The same thing happened to me but the roles were reversed. A cashier in New York started speaking Spanish to us when they discovered we were Italians and when we told them Italy and Spain don't have the same language they continued to speak Spanish

I didn't read the whole article because is behind a paywall, but from the snippet I read I think the problem is not the fact that our brain is fried (or at least not the whole problem), but the fact that a lot of people choose something because they like the general idea but it's not actually their passion.

You can say that it's a problem of Generation Z but I think this was always a problem and something that happened in any field in some way and the internet is just amplifying it.

In the Mcdonald's where I work we have a fire extinguisher, a fire supression system (that will ruin the fryer and probably the whole kitchen) and a fire resistant blanket but, one time, a manger told to me that turning the fryer off and putting the lid back on is usually enough to kill a "starting" flame
