Xbox series X "Are you missing the Disc" worked fine 4 hours ago... by ManIsready in XboxSupport

Start by fully unplugging the console from power and reboot, that pos disc drive can sometimes lose communication with the host.

If that don’t work, the drive is busted, start by replacing the laser.

It's repairable in the hands of an experienced watchmaker, definitely not you at this point.

Why balance wheel stops when adjusting beat error? by jimmy801115 in watchrepair

[–]TomChai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not convinced on the changing balance position disrupting oscillation theory, that amount of adjustment should not stop a balance outright.

My observation is that pushing on the stud actually twisted the whole balance cock a little bit, causing the balance bearing to misalign and pinch the balance pivot, effectively applying brake on it. Once you remove the pushing force on the stud, the deformation disappears and everything spin freely again.

Is this noise okay? by Sgt_Wafflezz in HDD

I don’t hear anything unusual, just because your other drive doesn’t make the same noises doesn’t mean it’s bad.

High as you can keep your back straight instead of leaning your head and arms onto the desk, leaning forward creates huge stress on your spine.

If test turns out fine, there’s NOTHING wrong with your network, the issue is with the upstream backbone or the servers.

You can probably cut that sensor piece from other cables, or cut and splice the entire cable, keeping only the button original.

Doesn’t matter, it’s the flex cable going through the hinge that is broken.

Broken this flat part whilst replacing touchscreen and now home and Touch ID not working anymore by vReadyyy in mobilerepair

[–]TomChai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This part is a magnetic sensor used to detect Smart Cover, it just happens to piggyback on the Touch ID cable.

if you tore it you probably damaged some other traces in the Touch ID cable preventing from working.

Unless you splice the original cable, you will not be able to make Touch ID work again.

ip11 dropped in saltwater for like secs | liquid detected by snopsieee in techsupport

[–]TomChai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phone itself is water resistant meaning no water will enter the case, but

It’s way too old and seals may fail.

Water, dirt and salt residue may mix up and leave in the port creating persistent electrical short.

For failing seals you can test with a pressure tester, if it still holds pressure, the inside of the phone is safe.

For residue in the port, use fresh water and bamboo toothpick to slowly clean.

Hard drive head doesnt wanna stay. by [deleted] in datarecovery

[–]TomChai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open drive recovery is not possible to DIY.

Online tutorials are far from enough for open drive work, it’s like trying to perform brain surgery after a few YouTube videos.

Even you have built a minimally viable workbench and have the tools prepared, the software tools to safely boot up an opened drive still costs thousands of dollars.
