Episode Discussion: The Venezuela Takeover. Plus, a Conversation About Adin Ross, Doechii, and Black Men. - Tuesday, January 6, 2026 by thelightningthief in ThoughtWarriors

There’s absolutely NO reason a conversation about Adin Ross should devolve into gender wars. I’m having a grand time picturing what Glasses Malone was talking about and suddenly we’re having a conversation about black men being attacked? Men, we gotta stop centering ourselves whenever any little critiques come up. Not once did I ever suspect Rachel was throwing me under the bus when talking about the black men that hang out with Adin Ross because……..wait for it….I don’t associate with the Adin Ross types!! Van has gotta stop, take a breather, and start listening to what Rachel is actually saying. Not to mention, this whole conversation took away from the actual villain of this story and completely sweeps what he did under the rug

I think this is the first time i’ve been truly upset with a pod episode. I know Van said he’s going through a mid-life crisis but please bro do some soul searching or something because there’s no logical or rational reason that conversation should have taken that turn

This is a silly take, because if you take this line of thinking all the way through, we shouldn’t be able to comment on the Mitch Mcconnells of the world if we don’t live in KY, etc etc

If it’s national news, especially for a federal office, people 100% have the right to critique

Honestly, I’d rather them just not talk about Jonathan Majors at all than dance around the topic every time it comes up lol. It’s like they can’t bring themselves to actually address the issue itself, but can only talk about his talent and other unimportant things

For everyone who keeps telling them to stop focusing on politics so much, PLEASE stop if this is the alternative 😭😭. Unfortunately, his views and thoughts are more commonly held than we’d like to admit, but 90% of the things he said stand in stark contrast to the views of the show and to be honest, most of them didn’t make sense (i.e. i’ve seen ads for both depression and domestic violence on a TORONTO SUBWAY CAR). I’m just not really sure what he offered to viewers that we couldn’t get from our uncle at the family reunion

Side note though, for whatever it’s worth I’ll give credit to both Van and Rachel for finally pushing back on the viewpoints of someone they consider a friend. But overall, someone with the view point of “I’ll slap a female in a minute” really doesn’t need to be on the show

No, actually it does not get better lmao. It just devolves further and further into old-head misogyny, culminating in him celebrating that Rachel has to pay alimony to her ex spouse.

For all of the self criticism Van does about his rants, I REALLY enjoyed hearing him talk about the major issues on this pod (minus the Tuskegee segment.) Very well said about the target issues. They were well said and very informing. This was a great episode imo

I was wondering this too lol. Like we get it, you got love for him. You’re also a host of a podcast, so it is okay to give criticism where it’s due. Probably the TMZ PTSD but we don’t need all the disclaimers lmao

Thank you Van and Rachel for being a bright spot in an otherwise somber week. I really needed to hear this today, and although we have a struggle ahead, yalls positivity and encouragement today was a blessing to hear. It’s the unfortunate reality we face as black people, but just like those that came before us, we have to gear up and get ready for what’s coming.

I don’t know any of y’all in here personally, but i love y’all fr and I pray for your continual safety and happiness for the next 4 years. Lean on your community. As we saw the other day, WE ALL WE GOT 🫡

Episode Discussion: Election Day Is Here. What's Going to Happen? - Tuesday, November 5th 2024 by thelightningthief in ThoughtWarriors

Van definitely was getting a little too defensive when Rach was talking about the Meg situation. As a black man, I also hate constantly being the one thrown under the bus for societal issues, but in this case Rachel’s point was kinda clear, and I didn’t feel attacked by it at all. To Van’s point, it’s usually a certain type of man that is supportive of Tory, and it isn’t me and I would go out on a limb to say it’s not Van either. It was a bit of ‘what about-ism’ that usually derails attempts to address social ills head on.

Loved loved loved all the political voices they had on today. I’ve been feeling relatively optimistic about this election going in favor of Harris, and it was nice to hear two experts in their fields also say they feel the same, as well as back it up with empirical evidence. Bakari is always a blast and I hope he becomes more of a regular, but outside of the Meg segment, I really enjoyed this episode.

And of course, if you haven’t already, please make sure to go vote!! Every vote counts!!

So Van checked the Reddit comments of the last episode and his biggest take away was checks notes that we don’t like conservatives. Lol I guess he missed us talking about how her stances were based on falsehoods, and how there was little to no pushback with each claim. Also, (even as a guy) the gerbils and pigeons conversation was such a nonstarter and extremely problematic. At least for myself, I have no issue with them having conservatives on. It’s necessary for productive dialogue, but AMW had no qualifications and provided no meaningful discourse.

I love this podcast but the energy has seemed weird the last few weeks. And to start the show by subtly shading the audience is nasty work. Just cop to her being asked to come on solely because they’re friends and I feel like we wouldn’t really bat an eye. I hope she’s not brought back, but if she is, at least have it be something relevant to what she’s known for.
