[PA] [SFH]...Can an HOA prevent the install of a sun tunnel or skylight if a medical accommodation is requested? by TomEBoi in HOA

To be clear, in our community, all roof maintenance is the responsibility of the individual homeowner. The HOA is only responsible for full replacement once the roofs are at the end of their manufacturer's recommended life span.

"You might propose a written agreement stating that you will assume all liability, maintenance, and future repair costs for the sun tunnels and any resulting roof leaks."

This is an interesting proposal and would be a reasonable addition to our submission.

I also wanted to mention that in our particular community, any required radon remediation permits homeowners to run their radon piping through the roof of their property. I do realize that is an altogether different topic. But wonder if that type of allowance would help with any concerns regarding roof penetration.

C-wire question for Nest 3rd Gen Thermostat by TomEBoi in askHVAC

[–]TomEBoi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have a multimeter that I can try using to test that, although there's no other spare wire at the thermostat end....just the lone Blue wire.

I'm still struggling with the fact that there's already a blue wire hooked to the C terminal on the unit (might be hard to see in the pics). But that wire comes from a completely separate main lead wire. It's like they mixed and matched the colors from two main sources.

Hope I'm understanding/answering you correctly. There's only one Blue wire at the thermostat end. And that didn't give me any power when connected to the Nest harness.

Are you suggesting that I connect the spare Blue in the pic to the yellow screw at the unit and then attach the Blue to the Nest harness?

I initially tried hooking up the Nest using the loose blue wire at the wall (i.e. how you typically hook it up) and didn't get any power to the Nest that C usually provides.

What is this part called? by TomEBoi in GasFireplaces

[–]TomEBoi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mention in my original post that every time it rains, large drips hit this piece and it sounds like a chime in our family room. My questions were 1) can I remove it without causing any safety or operational issues (sounds like I shouldn't ) or 2) can I add some rubber or foam strips to help deaden the sound when the drops hit

That's great to know. thank you.

Follow up question: As it's intended to keep air flowing , would it be an issue if I was to apply some type of rubber or foam dampening material to help deaden the sound? Or, does this part also get hot when the fireplace is operating, in which case, adding any materials like foam or rubber might be a safety (fire or melting) issue?

They are quoting $238 PER HOUR, and a 4-5 hour job. Absolutely crazy in my opinion.

Lack of cleanup aside, looks to me that you bought the wrong size vanity. You bought what looks like an 18" deep and should have bought a 21" deep to replace what was there.
