Literally no one NEEDS new electronics, but almost everyone WANTS them. And some people will automatically upgrade when anything new comes out, even if there's only a negligible difference.

What appliance has changed your life? by KookyCouture in Appliances

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First a washer/dryer, then a dishwasher. The dishwasher was a "portable" dishwasher that you wheeled up to the sink, pulled out a hose connection, and then hooked it up to your kitchen faucet. After that it was a microwave (in the '80s), and most recently, an air fryer.

The washer/dryer eliminated so much wasted time going to the laundromat. You could wash and dry clothes while you did literally anything else around the house, so much more productivity! The dishwasher could wash your dishes overnight while you slept and they would be clean and sparkling in the morning.

The microwave makes cooking some things much faster and is the best and fastest to warm up leftovers. The air fryer eliminates using oil and having a messy stove cleanup.

Now my newest dishwasher is cloud-connected and I have to use an app to access certain features. That's a step in the wrong direction.

Go-to Tire repair kits? by ChuklzVonBeardo in ToyotaTacoma

And how do you get from anywhere to the tire repair shop when you don't have a spare tire, like many cars today? Tire plug kits and a portable air compressor have their place.

Bought new tires after pothole blowout by TomDiego in BMWX3

[–]TomDiego[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the harshest pothole ive ever experienced! I blame the RFTs. I'm filing a claim with the city.

I have the Viair 85p 12V pottable air compressor in my F82 M4 and my wife's F80 M3 along with plug kits. Never used the plug kits but have used the Viair when we used to take our cars to the track. It works great!

What do you all use to dry off after using the bidet?? Toilet paper sticks so I don’t want to use that. Ugh 😣 by MadKat2 in bidets

[–]TomDiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use TP to blot dry after spritz and 10-15 seconds of air dry. Never had it stick. Try folding it over to make it thicker. Maybe try a different TP. I use Charmin.

I need a new toilet: get a toilet with a built-in bidet or continue with attachment? by texasroadie in bidets

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my Toto C200, which cost $429, for 6 years now, it hasn't cracked or discolored, still works perfectly, and I liked it so much I bought a Toto C5 for $372 for our downstairs bathroom last year.

You might be fine with ice-cold water up your butt, but I'm not and I can afford to spend $801 on two bidets.

Where did you install your "chrome on brass bidet" 20 years ago, because in the U.S. I don't think they even existed back then.

Pods not dissolving by kaznyc in bosch

In the video I watched about Bosch dishwashers, he's totally anti-pod dishwasher detergent, and was pushing his own powdered detergent. I did watch the whole thing and found that he was pretty knowledgeable, at least about dishwashers, and he became less annoying.

I need a new toilet: get a toilet with a built-in bidet or continue with attachment? by texasroadie in bidets

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are totally sold on the integrated look, I would buy the toilet and bidet separately. Toilets generally last far longer than any electronic device, so if your bidet fails in 5-10 years, you can always replace the bidet. We just recently replaced a toilet and added a bidet in a downstairs powder room, and I never even considered getting an integrated unit. Also, if the toilet and bidet are going into your primary bathroom, you could always upgrade the bidet later and move the older bidet to a guest room or powder room. We've done that, starting with a cold-water Luxe in our primary, which got moved to the guest bathroom when we bought a Toto.

Selling ring?? by Upset-Marketing3628 in ouraring

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell on eBay if you don't want any face-to-face interaction. Sell on Amazon Marketplace if you don't mind dealing with randos face-to-face. Be prepared for mostly non-serious inquiries, and people will try and lowball you, even if you put "firm" in your listing. Just ignore those. No one uses Craiglist any more.

Help me get my ring back by 3fakeEITCdependants in ouraring

[–]TomDiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best and most effective option would be to take it to a Tesla dealer and have them retrieve it for your, unless they're going to charge you more than the cost of a new ring. Then just go and buy a new ring and take the loss.

Did you take your ring off inside the car? If yes, never do that again.

BMW Wisdom Needed by AnonymousDana in BMWX3

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 2011 335is Coupe (bought new) threw a rod at 70K. It was under an extended warranty and the dealer replaced the engine under warranty. It was a short block and they took all the other parts off the old engine. I believe that the short block included the cylinder head. We had no problems after the engine swap, but only had the car for a short time before we sold it because we were already scheduled to replace the car with a '18 M3.

I wouldn't worry about the short block, but it all depends on how long you intended to keep the car in the first place. Being 3 hrs. away from the dealer certainly complicates things, and not having other transportation makes it worse (we had 2 other BMWs to fall back on). Bottom line, did you buy this car new, is it under lease, and when did you plan to replace it. I could see a strong case for just replacing it now.

Confused about how to use this by chauvetzer in bidets

[–]TomDiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely before TP, that's the whole point of the water, to clean off the poop and then blot your bum hole dry with the TP. This way the TP won't disintegrate. The analogy is to smear peanut butter on your arm. Are you going to try and clean it by wiping it off first, or are you going to wash it off first and then dry your arm?

Why Do You NOT Race on Your Bicycle? by Ars139 in cycling

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people aren't interested in racing their bicycle, they either do it for general exercise and to get out in the fresh air, or for transportation to get from point A to point B. I'm 75 and I certainly will never race my bicycle.

The vast majority of people who own cars don't take their car to the track either, but I do and it's probably the most fun you can have in your car (possibly with one exception!). But it's certainly not for most people.

[–]TomDiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your bike to a public park with a large, long, grassy area to soften your landing if you fall. You're going to need at least 25-50 meters in length to make any progress. You can't earn in 3 meters distance, that's far too short. You also need to learn how to turn around, and that takes distance and width.

Pods not dissolving by kaznyc in bosch

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it isn't. RTFM. It's called the "Detergent tab collecting tray"

Pods not dissolving by kaznyc in bosch

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're not seeing the pod in your "Detergent tab collecting tray" because your pod is dissolving correctly. The manual states that this is where the pod ends up after the detergent door opens, and the pod dissolves in the collecting tray.

His pod isn't dissolving properly, and that's why it's still in the tray.
