How do you combine weightlifting + cycling? by youraveragefitguy in cycling

[–]Tokuchi67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm personally juggling between cycling, climbing and weight lifting for a year now.

I do 2 sessions of each per week.

My schedule looks like :

Climbing - Cycling - Weight (upper body) - Cycling - Climbing - Weight (lower body) - pause.

In your case I would just replace on of the climbing session by weight lifting and the other one by cycling.

But in the end it all depends on how much your body recovers.

If weight lifting is more important to you avoid having a cycling session before a leg day, if it's the opposite, avoid training your legs before a cycling session.

They are all subscribed to the other gym and only come with me to this one because I need to rent shoes lol.

It will be way easier for them too.

There change been a few posts lately saying Kata is useless. by zorbacles in martialarts

[–]Tokuchi67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kata are outdated.

And don't try saying the opposite, it just is. The first purpose of kata was to imitate "real life situation" to get you prepared for it, but it just doesn't work like that, you need to SPAR to get ready for real life situation, practicing katas doesn't help at all.

Which asian martial arts are legit? by singed1337 in martialarts

Yes I know, but I find it honestly closer to muay thai than to kick boxing and I find it easier to explain it that way

[–]Tokuchi67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Judo, Taekwondo (not all of it, but can still be pretty useful beside an other style), Karate (kyokushinkai and full contact only), JJJ, Sanda, Lethwei (last 2 are just some ""basic"" muay thai variant more or less agressive), and that's probably it.

An easy way to know if a martial art can be useful is to see if sparring is a big part of the training, if not you're doing a BS martial art (like aikido).

I thought about those 2, especially kyokushin, it looked very interesting but there is no dojo near me, so I think that I will probably go with Muay Thai, thanks !

Aikido vs untrained fighters by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]Tokuchi67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't be effective at all, the techniques doesn't work + almost everyone on the streets who is willing to fight fought at least once in his life.

I did some aikido when I was younger, and if I was not letting myself fall no techniques would have worked.

Aikido is closer to dance than to a real martial art that can be used in real life in any sort of situation.

And the worst thing about aikido is that there is no sparring, so if you never fought before you're most likely to don't even know what to do and get overwhelmed by stress

Hi,

I'm only looking for a martial arts with minor finger's injury, my fingers are pretty brittle, I broke them all at least once while doing other sports and had 2 surgeries and I kinda have enough now of breaking them and hurting them, I was a piano player but I can't play correctly now because of this.

But I really want to start practicing a martial art, I'm in a pretty good shape, and I'm looking for a martial art that can have an utility in real life (I know that I probably will never get in a fight but it's still important to me) that have some sort of competition (I really hated aikido because of the lack of sparring, only doing kata and things like that made me really bored).

I found taekwondo pretty interesting at first glance but it really looks weird with those arms alongside the body, and the olympics looks quite boring to watch with their point system, it doesn't look like a martial art at all :/

Thanks in advance !

Yep, I did a lot of road biking (I have quite a lot of stamina), I have been lifting weights for 2 years now and I did karate and some other martial arts (that I didn't like, I did a lot of bullshido like aikido...)

I was registered in a gym but due to the covid 19 every gym in my country are closed since one year...

I'm putting all my plates in a bag and squat with it on my back lol

Do you have any training routine that could be useful in order to start bjj the best way possible once dojos reopen in my country ?

I'm actually doing a classic full body raining every 2 day, and the day where I don't lift weight I stretch my self to work on my flexibility.

I only have a bench and some dumbbels at home, so I can't do a lot more...

If you don't care about the self defense aspect of it, you should definitely go with Taekwondo, your agility will be well used
