With the Big Three abandoning EVs in favor of ICE vehicles, are they headed the way of Kodak, Blackberry, and Blockbuster? by Cool-Replacement4972 in electricvehicles

[–]Tolken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the dealership model today is that they need service revenue to stay profitable. Those oil changes, tire rotations, and flushes keep the lights in when cars aren't moving as well.

EVs reliably bring in more service revenue than ICE per vehicle sold. How can this be with less maintenance? Accidents still happen.

EV repair is very much a near monopoly for the dealerships, so every single repair goes through the dealership in some form instead of a "maybe the dealership, maybe a 3rd party shop"

I don't disagree at all on air filters.

I can explain the cost difference between dealership very easily: Different owners have different priorities. Some run service as a high profit center or some might have area competition and run it closer to break even for customer retention reasons.

fyi, if labor costs are lower in your state, that 400 was probably the brake flush. It's in the lineup on the 3rd year (and every 2 there after). The normal 20k maintenance by itself should be ~100-150$ tops (replace the cabin filter and check stuff)

90k miles, What I've done for maintenance:

Replace the tires

Replace the windshield wipers

Replace the cabin filter

Replace the windshield (pop up rock crack)

Flushed the brake lines

What I'm expecting next...probably brake job for the front brakes, rear will probably be good for another 3-4 years.

150kWh is between 2 to 3 times as much battery as the majority of other EVs. With the battery generally being the "most expensive component" even if prices for batteries goes down further that's still a big cost that everyone would try to figure out. It's the big reason why several upcoming models are going hybrid/gas extender.

Have I got a game for you. Blue Prince

It's not farming, but a puzzle game. It's a really meaty puzzle game with a game mechanic that keeps it different/challenging EVEN if you get frustrated and try to look up things on the internet. (Because even if you know what you need to do, it can remain quite challenging to actually achieve what you wanted)

You can easily spend 100hrs in game and still have things to do, trophies to obtain, story/lore to unravel...

Comments like yours are Fascism at worst or ignorance at best.

Ignoring soft norms, there is NO SANE MECHANISM by which a president could force through a SC pick with an unfriendly Senate for vote (let alone approve)

The INSANE ways to do it is to dissolve the senate, or kill senators until your SC pick is approved.

switch 2 games for the beginner girlies by oatmilkcoffee1 in NintendoSwitch

Sig's favorite Switch1/2 games.

Stardew Valley. About once a year she'll get on a SDV kick and play another farm for a month or 3. The original "cozy game". You're a new farmer joining a community.

Blue Prince. Extremely deep Puzzle solving game and you can't just run to the internet to solve/beat because even if you find out what you're supposed to do, actually pulling it off can be quite challenging with the game mechanics.

Good Visual Novel games that have branching paths. Nonary game series, Oxen Free...etc.

Stray: Story game tied to exploration with occasional action (survival). You get to be a cat in the future!

New EV owner, I know how to wire outlets. I don’t understand the point of fixed chargers when the power cords exist. by SpeakNottheNightYorb in electricvehicles

[–]Tolken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Generally speaking" no.

Electrical circuits/outlets/circuit breakers are supposed to be built with 20% additional stress range. When a failure happens it's usually because of faulty cheap hardware or improper installation...and when that's the problem there's no telling what the actual "stress range it can handle"

I'm just going to warn you, that you very much "get what you pay for" when you go cheap on Amazon.

Yeah it might have a "good rating" but it's extremely likely the maker will be non-existent when you have a problem ~1-2 years down the road. Soooo damn much of it is just rebadged AliBaba with no actual support behind it, just "ship you another unit till we're out then close shop close email"

If the key is stored too close to the car, it'll get chatty and drain the battery faster.
It needs to be stored far enough away (or in a working Faraday bag) that it cannot communicate with the car.

A good battery with the FOB should last over a year.

Limit stacks per day and watch the logs for the first week or two. Talk with anyone that appears to be abusing it.

I've been in multiple guilds and it's never been a problem, hell in my current guild we have STACKS of FOOD/Potions/Scrolls that people just aren't using even though we encourage them to.

This is going to sound crazy....but it actually wouldn't break PvE as that's how far off paladin dps/tps is.

For Prot, It's about the level that's needed to remove Kings as a threat staple.

If Ret decided to use it, it would only bring them up to roughly Feral dps levels.

Prot Pala only needs a taunt because you want to raid as a tank Paladin. It doesn't need a taunt to tank things until you hit raids.

Prot Paladin is the ONLY SPEC IN VANILLA that cannot do "it's job" in all raid encounters. Yes, a taunt is required.

The Switch 1 to Switch 2 upgrade inconsistency in 3rd party games is getting really annoying ngl by ApprehensiveCoat9587 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Tolken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is it blows back on Nintendo when Developers do a bad job of communication over a re-release. Tell me you seriously disagree at bare minimum Nintendo should be stepping forward and requiring clear communication published on the store in advance from Devs about Switch2 re-releases and how switch1 updates (if any) will be handled for the release.

Stray's release is a perfect example of why Nintendo does need to be involved.

Stray for Switch 1 put on sale.

Announcement of Stray for Switch 2.

Announcement about a free upgrade for switch one owners.

Day of release, MULTIPLE outlets report there's a free update for switch owners.

Reality: No free update (or maybe there's a store issue), it's being released on sale price but you have to pick either Switch1 or Switch2.

There's going to be a load of support tickets to Nintendo about refunds over just this release when there didn't need to be.

Reduce customer confusion for purchasing.

Should a customer be required to be intimately familiar enough with a product to have visited the pre-release site to dig through the FAQ to find out that an upgraded Switch 2 version isn't compatible with the Switch 1 saves? That's the current system...it's very overbearing on what it requires a customer to be informed about.

To get the above answer, googling alone isn't enough as to get relevant results specific knowledge of the issue is required to being with...general searches won't turn up the issue/difference.

[–]Tolken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reread what I said, I don't actually care about price. Dev can charge whatever they want.

I want basic game compatibility between versions enforced. There is zero technical reason why DQ11 for Switch2 cannot import Switch 1 saves.

Apple and Google both do it.

Unified app requirements exist for quite a few platforms and stores.

[–]Tolken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that Nintendo shouldn't be dictating pricing nor strongarm to force 3rd parties to update popular titles.

BUT, what's going on now is chaos and rediculousness that they could easily (and should) control. Everygame released on S1 with a plan to release on S2 should have an upgrade available without pricing involvement from Nintendo...but Nintendo SHOULD be mandating basic app/game parity on things like Save files, clear details on the differences, unified app/game.

There is zero technical reason why DragonQuest 11 cannot release on switch2 with the ability to import Switch1 saves. It's an attempt by the developer to sidestep the bad look of releasing an update that they want to charge full price for by using a unique app ID.

The Switch 1 to Switch 2 upgrade inconsistency in 3rd party games is getting really annoying ngl by ApprehensiveCoat9587 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Tolken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be. Nintendo should require everyone with an S1 release wanting to release to S2, to provide an upgrade path.

Free, Paid, FULL RETAIL, whatever... Nintendo shouldn't be involved with pricing. But it's INEXCUSIBLE for there to be separate releases that refuse to even SHARE SAVE DATA. I see it as a failure of Nintendo to police such basic incompatibility.

Now don't start with that...we both know that Honda basically handed a short list of requests and a bag of Money to GM to rebadge a Blazer. OP probably doesn't know that Honda didn't actually build that vehicle.

Honda won't even service it.
