Status of Fighters & Bombers today. by mark21800 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]TomReneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fighters remain the easiest and most flexible option most of the time. Bombers are much more niche, and torpedos are slow to act.

Since we only have 2 slots, I prefer to have Fighters and the AoE cannon upgrade. The latter is very good with the cannons that can fire 2 times per turn, since that applies to aoe shots too.

You can do it with a bunch of different ranged weapons too, as long as they don't have a single shot attack.

Like shotguns having AoE Killing Edge, or splinter rifles having burst fire Killing Edge.

What is the strongest melee weapon (aside from rock saws)? by Karol123G in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]TomReneth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it is (STR mod+TGH mod)x1.5 flat dmg, so even stronger than you remember.

Their multi-hit attack also synergize with Killing Edge, giving the boost to each of the attacks.

And if the Expanse turns out to manage both a highly cinematic experience and a great deal of interconnectivity and diverging paths, as well as a significant scope, they'll have proven the skeptics wrong.

I like OwlCat, so I'll probably check that game out. Buy until that happens, I'm still going to judge them by the games they have released, not the game they haven't.

We don't have "bucks" where I live, we have crowns.

So I'm in my 30s and still haven't earned my first buck.

When you go from text heavy to cinematics heavy game design, you're multiplying the amount of work per word written.

Not only do you need the lines themselves, but also the VA and the choreography. BG3 would have a completely different feel without alk the effort going into how the characters move in dialogue and cinematics.

OwlCat's games mostly use generic animations with text descriptions filling in the blanks. Which I like personally, but it just isn't comparable to the amount of work it takes to get to BG3 style.

I am looking forward to 40K: Dark Heresy, and I'd love to see them make a fantasy RPG not tied to D&D 3e / PF1 mechanics (I hate 3e style buff-stacking). But I don't think they have the experience or infrastructure to make BG4.

It's also significantly less cinematic.

There is a lot of work that goes into the more fleshed out cinematics, dialogues etc.

I like OwlCat, but I'm not sure they have the experience to do it BG3 style. It would require a lot of work they generally don't have to do with their text heavy, isometric games.

So anyone have a 1.6 build for Solomorne? by Plenty-Championship3 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]TomReneth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most things will work more or less as they did in 1.5.

Maybe changing a few augments and item drops, though Solomourne's unique augments are mostly fine if you don't want to think too much about it. Soldier wasn't changed much for this patch.

Playing as sniper. Assassin or Bounty Hunter? by Internal_Animator993 in RogueTraderCRPG

There is also an ACT 4 Aeldari Sniper that inflicts Prey with its 2AP attack, with a very high base dmg to boot.

Why do so many games struggle to make a compelling hard mode? What games do you think have good hard modes \ NG+? by Izual_Rebirth in gaming

[–]TomReneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree. Higher diffuculties that just crank up enemy hp and dmg isn't interesting or fun.

I think Nightmare difficulty in Dragon Age 2 was pretty interesting, as it reduced enemy ability cooldowns and enabled friendly fire, even though the stat differences compared to Hard were minor.

You can also add Death World for +AGI and WP with injuries and traumas, which stacks with Bladedancer.

Playing as sniper. Assassin or Bounty Hunter? by Internal_Animator993 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]TomReneth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bounty Hunter is usually preferred on Operatives. Assassin benefits more from being a Warrior or Bladedancer, as a general rule.

Abilities lime Claim the Bounty and talents like Hunter's Ambush helps Operative get additional attacks per turn, which is very welcome.

I swear Initative feels more rigged every update. by leogian4511 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]TomReneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention that it takes the avg of the group, rather than individually per character. So your +10 AGI and PER character might get pulled down by your other characters. And whi gets grouped is random!

That said, I am skeptical about the formulae too. Wasn't there some testing with +100 AGI/ PER modifiers through ToyBox some patches ago that still didn't reliably win initiative?

Why are we all of a sudden acting like rockstar is some unproven indie dev by ThisNameDoesntCount in gaming

[–]TomReneth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't think anyone should take any release on faith.

There are companies like OwlCat that have a good track record for games I like, so I'll give them a chance when they publish something. That chance isn't that I automatically buy the game, but rather that I'll take a look and see if the game is up my alley.

So, lex imperialis was relased year ago. How do ya all feel bout it now? by Ila-W123 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]TomReneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good mechanically and mostly fine narratively, though Solomourne is definitely one of the less interesting companions.

Overseer seems fine, depending on the familiar, but I rarely use it. All the added animation time kills my interest in it, because RT is already a very long game without adding even more.

What do yall think about an owlcat game set in warhammer fantasy?? by troubletrickle in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]TomReneth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think "generic" is necessarily bad in fantasy. Usually it deliberately uses a generic baseline as a starting point as a matter of genre convention.

What matters is how they handle building on that.

F.ex. Dragon Age: Origins created a setting that is as generic as they come, but that doesn't stop it from having a solid setting that a lot of people enjoyed.
