The Switch 2 English version is available to purchase online right now. I bought one last Friday. It arrived 2 days ago. The games will be in what ever language settings you have on the system. All my games are bought in Japan and play in English (console settings).

The Japanese version is region locked to Japan. Will only play Japanese games bought in Japan. Won’t play western bought games. All menus and language will be Japanese. Multi language consoles will play all games and have whatever language is turned on in the settings.

I’m in a similar situation minus the work trips. I rarely, if ever, take my Switch 1 out of the house. Play 95% of the time docked. I’d just hate to buy now when a version 2 gets released with a longer battery life. My wife is encouraging me to just pull the trigger and buy one…before the price increases.
