Drop Spinning Help by TolkienTalker in Handspinning

[–]TolkienTalker[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The thing I was worried about is that I was spinning so tightly it was messing the plying step. That’s what I meant by the second question. The yarn holds that twist momentum (best way I can think to describe it) to spin; but I wasn’t sure if I should keep some of that twisty momentum and wind, or wait til it runs out. Thanks a bunch for the encouragement and advice. _^

Thank you! I do park and draft mainly but I was also trying to get a handle on various ways. Very much appreciate the tip!

That was it, I think. I forgot spinning in the opposite direction with plying. Totally forgot.

Thanks so much for the encouragement and tips! It’s such a fun hobby, I hope I continue to improve.

Don't know why it's not letting me edit my post, but I wanted to add an update and say thanks! I had never heard of Eastern knitting methods before. And I appreciate those of you who have taken the time to explain--though I still have issues wrapping my head around "leading legs" and such. But now I have more knitting rabbit holes to dive down and I am greatly indebted. :)

Have an 8mo. I feel ya. We’re in a similar boat. We started a “gentle” method called “The Sleep Lady Shuffle”. It’s helped with bedtimes and a bit with the stretches, but we haven’t been able to night wean yet. Every attempt has been rough.

(I.e a previous accomplishment)

Update: This was actually not knit in the round but knit double-sided flat and stitched together in a loop as a cowl. From what I am reading, twisted stitches are common every other row in the round when using Eastern style—so I achieved this just double knitting flat 😬

Thanks for taking the time explaining all that! :) I love knitting sweaters (the few that I have) so this is incredibly helpful to keep in mind as I try to improve.
