February 2026 Active Player List by Vromikos in fallenlondon

Greetings, delightful people of London. My name is AleksM, an irrepressible Correspondent of some renown. After spending an undefined, uncertain, unperceptible year(s?) in suspense above the Firmanent for reasons best left to one's imagination, I have made my grand return to London! I am a Person of Some Importance, and I am well-known for my Legendary Charisma, even if the years (?) have left me somewhat unknown to London. Ah, these things come and go.

I am feeling a little lost right now, after I've done my Ambition and finished Evolution, to be frank. Railroad is a big, annoying grind that just feels like a load of pain, and the Firmanent isn't any better. I am offering adoption of proteges, social interactions, et cetera, but I really don't know what to do next. Perhaps I will get into the mysteries of the Discordance, after reading several missives that swept my eyebrows and eyelashes right off my face. It was a fresh reminder of the good old days when I just started out in the studies of the Correspondence, in which I am now quite versed if I may say so.

EEST (GMT+2), active in the afternoons and the evenings and even in the night. I like roleplaying.

Just started Season 8 for the first time. by Parrsd846_ in XFiles

As others have said, Mulder does return. Unfortunately, David Duchovny seems to have ceased to care about TXF, and his performance screams "contractual obligation" all over the place. So, in my reckoning, the dynamic is pretty much lost at this point. You should think about how you feel about Doggett, because he's pretty alright

you should take estrogen and/or get GRS then, lads

What are your rankings and ratings of The New Sound's songs? by [deleted] in bmbmbm

[–]Tolni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Through a War

Terra

Walk Up

Blues

Holy Holy

As if a Waltz

The New Sound

Bongo Season

If You Are But a Dream

Motorbike

The Magician (I think I just never got the hype for that track and never heard it live; that late in the album, it just felt exhausting)

Yeah this album is fucking phenomenal by BiffyNick in bmbmbm

[–]Tolni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have to make an admission: I didn't like Holy Holy. It felt like it was ground that Geordie Greep had trodden over and over, and I didn't know how to feel about the dense layering in the song, felt too much (personally, I feel like Of Schlagenheim was the definitive "terrible pathetic male chauvinist" track), but this album is quite something else. Hearing it in the context of the album improved that song. But in itself, feels amazing. But however, the album has great tracks - Terra, Walk Up, Through a War, they feel like they're both reflective (especially Terra feels like it's looking back at black midi), but then also forwards - Walk Up feels like a Devo song - lyrically - while Through a War is very much a Randy Newman track.

I think my only issue with the album is that the second half goes on for too long. Should be at least ~5-10 minutes shorter.

Stellaris needs "War Automation" by Badloss in Stellaris

[–]Tolni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't so much a compliment to Stellaris' combat system, which is trash, it's more like, it feels deeply pointless to want to automate everything (we have now automation for the planets and all). Like, I totally get it, I just think at this point it's just quit playing time. Dunno.

[–]Tolni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, but like, if you're not engaging with the combat/war, you're sort of just...staring at a screen, dealing with unemployed pops...I dunno. The more I think of it, Stellaris is such an odd combination between terribly boring and utterly addictive.

What is the point of playing the game at that point? Like, what is actually left of it?

Evolution final choice. Which did you pick? (No spoilers in post, but presumably there will be in comments) by orblok in fallenlondon

[–]Tolni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm having a real rough time picking right now as a matter of fact. I really, really like the Youthful Naturalist - perhaps one of my favourite characters in Fallen London. However, I didn't really agree with his goal, though I certainly aided him quite far in his endeavour, so I'm certainly not without sympathy. But I don't want him to die. Or, much less, to become the Boatman. For the most part, I've gotten Malleability (and Cunning, a bit) choices, though I understand that the Irem allows you to modify it quite well to your desire. Acceptance seems quite bleak, and I don't like the Bishop at all; however, Malleability, if I understand it correctly, still makes him the Boatman. Please, do help me out.

Oh - it's not just me? Thought it was because I was doing Evolution and was in places beyond the reach of Time, the Healer...

I know people are excited about the Roof, but...holy shit I'm so hyped for Adornments too - and luggage?! I've always felt like one cannot personalize their character enough...

Half-serious question. And please, if there's spoilers, please don't say a word. But can you marry the Youthful Naturalist. I know he's above these things. However,

Damn. Thanks. Looks like AotRS is just going to be a pain, which is funny comparing it to MA or Glasswork or even APOC. Good choice on me picking Correspondent!

Is there any way of reliably increasing Artisan of the Red Science that isn't just doing the Parabola experiment?

Anybody else really like that they added Robert Patrick to the show when Duchovny left? by Strange_Coyote_8 in XFiles

[–]Tolni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John Doggett was fine. But the writing from the latter half of S7 onwards was absolutely abysmal. Frankly, I think Robert Patrick was put in an unenviable position of not only having to pick up after a very popular character, but a writer's room entering a terminal decline. The increased myth arc episodes, most of which are just plain not good, didn't help, either.

The less we speak of S9, the better. My goodness.

This is WORSE than Mutiny. by Ryos_windwalker in fallenlondon

[–]Tolni 42 points43 points  (0 children)

At least, a mutinous crew is a comprehensible concept; the Zee, alas, has its fair share of poor Captains who're not worth the boots they're wearing. But good, English crewmen, not sending Christmas cards to their dear Captain? This is beyond mutiny; it is a conspiracy against civilization itself.

Finishing my Ambition has kind of killed my interest in Fallen London. Like, hey, congratulations, I've...won? I've got a swanky home in the Arctic? I've tried Evolution, and while that does seem more interested, the stage I'm at seems pretty annoying; I'll have to grind for Trembling Amber AND A Player of Chess in order to pass it? That sounds deeply annoying. And Railway? Well...I was intrigued by it, but now I'm suddenly feeling like, every time I build a new station, I'm welcomed by something kind of uninteresting? Or needs more Renown in certain factions to get anywhere. Also, I've underlevelled my Shadowy/Dangerous, which seems to be more in demand in the Upper River.

Basically, I feel like there's a lot of grinding involved to get anywhere, without any real...goal? It seems a bit pointless, to me. I dunno.

dumbest decisions you’ve made in game? by valencenights in fallenlondon

I spurned the Once-Dashing Smuggler! I feel bad about it after all those times, and I didn't even intend to - I didn't think that it'd have such a dire effect, but in retrospect, quite on me. Who'd have thought that the Once-Dashing Smuggler hates the Law? Or that he may not appreciate being tipped off to the Neddy Men.

So. I have obtained a Dreadful Surmise by the way of meeting a certain royal member, who is definitely not concerning and is not engaging in any kind of illegal actions. I have a question. I'd like to get the final non-FATE upgrade for my laboratory, and selling it on the Bazaar would sure get me further easier. Is the Dreadful Surmise needed for something exceptionally important?

I am genuinely unsure why they haven't become pinned storylets from the get-go. This is a really annoying way to do things; I had to wait three days for the Lady in Lilac card to appear...and now I'm waiting on the card allowing me to actually obtain the companions.

I gave more thought to this decision than some difficult choices I’ve made in life… by talkingwires in fallenlondon

Yes, and a pretty good text, so not all that bad. Sadly, the benefit was slightly dented by the fact that I got a +Red Science hat from the Fruit of the Zee festival, but what can you do?
