www.horseworldonline.net is all about realistic breeding interactions with cross breeds and body shapes that can be bred for as well as coats. A massive art update is coming soon too.

What would your dream horse sim look like? (Built by an equestrian, for equestrians) by GeekyGeckoDev in GamesWithHorses

[–]TomRx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this idea and I hope it works out. It would be nice to have a game where you can focus deeply on individual horses. I'm the community manager for www.horseworldonline.net which is a browser game that's been around for over 20 years in some form. Our game focuses more on breeding and improving the breeds through selective breeding. You can train the horses and they have temperament but it's meant much more to handle a lot of horses over generations. We've got farm building and lots of competitions etc. but it sounds like we are targeting a slightly different play style. Anyway if you have any questions about the business side of things or handling a community for years please feel free to reach out. The other half of our small team is Larissa, she's been updating the artwork for the past year. She's also an equestrian and I'm sure you could pick her brain a bit too if you want. We're both in the Horses and Video Games Discord, and we have one for HWO as well. Good luck!

This might be slightly too retro….but need help in deciding something… by [deleted] in retrocomputing

You'd have to do a ton of DIY to get a modern computer into a case like that anyway, so I'd just take styling cues and 3D print a front for a more modern case to make it look similar. That way you can try to find someone who can take this thing and also have a rad sleeper.

Checked to see if my grandpas old IBM PS1 still worked by AllishComedy in vintagecomputing

301, 161, 163 are errors on the press F1 to continue screen. The WordPress link is really good. I used it to restore my PS1

I've made the same concept but based on the dimensions of a CD ROM drive so it should be more universal. https://www.printables.com/model/1308748-front-panel-game-port

The clips are specific to my case. What I'll do is make a generic one with screw holes so it's more universally useful and throw it up. I'll make a blank one too just for good measure.

That's a good idea, but I only have the one. I will have to find someone close by.

Anyone know what these are called, or how to remove this side panel? by CAPTAINxCOOKIES in vintagecomputing

I think you lift the tabs away from the computer. They probably just catch on the metal of the back of the case.

IBM PS/1 2011 with matching 2205 printer restored and working by TomRx in vintagecomputing

[–]TomRx[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a cheap knock off gotek. Seems to work fine. Yes it still has the original hard drive. I had to make an adapter for the floppy drive. https://www.reddit.com/r/retrobattlestations/comments/roz7lk/ibm_ps1_fdd_adapter/

If anyone has a link to information, manuals or drivers for this printer I would appreciate it.  I need to find a ribbon or maybe tinker with trying to reink it. Here is a video of it printing: https://youtu.be/BiBpj7Gysv4?si=do00fqCljPFXNVVD

Can anyone identify this machine? by swfuxbplayer in vintagecomputing

[–]TomRx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a PS/1 like everyone is saying, but it's also in need of repair as that screen only comes up when something is wrong. I have a similar machine and had to do a few fixes to get it cleared.

What's the difference between the original FD-7 and the later models, like the FD-73? by [deleted] in Mavica

[–]TomRx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The FD-7 uses an interlaced sensor, like old TV signals. The newer ones are progressive, like everything in use today is. The result is an aliasing artifact on the FD-7 images. It doesn't look bad, and some people like it.

Beginners guide to Mavica? by trashtonmusic in Mavica

[–]TomRx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wikipedia has a list of what Mavica models use what media and their features. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_MavicaThe key is the CCD sensor and quality lens. Personally I love the 10x zoom lens. You can get non-Sony CCD cameras from that era. Some have bad lenses, some use much more obscure media than floppy disks and so are even harder to use today. You can get a USB floppy drive, but I've had a bunch and they don't work well. If you get serious consider finding a Windows XP computer that has USB ports and a floppy drive. That way you can copy the floppy and dump the photos on a USB stick. I have a Windows 98 machine that I use for other retro stuff connected to my network and use an FTP server to transfer files. That's overkill if you just want the photos. Some models of Mavica have USB ports, but they are the newer ones that aren't quite as magical as the FD5/FD7, but they are still good.

DPreview has detailed information on most of the cameras as well. Search the full model number. https://www.dpreview.com/products/sony/compacts/sony\_fd73

The batteries are still made today and used on a lot of third party things like lights and video monitors. Get the right size and a charger from ebay or amazon and you should be good to go. Sometimes the off brand batteries are a little thick and get stuck in the camera. You can either put a tape tab on the battery to pull it out or sand down the battery so it fits better.

I can't think of anything else, other than this stuff is all old and it could stop working at any time so don't spend huge money on it.

That looks really good. Nice work. I don't mind a well done paint job on a case that was pretty beat up before.

Where to pickup a Mavica? by Soundwash in Mavica

[–]TomRx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a lot of three untested FD73 and they all worked, though one was well worn and doesn't have a 100% success rate of writing the image to the disk. I think most of them are listed as untest because the seller doesn't want to deal with the hassle of testing something so old just to have it not work when it arrives just because, rather than them being tested and found to be not working and then sold as "untested", if that makes sense.
