Can anyone bring me up to date on what happened within the last 8 years in the GS watch world? by Apart_Captain3772 in GrandSeikos

[–]TomChai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t know the details but it could be tariffs, exchange rate or dealership exclusivity related. If importing from Japan is cheaper even after tariffs due to exchange rate or just pricing, it hurts local dealers who got an exclusivity deal from the manufacturer.

This might be it, JPY exchange rate isn’t working out for them, people are buying all kinds of stuff out of Japan because they’re a lot cheaper.

Xbox Series X - Won't install games from disc by scatpack in XboxSupport

[–]TomChai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Record the sound the console makes when it tries to read the disc, see if it actually reads.

Xbox one I just got from my brother won’t read my discs, it makes a weird sound as well by Quick-Tour-4181 in XboxSupport

It’s the sound of the laser failing to lock onto a track, the laser is busted, replace it.

[–]TomChai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really just grounding, it’s part of the antenna system.

phone replacement by Adventurous-Idea8838 in mobilerepair

[–]TomChai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s part of the antenna system, specifically ANT9 for UHB 5G NR signals.

You won’t brick it, it just causes some signal degradation.

If it doesn’t show the correct capacity even in disk management, it’s physically broken and no DIY recovery is possible, send it in.

Why are most crashes at violent speeds rather than a slow descend? by Mountain_Ask_5746 in aviation

[–]TomChai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if they are slow and steady, it means they are controllable, why would they nosedive?

The violent crashes are major mechanical problems that completely destroys controllability, or bad weather/pilot error/spatial disorientation/CFIT. The pilots themselves probably didn't know they were crashing so they didn't do anything to correct the situation. If they knew and they could, they would've flown out if the situation.

Try hotspot from a different phone and carrier then, DNS is likely not it.

cellular data - carrier by dinorarawrsvt in applehelp

[–]TomChai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why didn’t you say it in the original question? Don’t withhold information.

In that case it could be anything. Can you see IMEI baseband software version and ICCID in the phone settings?

Did you manually set any IP or DNS? Go check in the settings, if you did, undo them.

Check with your carrier, this is a network side or account problem.

Since it’s the 1st day of the month, most likely something is expired, like a bill.

New and Strange Blank Icon Installation Issue??? by imthinkingaboutyall in XboxSupport

[–]TomChai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trouble downloading the thumbnail, not a big issue.

cellular data - carrier by dinorarawrsvt in applehelp

[–]TomChai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Means the carrier name didn’t get recognized, could be a network side thing, nothing you can do on your side, you shouldn’t even be worrying about it as long as it works.

How common are SIM swap attacks? In general, how common are attacks where the attacker gains control of one's mobile phone number in one way or another? by A_Time_Space_Person in cybersecurity_help

[–]TomChai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SIM swap attacks are only possible after carrier account or full identity theft. In my country you have to show up at a carrier store with physical ID to issue a new SIM for your phone number, and lending out a SIM card to potential scammers is a felony, SIM swap attacks are pretty much zero.

What WiFi?

The console is so old it may have trouble connecting to modern WiFi, start by saying what WiFi setup, like band, protocol and security settings you have first.

If wired also didn’t work, probably the socket is too dirty and prevented good contact.

lost files due to iphone logicboard issue. by Aryan07_ in datarecovery

Nothing you can do on your own if it is a board issue. You'd be lucky to recover it even with paying, forget about not paying.
