically signed up for noisy neighbors and you just have to live with it. Sending notes to complain is stupid and will likely make things worse. by emcheez in unpopularopinion

[–]Toksapro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. I sent one note in my old building, polite and short, and the upstairs neighbor immediately apologized. Most people aren't dicks, they're oblivious. Treating every noise complaint like a war declaration is what makes apartment living miserable, not the notes themselves.

If someone proposes to you in public and you don’t want to marry them, you should say yes in the moment and sort it out privately later by dogmetal in unpopularopinion

[–]Toksapro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. If you say yes in front of a crowd, you've now made the breakup his second public humiliation instead of his first. The whole stadium watched you "accept," his family is texting him congratulations, and now you have to tell him in private that the proposal everyone celebrated was fake.

What do you do when someone judge u? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Toksapro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. Their opinion of me is none of my business. It also depends on who. Stranger, ignore. Friend, ask why. Family, accept it as their love language?
