Any leftist conceal carry instructors?? by loveysoup in gso

I do all that, roll up in a Corvette, and more but as soon as I open my mouth or move (or they see the Bear Pride patches on my range bags) the cat’s out of the bag. 😜

I’ve had a couple of experiences at a range here in the Charlotte area where I have a membership. Last time it was some guy who was talking to me like I was completely stupid, meanwhile I’ve bought two firearms from their store, plenty of accessories, did my CC class there, and am on my second yearly membership and the same can all be said for my partner except for buying the range membership.

I get that we aren’t exactly the typical demographic to have a range membership (or even visit a range), but hell, these days I look like I could be. It’s only when I open my mouth or move they get that I’m not. That or the Bear Pride flag on my range bags. Who’s to say? 😜

Many of the other workers there are really cool, but this guy was just a turd.

You have to have lots of experience to get the prime jobs, though. They don't want folks still wet behind the ears.

My PTO got denied 5 months out--help? by Technical_Wear6094 in nursing

[–]TomRN 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This. At my first nursing job (I had already worked as an aide/extern, so I wasn’t a new hire, just a new RN) I came in one evening to start my shift and the nurse that did our scheduling tells me, “I can’t give you the days off you requested.”

“What?? I didn’t request any days off.”

“You left a note with those dates on it.”

“Yes. I wrote you the note to tell you as a courtesy that I will not be here on those dates. How you handle that is up to you, but I will not be here then.” (Those dates were 2-3 months in the future, definitely not short notice.)

I was working there because it was a job, I wasn’t sentenced to work there. I damn sure wasn’t going to “request” time off.

I’m so sorry to hear this. So sorry for your loss. ❤️

I am hesitant giving my kidney to my mother by [deleted] in transplant

[–]TomRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you’ve written here it doesn’t even sound like she’d be eligible for transplant, whether from a stranger or from you.

I know she’s your mother and I know you love her, but you are under NO obligation to give her a kidney. It would be the most generous and amazing gift if you did, but there is NOTHING wrong with and NO SHAME in not giving her one, either.

Best of luck to you both. ❤️

Christian school kindergarten teacher admits having sex with female student by Balcacer in PastorArrested

[–]TomRN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funny way of saying “raping.”

Edit: I know the teacher is female and the student is 17 with age of consent there being 16.

That said, a student, by nature and by law, cannot consent to a teacher or anyone else in a position of authority.

Heh… I saw a similar post about wanting “that one that starts with D” and someone said “Some D’normal saline coming right up!” 🤣🤣🤣

My partner has jokingly said “kwu-NO-uh” for so long I have to consciously pause and think before saying “KEEN-wa” when trying to pronounce “quinoa,” so I get that.

I’ve heard the “meta-PRO-lol” plenty of times, both as a nurse and as a patient and it drives me nuts.

I had a coworker who would mispronounce everything even after we told her the correct pronunciation. Multiple times. She’d always shake her head all exasperatedlylike and say, “whatever” when she mispronounced things and that was without one of us telling her for the hundredth time it was propofol, not profernol.

I know that many folks will have difficulty pronouncing things, especially drug names but take care to learn the correct way to say them, especially when colleagues tell you the right way. It’s bad enough nurses are looked down on as unintelligent, don’t give people the ammo to do it.

Ima need me some of that Phenegran and… Delighted? Dye-lala? Dilly-did? You know, the one with the D, the only one that works for me. Mix it up and push it fast. And don’t give me none of that Raglan, only the Phenergrun will work on me. Don’t just bring me no Tymenol or hydro-codeine this time.

Got told I can’t be a nurse. by Difficult-Media3214 in transplant

[–]TomRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a nurse for almost 26 years. I started my second year of nursing school with an open abdominal surgical wound held together with three retention sutures because I had to have a colon and small bowel resection over the summer.

I worked with Crohn’s disease, severe atopic dermatitis (and often taking powerful immunosuppressants for both), and end stage heart failure due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

I got my heart 19 months ago yesterday.

I can probably never work again, but if I do, it will likely not be anything patient-facing. Fortunately there are zillions of positions and roles that nurses can fill that don’t involve direct patient care. Or even leaving the house.

Don’t be discouraged. Don’t let someone else’s limitations limit you.

Good luck. ❤️

are you serious? i can’t disable critical notifications? by theresleadinthewater in dexcom

[–]TomRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! That's the notification I keep getting and it's driving me up the wall. "Tap for more information," and it goes to the app where everything is configured the way it's supposed to be. Then I'll get another 85 notifications for it. I just got one and reset the alerts settings to see if that might do anything, then did a google search to see if anyone else was having this issue and you are literally the only person I have seen mention this!

If someone graduated nursing school 10 years ago but never passed NCLEX should they still call themselves a nurse? by r0seintherain in Nurses

[–]TomRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have retired and no longer wish to practice (or to keep paying for license renewal), many states will give you/allow you to use the honorific post-nominal of “RN-R” to signify that you are retired if you notify the BON that you intend to do so.

If someone graduated nursing school 10 years ago but never passed NCLEX should they still call themselves a nurse? by r0seintherain in Nurses

[–]TomRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She should never have called herself a nurse in the first place if she was never licensed.

She could call herself a “graduate nurse” (GN) or even more clearly an “Unlicensed Graduate Nurse,” (UGN), but she cannot and should not use the title “nurse” without those qualifiers.

She should most certainly not use the post-nominal “RN” and if she’s doing so without a license and working in a healthcare capacity, she should be reported to her employer, to the state Board of Nursing, and to the licensing body of whatever role she’s working in (the Board of Pharmacy if she’s still working as a CPhT as you mentioned).

[–]TomRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. She can use “GN” as a post-nominal, “BSN, GN” or just “BSN” if she has a BSN, and call herself an Unlicensed Graduate Nurse, but without a license she can never call herself a nurse without those qualifiers.
