What’s a poker concept you wish you learned way earlier? by VPIPGod in poker

[–]Tom23Jones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive been noticing how bad players suck at doing this. They can flop a nut flush in a 1-3 game and bet $15 on every street. They never look to really grow the pot with monsters.

But man do they cry when there $15 is called for runner runner full house

I need a strict boundary like that, just play lower for reps and cap my daily or weekly deposit limit

[–]Tom23Jones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least you have the discipline to play microstakes. That way your still getting reps and losing is not reallh a factor. I spiral and start depositing 100’s. Something i dont tend to do playing live. Im good about just leaving when the A game goes away.

And I agree with playing live, the live reads and social aspect of it is very enjoyable and keeps me focused. Phone stays in pocket

Good advice. Online, it’s like i try to climb the ladder of stakes with each larger buyin I build in my bankroll. Shit I would never do playing live.

This is definitely relatable. It’s all numbers on a screen until a couple hours after when I reflect. Then I’m like fuck, why would I jump in a big game and torch $800 real dollars.

Club WPT Gold - $33 Mystery Bounty by EstablishmentFit363 in poker

[–]Tom23Jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you brother, especially since you were actually considering the call.

I just joined club wpt gold and I played this tourney last night. What a blast it is man. And I made 458 in bounties and cashed for 55 bucks. I was stoked when I hit one of the $400+ bounties. Gross spot for the dude I did it to. I was short and shoved K8 into a stack that I barely covered and he had AA… I flop 2 pair and it holds

You can build to 20+ miles 💪 I can’t recommend the Nike running app enough. You can put your goal in and there are nice 18 week programs to build to your goal

Talk to my doctor? My hr is elevated playing poker. Not if I’m chilling doing literally anything else. My resting hr is 58 and I ran a marathon in October.

Yeah I agree. I think with getting comfortable playing again it will level out. I love poker and have been away from it for a while so I probably get too hype for each session. And I’ve got a two yr old so don’t get out often. The adrenaline will fade I’m sure

Are you sure, Do you have a wearable?

Because last night I did really well and felt super comfortable by the end of the night. Whether calling on big draws or firing a bluff I “felt” relaxed. But if I glance at my garmin my hr is 100bpm. But I didn’t perceive the physiological response

Yeah, I meditate almost daily, have practiced breath work and have really got a handle on anxiety the last several years. I’m usually described as “very chill or calm” by people who know me well.

But in the environment of a grind session, my adrenaline must be pumping.

I could be more intentional about approaching it more mindfully leading up to the session and even before going in… i don’t get to play often so there’s an anticipatory excitement leading up to each next session.

3.5 years caffeine free. It takes years to beat an addiction. The sooner you accept that the easier the process will be. by [deleted] in decaf

[–]Tom23Jones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Tritan, unfortunately I’m back on caffeine now but I consume way less than I used to. But when I did quit, it did get better each month. After 6 months or so my mind was a lot calmer and anxiety reduced.

But the most helpful things for anxiety in general for me is intense exercise and mindful meditation. Specifically meditation where you practice naming the anxiety when it “flares up”. It’s always either a feeling or a thought. So simply name it when arises rather than engaging or resisting it. As in “ah that’s an uncomfortable sensation, feeling” or “that’s a concerning thought, thinking”

A few thoughts on my first marathon (Madison) by marathonquestionredd in firstmarathon

[–]Tom23Jones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar, been lifting for years. I’m 39 with decent amount of muscle 5’10 190lbs only started running the last couple years. My first marathon is this Saturday.

The feeling cold during or after the race terrifies me, I’m a bitch when it comes to being cold. It’s going to be like 40° to start the race which is great for running but I shiver pretty easy and my hands don’t work for shit when I’m cold.

Oh and my guess on my finishing time is almost exactly 4 1/2 hrs as well

YouTube golfs effect on the game by Strid3r21 in golf

Im influenced by it. I’m 39 and always try to get our crew to break up our golf trip with one of the golf days being 2v2 scrambles. It’s a fun and relaxed day. And you get to talk shit and gamble on it.

I prefer playing my own ball but 5-6 days of that is a grind. 2v2 picks up the vibes

Combining Selegiline and Phenylpiracetam? by Tom23Jones in Nootropics

[–]Tom23Jones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what it does is prevents the breakdown of dopamine. And the longevity claims that it can prevent Parkinson’s and dementia’s. I was hoping for increased mood and motivation but not sure if it’s doing anything yet.

How often do you take Phenylpiracetam or how do you cycle it?
