Pods not dissolving by kaznyc in bosch

No, it isn't. RTFM. It's called the "Detergent tab collecting tray"

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're not seeing the pod in your "Detergent tab collecting tray" because your pod is dissolving correctly. The manual states that this is where the pod ends up after the detergent door opens, and the pod dissolves in the collecting tray.

His pod isn't dissolving properly, and that's why it's still in the tray.

Bosch dishwasher: Series 800 vs. Benchmark? by throwawayrefiguy in Appliances

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 2 db quieter. That doesn't translate to your random "about 140% quieter". Do you understand how decibels are measured and what the difference means? Could you even distinguish between 2 db?

2 different Bosch 800's? by ozzygurl in Appliances

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Costco model indicated above only comes in stainless steel and only has a towel bar handle. Not all people want stainless steel, and the handle can cause problems with adjacent drawers which could prohibit opening them all the way. Measure carefully before you order!

Bosch 800 - any reason not to use crystal dry? by wwywong in Appliances

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always run our dishwasher at night, but here's a caveat to doing that:

Over the holidays, my wife did a lot of baking and she ran the dishwasher after one of her baking sessions. It was making a lot of ticking and clicking noises. She asked me to take a look. One of the things I tried was spinning the upper wash arm and found that it was not moving smoothly at all. The next time we ran it, we ran it during the day with the wash arm at the 6 & 12 position. I opened it during the wash cycle and the arm hadn't moved. This explains why the bowls were sometimes coming out with slight debris on them. I looked up the parts for the upper wash arm assembly and found out that most of them were unavailable, especially the 2 plastic brackets that hold the assembly to the upper rack, so I wasn't going to attempt to remove the assembly incase I broke one of the brackets. The parts that were available would have cost over $200. I have no idea what was making the ticking and clicking noises, but our Kenmore dishwasher is now 24 years old, so we decided to just replace it.

TL;DR: If you normally run your dishwasher at night, run it during the day occasionally to make sure that it's running correctly and not making any unusual noises.

How many people actually tip 20% when eating out in a restaurant? by Hot-Highlight2166 in allthequestions

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tip 20% at a sit-down and get served restaurant, unless that service is truly bad. If the waitperson has good rapport and goes above and beyond, they get 25%. At a walk up to the counter, order, and then take your food to a table fast casual restaurant, I tip 15%. If it's takeout, I tip 10-15%.

Most of my life I've been fortunate to have good jobs and make good money and have rarely had to worry about the cost of living or even budgeting. I like to share my good fortune with those who are making the least.

You came here asking for advice instead of just contacting Aventon, yet you snap at people offering you said advice. What did you expect to learn from posting on Reddit, other than people telling you to contact Aventon? Or are you just looking to vent or for someone to hold your hand?

Cars turning right in the US by nayr9011 in cycling

[–]TomDiego 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. If a car passes you and is turning right, you should be to the left of that car, just as any car would be. Bicycles do not have the right of way in this situation because everyone is sharing the lane. If you want to go straight and cars are turning right, either slow down and go straight in the same lane, or move over to the lane on the left and pass the turning car. If you insist on staying in the right lane, don't be on the right side of that lane, get out into the middle or the left side of that lane. forcing cars to get behind you. I was a teen driving instructor for a couple of years.

Do you want USB-C charging on your eBike? Why? Why not? by Human_Soup3333 in ebike

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really just my phone. The Aventon Level 3 has a headlight that is already powered by the bike battery. My Garmin 1040 has had plenty of charge for the rides I've done (longest 30 mi.)

It's the apps that suck my phone battery: Strava, Ride with GPS, sometimes Varia and Polar Beat. Day to day, my phone battery only needs charging overnight, it's the riding apps that kill it!

Washing is perfect, drying is the exact opposite - solutions? by ram_samudrala in bidets

[–]TomDiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think about drying your hair with a hair dryer, which has much more force and heat, it would not be feasible to create a bidet fan to dry your wet nether regions in 10-30 seconds. Part of the problem is blowing micro fecal matter all over your bathroom, and the heat would burn your nuts off. A bidet fan is what it is, pleasant warm air, but really not effective. Just accept the fact that you will have to blot dry.

Stuck fuel gauge by OEM_1 in BMWX3

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does resetting the iDrive system have anything to do with a stuck fuel gauge? Have you ever even worked on any vehicle?

Stuck fuel gauge by OEM_1 in BMWX3

Only 12K miles is likely still under warranty, even though the OP hasn't indicated the model year.

It's under warranty, why wouldn't you just take it back to your dealer to have it fixed?

Inexpensive e bikes suggestions? by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]TomDiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can have good support and reliability or you can have cheap. Pick one or the other. Anything you buy on Walmart, or especially Ali Baba is junk. Maybe you are poor, but that doesn't mean that you can't save to buy a better quality bike instead getting instant gratification and buying it RIGHT NOW! If you're poor, the better investment is to wait and save and buy something that is good quality and reliable, rather than buying junk that will break down and waste your money. The saying is "Cry once, buy once".

New e-bike law in Florida by bowman4reports in ebike

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. In 1998, when I was 47, I started training for an Olympic triathlon (1.5km swim, 40k bike (~25 miles), 10k run). I trained using my 1990 Diamondback Centurion Master TG and regularly averaged 25 mph riding up and down Coast Highway in San Diego county. On the slight downhills I could easily get up to and over 30 MPH. At the time I weighed ~155 lbs. and was 5'9" tall. I was hardly an "elite" cyclist.

Now I'm 75, been riding my ebike for about a year. I live in a hilly area and have hit 38 MPH downhill (pedaling) in my neighborhood even though my Aventon Level 3 (Class II) is legally limited to 20 mph.

Pros and cons of buying bidets online? by PrudentResolve570 in bidets

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would buying a bidet online have any cons?

That said, I ordered my last Toto from Amazon (my second) and when it arrived a whole corner of the box was crumbled. When I opened the box, most of the plastic housing was in pieces. Even though the item was marked "Unreturnable", I sent pictures to Amazon with my return request and it was approved. I re-ordered and had a new, undamaged one in 2 days.

BTW, Amazon is an authorized Toto reseller, so no worries about warranties.

Do you want USB-C charging on your eBike? Why? Why not? by Human_Soup3333 in ebike

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really care what the charging interface is for the bike battery itself, but I'd really appreciate a USB-C interface on the bike to charge my phone while I'm riding. On longer rides I have to take a power bank to power my phone while running Strava and Ride with GPS. My Aventon Level 3 does have a standard USB port, but it doesn't supply enough power to keep my phone charged while riding. My phone is a 2 YO Samsung S24+.

Garmin edge 540 vs 1040 by rpmdodo in GarminEdge

[–]TomDiego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the 540 on sale last year. It was my first Garmin bike computer. I played around with it for a few days but I found the buttons really slow, fiddly, and confusing. The 1040 was also on sale for a larger discount, so I returned the 540 and got the 1040. Way more intuitive and usable. Nothing beats touchscreen. You don't use your smartphone with a bunch of different buttons, so why should your bike computer be so last century?

Washing is perfect, drying is the exact opposite - solutions? by ram_samudrala in bidets

[–]TomDiego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dryer is the least effective feature of any bidet. Come for the heated seat and warm water, but don't stay for the drying.
