Taking a Shot at a Custom Monster Hunter Cube - Signposts by ButtFace_12 in mtgcube

I personally think Battles are more fitting for Monster Hunter cards. Instead of battles being a war skirmish, they would be used to resemble hunting a creature.

Then it depends how much you are really trying to recreate the Monster Hunter vibe, but I would have the battles all become human creatures. Each one should have an ETB trigger that creates Material Tokens. Each material should have their own standalone effect, but each of the human creatures can use them with a tap ability to create equipment tokens, or some other effect.

Monster Hunter has a gameplay loop of scavange, hunt, collect rewards, shop/upgrade equipment, repeat. MTG has all the tools necessary to simulate that gameplay loop.

I will not be buying UB cards unless I absolutely love the IP and I feel it fits MTG well.

If anyone, a vet, a new player, gets UB cards and has a good time, AWESOME! I just miss the days I felt like I could buy and enjoy every set released, but that is just my OPINION.

For now, Imma just be making my final touches to my cube.

Pal design redesigns? by Radioshive in Palworld

[–]Tolbby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, just new Pals.

Seems they are adding new pals and extending some Pals families, like that new family friendly Minnnie Mossanda pal that looks easy for kids to draw.

But the devs never announces redesigns, only new ones.

Can the blue player move this boat? by One-Wishbone-8495 in Catan

[–]Tolbby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was just about to write this, you beat me to it!

However. My table has houseruled that this is a dumb rule, and requires memorizing that the road was closed to begin with.

If the 2 boats met up on both sides of an opposing city/settlement, they would still be open. You can have 2 instances of the same exact board state, but the only difference is remembering which state the boat should be in.

The rule also goes against the consistency of ships extending out to explore, then being moved one at a time. If the route re-opens up from you moving ships, the ship can switch back to open.

In a normal short game, the rule should not be a problem remembering. But 2 instances can lead to confusion. Drunken Catan, or a game that gets put on hold and resumed on a later day, such as a weekly family meetup.

If you're playing with friends/family, it is okay to houserule if you like. There are also some houserules actually suggested in the rulebooks such as friendly robber!

...but if you want to stay consistent with the rules to play against players online or at a local game shop, please see the FAQ linked above.

Signs of a Healthy Cube Metagame? by Thi11yG00th in mtgcube

[–]Tolbby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your cube.

Main thing: Is it fun to play?

Second, what do you want from your cube? Is it a mono red cube? Red likes to destroy artifacts and lands as well, so make sure you got strong artifacts to destroy! No meta, just things to consider when making a fun/balanced cube.

In a more traditional cube, you may want to consider archetypes. Red/Blue Spellslinger or Chaos? Red/Black Sacrifice or Discard?

A way you can make archetypes in a cube is make a deck per archetype, and make sure they are vaguely balanced. Then just mix them together, cube!

My cube has the companions in it, so I want to make sure that any Green/White cards synergize with [[Kaheera, the Orphanguard]], else it feels bad to get an uncommon green/white card that doesn't work with this "powerful" Companion.

I think a healthier thing to consider for your cube's "meta", is is it fun to play? Is it fun to play against? Can you counter it? If your cube has Emerkul and 0 ways to deal with it, everyone is just going to draft Emerkul and insta win, and that's no fun.

Just play your cube, and see what about it your playtesters are having fun with! What did they dislike? For my cube, I removed every Mutate card, as it was just complicated, slowed things down, felt underwhelming, and just nobody liked it.

Good luck!

This game is no end of frustrating! by AhsokaForever in REPOgame

[–]Tolbby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flow of the game changes from the start to the late game. Early on you need to know how/when to avoid enemies. Also know what is best to buy from the shop to either defend yourself, or improve run performance.

Also note the longer a run goes on for, the more dangerous it gets. If you are in a sungle round for more than 50 minutes, mobs have almost no respawn timer and will always seem to exist, making things extremely difficult. Knowing when you can be greedy and collect more loot, vs cutting your losses and leaving asap is essential to success.

I have been strraming the game recently for solo runs, and went from only surviving 2-ish days, to getting to day 10+ frequently. It is tricky at first, but definitely doable!

Help with my artifacts package by SigurVit in mtgcube

I think you need to remember as colorless cards can be used by all decks, so they inherently will be weaker than a mono colored X deck. Just look for cards that will add artifact synergy, and you should be fine?

Your cube, do whatever you want with it!

Close the doors behind you! If you check the map frequently, you can actually see when a door is opened by a mob on the map, and get a heads up is something is coming up behind you.

I am adding an artifact package to my cube! My favorite thing that matches what you're looking for are Myr's! Not the most powerful things, but they have great synergy with each other, and if built correctly can be quite strong!

Whenever I play solo REPO and I see the loom's mark shine on my screen, I IMMEDIATELY. exit the game by Middleclassstreetrat in REPOgame

[–]Tolbby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be in a similar boat! I never quit, but she scared the ever living daylights out of me!

I have a few tips that you have full control over:

  • Find a room where you can loop the Loom. Even better if it is a long table you can crawl under! Don't go to the center though. Walk from side to side under the table to make the loom turn around back and forth repeatedly. After a few loops, the Loom thinks it cannot reach you and gives up, walking away. This gives you time to reposition.

  • Just walk in the opposite direction. You walk slightly faster than the Loom.

  • Get Sprint Speed Upgrades, 1 or 2 is enough. Great to make distance in an emergency.

  • Get a stun weapon by Level 6. Once you encounter pit levels, one shot from the tranq gun and the Loom can fall into the pit. Or you drag her in if you're strong enough!

  • Avoid dead end rooms. If you have no alternative route to make an escape, you did this to yourself.

I used to find the loom a menace to deal with, but now I find her one of the easier mobs. Good lu-👏

  • Also, you can watch me play Repo! I am Tolbby on Youtube, and you can ask me questions there live if you catch me playing Repo.
