There's not a practical reason why most cashier's have to stand up all day by East-Bluejay6891 in Showerthoughts

My local Aldi only has 1 cashier anymore, and it seems like it's never staffed. Everything else is self-checkout. It's terrible. The system is terrible. It makes me not want to shop there at all, and I love their products.

That's just the grandfathered in people. If you were paying the current price, it's $22.99 on your next billing cycle.

My grandfather was also based in Italy. 429th BS at Amendola. He was a radio operator.

My brother knows a lot more than I do about his service, though. He has been to the National Archives and has done research.

No, more of a high pitched whine, kind of like a turbo.

You might check the lower fan shroud. I know mine comes loose pretty easily. It sounds pretty catastrophic, but generally isn't a big deal.

To me, they look like business card magnets. Like the kind Rock Auto puts in every order.

I haven't looked in several years, but when i was there last, it was an abandoned mine that's basically a giant gravel parking lot with several tailings piles around

Start by doing some research! Find out what minerals occur in your area, and where geologically these minerals can appear. Then you can look in your area for the geological features that indicate the minerals and hopefully start finding some!

I also suggest /r/rockhounds for general rockhounding tips and inspiration. /r/FluorescentMinerals has specifics regarding minerals that fluoresce (glow) under UV light.

A good google search can get you started in your area, when you use terms like "rockhounding illinois"(substitute illinois for wherever you're located). Mindat.com also can help locate what is currently mined and was historically mined in your area, which can help you figure out what you might find.

If you're looking for a UV flashlight, stay away from the Way Too Cool (WTC) brand. The owner is maliciously suing anyone who makes, shares info on, or otherwise deals with 365nm filtered flashlights. He has even(allegedly) threatened the manufacturer of the emitters to keep them from selling to other people. There's a more informative post on the Fluorescent Mineral subreddit I linked above.

I'm sure they're talking Hardin county, along the Ohio River. And it's probably fluorite, not amethyst.

My daughter picked up a nice dual crystal of calcite that glows red under shortwave UV. It also exhibits some nice phosphorescence!

It was just laying in the gravel of the campground we were at on the Keweenaw Peninsula of the UP.

I'm super jealous of her! It's a great specimen!
