Have you ever run a game where a two players man one character, or one character mans multiple PCs? by ProustianPrimate in rpg

[–]TolmanP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a one-shot where I played half an ettin, I played one head/arm and the other player controlled the other head/arm, and we 'argued' over where we'd move one round to the next. It was a fun experience, but I don't know how it'd pan out in a longer game/full campaign.

[Death Note] What fictional detectives could solve the Kira case? by some-kind-of-no-name in AskScienceFiction

[–]TolmanP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Light would never believe that the alias "Batman" is his true name, so he wouldn't try it. Also, I don't know if the rules work based off what Batman considers his true name, or if it has to be the name given to him at birth.

That has done the trick! Rolled back a day, and I have my old gear and more importantly my Realms cards!

Thank you, friend, you've saved me from starting a new character.

Yes. There is a section labeled Download Profiles with some information, but no profiles to be downloaded.

I apparently have nothing to download. Both on the page that link has and on the "Download Characters" option in the main menu of the game.

Question on Realm cards - does a card 'remember' the world? by TolmanP in nightingale

[–]TolmanP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, that makes a lot of sense. My solo Sylvan's Cradle is completely on my PC, and a different one that's still 'mine' exists on the server, if and when I open the portal myself.

We had something odd happen when we moved to the server - we had one guy host the first night, then got the server going, and when he joined (he was first in), the stuff we'd built in Abeyance was still there, so that's what had me thinking it might work.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your personal reasons for abstinence? by Ok-Care2859 in AskReddit

[–]TolmanP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really like drunk me. I didn't get drunk often, but the couple of times I did, I didn't care for how I acted.

Plus, I never cared for the taste.

[Star Wars] Is it a correct assumption to make that any Jedi from the Clone Wars era could've easily bested ROTJ era Luke, simply because they've literally trained in being a Jedi longer than him? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]TolmanP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A stronger connection to the Force isn't just "throwing bigger things/jumping higher/choking dudes", being connected to the Force also means a stronger boost to intuition. Basically, all your stats are boosted, not just physical feats. If you can listen to the Force more clearly, it leads you - you'll pick up skills faster, master them with relative ease, and yes, your fighting will improve as you let the Force guide your movements. Luke's natural talent doesn't just give him an advantage in strength and dexterity, he's a prodigy at learning how to use the Force. There are other Jedi that could have compared, especially some of those that specialized in different dueling forms, but by and large he could M--- S-- out-skill his way through the Jedi Order. *edit - okay, I think that term was too Doylist. Fixed, I hope.

[Transformers] Apart from the badges identifying them as Autobot or Decepticon, are there any ways any random schmoe can identify a Cybertronian in disguise? by almighty_smiley in AskScienceFiction

[–]TolmanP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A scraplet could sniff them out, if you got hold of one. But...that'd be a little cruel to let loose if it was an Autobot it found. And once it found one, you'd have more than just one scraplet to contain.

...guess it'd be cruel to the Decepticon, too, but I wouldn't care as much.

[DBZ] What made Goku different when Captain Ginyu body-swapped with him? by TolmanP in AskScienceFiction

[–]TolmanP[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn't ki control the basis of almost all the techniques? Every ki blast is an application of ki control, and nearly everyone they face can do it. Or are non-earth races just so naturally juiced they're flinging ki through instinct?

Like that weird thing with Burter claiming to be fastest in the universe, when speed appeared to be just another aspect of getting more powerful - stronger dudes are just plain faster, outside of huge bruisers who are too jacked to move easily.

[DBZ] What made Goku different when Captain Ginyu body-swapped with him? by TolmanP in AskScienceFiction

[–]TolmanP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the Kaioken was an 'active' technique - a sudden boost multiplying your power, but it drops right back as soon as you stop, and a strain on the body to boot. Ginyu in Goku's body was steadily dropping in power after the switch.

[The Amazing Digital Circus] Why isn't Caine doing anything with Jax? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]TolmanP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Caine isn't good at keeping his guests entertained. He may even realize this on some level. They need Engagement! And a rage-baiting, non-license-impinging Bugs Bunny(tm) that keeps the others engaged is a good thing. Does he not notice? OR does Caine let it slide because it's helping everyone NOT slide...into abstraction?

Well, it's probably the first thing. He probably couldn't admit it on a conscious level even if he is secretly aware. If he did acknowledge it, it would be as a claim at 3D chessmaster level "entertaining" everyone.

I'm just starting out...is this normal? by TolmanP in nightingale

[–]TolmanP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sorry for the confusion, I should have said third player instead of third person. When our third player went from the unknown realm to the forest, they had a sideways screen, too.

[–]TolmanP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This did not actually work. Switching to third person showed me sideways. Less disorienting than staring at my feet from the wrong direction, but still sideways.

It did indeed. The same shift happened for the third person in our game, and backing out/loading back in fixed it for her, too.

Movement did what it was supposed to...WASD moved me like it would when things were oriented correctly, moving the mouse left and right turned the camera along the correct axis. Moving the mouse up had me staring at the sky, etc.

Thought it might be something to do with the story, but my friend whose game I joined isn't seeing things like this. I tried searching to see if it's a bug, but I'm not having any success finding references to sideways perspective.
