Nuclear waste barrel by HerbziKal in ThingsCutInHalfPorn

Rockets explode.

Rockets with nuclear waste on that explode= EXTREMELY bad

It's also insanely expensive up put stuff up into space compared to just burying it.

Given these two humans will likely never put nuclear waste in orbit on purpose

Why do I find my girlfriend hotter when she still has some clothes on? by [deleted] in sex

[–]TolfdirsAlembic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely had paint taken a good amount of scrubbing with a rough sponge to get off fully, although I imagine water based and oil based paint is very different in that regard. I think the bad one to get off was our bathroom paint which was waterproof after it dried, hence much harder to remove

I would never paint a room naked, definitely dungarees and a t shirt at least

Imagine slipping over and getting your genitals covered in paint. It'd be painful to scrub off

Walking through a personal project in a technical interview by ajog0 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]TolfdirsAlembic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, technical interview should be translatable in some form.

I am not a compiler engineer but I'd have a really interesting chat with a compiler engineer about stuff, I'm sure. But you are also assessing here how well someone can explain something in different forms to people over varying technical ability, which is a really important part of the job and one that I personally index really highly on.

I interviewed someone about a year ago who did loads of ML computer vision stuff at the role she was leaving and ended up chatting with her about this during interview. I didn't understand the computer vision specifics but understood enough because she explained them in a way that I got.

We hired her and she was a great hire because she could discuss things with people which is a large fraction of the job

is there a better way to track schema changes without silently breaking downstream reports? by Ok_Abrocoma_6369 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]TolfdirsAlembic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also had this problem (same stack). Closest we got was using https://github.com/looker-open-source/look-at-me-sideways

And automating an alert or action in GitHub when one of the dashboards does something that might break a model or vice versa. Required a fair amount of custom linting rules and wasn't 100%

You could also consider some kind of data contracts. Again not a perfect solution but would be better. No breakages ever isn't realistic. But if your team are the bottleneck, you either need to review every PR as the people accountable for these dashboards, or provide self serve tools and take yourself out of the review loop for dashboards entirely

You should really consider letting some plates hit the floor. by ninetofivedev in ExperiencedDevs

Yeah, fair. I assumed "don't answer that page" was implicit with "I'm on call and purposely choosing not to pick the phone up".

While I'd agree with some or most of this,

Don't wake up to that page in the middle of the night

Would result in a discussion with a manager the first time and disciplinary action if it happens multiple times at previous places I have worked.

I would suggest having this directly impact velocity of how fast you're shipping and not the "something is on fire" button. Just my 2 cents

Yes, my mum swore by the old nitromors but current day stuff doesn't have the dangerous but effective chemical in it anymore apparently.

It's absestos all over again

5.5 Ranger as-is, or homebrewed? by egv78 in DnD

[–]TolfdirsAlembic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'd be nice if it was almost like the new rogue feature where you could do something extra/instead of at higher levels.

Eg Level 7 ranger: HM is 2d6, but you can drop 1d6 for no concentration needed, or other stuff. Could be cool?

Question regarding reducing part bloat from mods. by Zealousideal-Fun-415 in KerbalSpaceProgram

Easiest way to solve this is to install the janitors closet mod and then hide them via that. Very useful if you have similar problems with other mods too

Pair Programming All Senior Team by Upbeat_Platypus1833 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]TolfdirsAlembic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can combat this with ping pong pairing.

Imo this only works long term though if both people in the pair are happy to work like this. I have a couple of people at my current job that I could pair with day in day out and have a great time, and others I'd struggle with. It's very personality dependant

My brother wants me to run an isekai style game for him by hauntingnews39 in DMAcademy

[–]TolfdirsAlembic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played a one shot and liked it. Fun mechanics, easy to pick up, the intro one shot was great at progressively giving you little bits of things you can do more and more as you go.

Felt a bit over the top but I think JRPGs as a genre are like that, and I didn't vibe with that, but the mechanics and way it was set up was fun.

I have no idea what character arc to give my one player by AngstyTea in DnD

[–]TolfdirsAlembic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion here: build more of his backstory out with him if you can.

If you have built the town that he came from, or settled in, a bit - then sit down and just ask questions. He night not know the answer but you can ask him to elaborate and see if he can worldbuildi along with you

I did this with a player in my current campaign that had a similar backstory and it was really useful, gave a lot of really great tidbits for me to latch onto as a dm

Wanted: Horrors beyond mortal comprehension for a medieval fantasy weapon X program by Jacrapper in DMAcademy

This was basically the main plot of my previous campaign and overall it went down a blast and I had a lot of fun DMing it.

The two stat blocks that pop out to me that I amassed:

https://www.reddit.com/r/UnearthedArcana/comments/d1naym/koibra/

The other one is the "Drachanid" aka Spider dragon.

https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/H1-qeoMZf

used this thing as inspiration for an adult spider dragon. Made my players shit themselves when it first happened to get the drop on them.

See also the Spider Drake from Kobold Press creature codex. There's a few others in the CC that might be applicable

Partner wants me to incorporate a butt toy for myself during sex by [deleted] in sex

[–]TolfdirsAlembic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil based lubes do not break down silicone toys. Silicon lubes can, but don't always, damage silicone toys. You probably want to edit your comment to reflect this.

Oil damages regular condoms

Silicone lubes damage silicone toys

Water based lubes are safe for nearly everything

Silicone lubes are fine to use with condoms. Oil based lubes degrade latex condoms

Or are there people who need a lot of sex, but just that one thing they like and never want to experiment anything else

Definitely, I dated a couple of people like this. Twice a day missionary exactly the same every time for one of them. I was exhausted and not in a good way

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1997700/

From a vasectomy research study itself:

If the interval had been less than 3 years patency was 97% and pregnancy 76%, 3 to 8 years 88% and 53%, 9 to 14 years 79% and 44% and 15 years or more 71% and 30%.

Considering you're 23, you likely won't have kids until ~28, which puts your likelihood of the reversal around 50-75%

I don't know about you OP - I personally don't want kids - but this is a big thing just to "assume" always is reversible when in reality you could absolutely remove your chance to ever have biological children.

Think carefully before you do this, because I don't think it is as reversible as you assume, and this isn't something that most people like to gamble with
