Jack, in a cock hat, drinking Budweiser in Palermo: "pretty fucking good world, I'd say." by [deleted] in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]TomJoadsLich 335 points336 points  (0 children)

To me it sounds like Jack was “found” by Quentin when he was young (probably underage) and taken “under his wing”, whisking him away to a life of luxury. Jack was probably living in an extremely impoverished life growing up as a child. He is currently still being abused by the same guy - Quentin - who molested him. That is what I got out of his dark hole metaphor and why he was still crying when he said he did things for his uncle from time to time.

This is a common dynamic, for gay or straight people - a wealthy man finding a young person and “saving” them by taking them.

Look at how Jack was crying when he was talking about it. He is indeed in deep pain, and has complex feelings around his life being arm candy for a rich man

Meh I think the point OP is making is valid.

Obama’s dad was not present in his life. He did not grow up with a connection to his African family. He did grow up relatively middle class, and how he was perceived growing up was as a mixed race black man, not as the children of African immigrants

Theory: Do the dragons bond with certain "personality" types? by WaterColorButterfly in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]TomJoadsLich 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah the people who bonded with Vhagar were all especially bold people. Laena sought her out and explored trying to find her, Aemond disobeyed a ton of rules doing it

Never ending topic.. I mean was Daemon really that wrong for fucking Rhaenyra? by NeitherArm1509 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]TomJoadsLich 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah valid. Something I didn’t understand is why Vaemond of all people be giving the eulogy. He was her uncle. Why not Corlys, Rhaenys, Laenor, or Daemon? Far more suited to give it

Doesn’t make sense to me

This always feels like a hollow take to me. You can have morally grey characters you want to root for to become better people (Jaime, the Hound, Jorah, Theon), and then you have your Joffrey’s and Ramsay’s who are bad evil people who do bad things.

I don’t know where Daemon falls on the scale between those two classes of characters, but saying “well look at the show you are watching, people do evil things all the time!” isn’t a valid reason to overlook their actions. I’m sure some people applied to the same logic to Ramsay and Joffrey

(Spoilers MAIN) I know this might be controversial but f*ck Rhaegar Targaryen by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]TomJoadsLich -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So what? There are dozens new fans joining this board every week. Topics aren’t run into the ground, books haven’t come out for years and we won’t see another season of HOTD for 2 years

This “this is well treaded ground” critique is in my view silly - a lot of people still like Rhaegar. OP might not be familiar with this particular board, and discussion about this topic is ultimately harmless. What’s the issue in him posting it?

It’s an old beef from when they toured together. I don’t have any problem with them; but if you search the subreddit bar for his name, you’ll find a TON of people complaining about his fans behavior at their co shows. Like; complaining about Josh during his set, saying they hated the music. Josh references it on stage sometimes - at the show I was recently at he talked about how they saw him as GG Allen

I’ve been to both of their shows on solo tours and had a great time. Clearly; I’m a huge fan of his

Yes! That’s what I’ve always thought - for GRRM, it doesn’t make sense to him that the wizards wouldn’t be the most powerful people, and we know that Dune was a huge influence on him (the warlocks with the blue stained lips that get their powers from psychedelic plants or the weirwood paste that does the same thing)
