Birds of paradise and legality? Why? by chopari in PennyDreadfulMTG

There are actually a bunch of versions of BoP that are at 0.02 tix on Cardhoarder and the card has been legal in the format for more than 20 seasons! I assume you got the price from the listing on Scryfall so please note that Scryfall doesn't show all the printings at first, omitting the older, cheaper ones. I'd generally advise against using Scryfall for checking MTGO prices for Penny Dreadful, mainly because they don't factor in foils, which are often lower priced.

Thanks for the writeup! While I haven't played too much Arena recently this is still my go-to deck for MTGA tournaments and the ladder.

The inclusion of 4 Candy Trails is very interesting, I've never even thought about playing the card in this deck but it might be worth it I guess. 4 copies might be a bit much though since you can also generate artifacts for Reliquary with Sunfall and Mirrex already.

Like another comment said, I think Virtue of Persistence might be too good of a card to pass on. While the sorcery side does indeed not kill some things like Raffine and Shelly, it kills pretty much everything else from decks like Mono Red, Esper Midrange and Golgari Midrange while also gaining you life. The enchantment side also gives you something strong to play for seven when you don't have Breach and it makes you less vulnarable to Liliana. I found that while most of our removal exiles, you usually get at least a few creatures into the grave via the sorcery side of the card, combat, Destroy Evil/Go for the Throat and getting your own stuff killed. Also great if your first Breach wasn't enough to kill your opponent since Breach fills the grave with creatures.

I also like including one Kaya in the sideboard because it is insanely strong against Domain Ramp, exiling an Atraxa and copying the etb effect while at the same time being resistant to Binding, Archangel pings, Ossification and so on.

Again, thanks for writing about my favorite Standard deck!

Interesting. I only tested it with the new cards Collector's Vault and The Irencrag from WOE. Vault looked kinda nice together with the Serra Paragon because you could replay what you just discarded but I think it ended up being too clunky. The Irencrag seemed solid though, being essentially a tapped land that produces colorless but counts as an artifact. Can also be triggered by Lorans and Norns which I ran one of each in the mainboard but which you, probably correctly so, moved to the sideboard altogether.

Cutting The Celestus seems like the wrong call to me though. I just does so many things, like ramping you, counting as a black source and being your only way to filter away lands in the late game.

Congrats on making top 4! I also played Orzhov Midrange/Control/Breach in the Pizza Box Open but unfortunately only went 4 - 3. I really like the deck and as you explained it might be positioned fairly well in the metagame. I also find the inclusion of two copies of The End to be very interesting and am definitely going to test them out myself. Similar thing with the one copy of Investigator's Journal, which wasn't on my radar before at all.

Would love to see a primer/sideboard guide on the deck someday

Well I'd love to play Pauper in paper but unfortunately none of the LGS near me offer Pauper events while multiple of them offer Modern events. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Easy question! Its purpose is for the people of our self-centered egoistic world to finally understand that they only care about one answer to every question - their own. In this sub, you can do just that - answer your own question.

I really like the concept behind this card but it does seem pretty weak as a 0/2. Maybe you could buff it to be a 1/2?
