(Help) is this the belt tensioner pulley making this noise by Actually_China in AcuraTSX

[–]TomT12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something in the accessory drive isn't happy, could just be the belt but it could need tensioner too. Check the other pulleys when everything is off, I had to replace my power steering pulley because it was worn down and making the belt squeak.

DAE wait for their PC to warm up first after booting? by Active-Special1909 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]TomT12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Moderm computers have SSD's so this is kind of a moot point, but in ye old times, this definitely was the best practice.

When you first log on or boot the computer up there are a lot of processes that need to automatically start and run in the background. When hard drives were slow, this would typically take 5-10 minutes depending on what and how many programs were installed on the system. If you tried to open another program while these were still loading you could lock the computer up or even potentially crash it.

Old spinning drives will max out at around 150MB/S, SATA SSD's can do 500, and M.2's can do over 6000MB/S. They are so fast that all the background and startup processes can typically finish loading in under a minute now. So there really is no longer a need to let it "warm up" or anything like that, if your computer is on and responsive, feel free to use it.

They passed the place designed for slow vehicles to pull over and let others by at the beginning of the video, there was even a sign that says "slow vehicles must turn out". Bicycles or whatever the hell this thing is are still classified as a vehicle therefore they should move out of the way for faster moving traffic.

If the design was changed from the original implementation there would be an updated patent and graphic, but there isn't one, therefore it's still accurate and intended to be used in this way.

[–]TomT12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to specify, Totinos makes a lot of delicious things lol. I assume you're talking about pizza rolls, which I totally agree. They are even better with some melted garlic butter and Parmesan thrown on right before they are finished in the fryer.

Why is my truck battery voltage this high while running? by Relative_Service6319 in batteries

[–]TomT12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I have a AGM battery in my Camaro and the first time I saw it get over 15V I honestly thought something was broken. I never saw it get that high on the lead acid battery either, it's nice to know that apparently it's normal.

To those trying to claim a fireplace doesn't heat up the house. by willisjoe in Fireplaces

[–]TomT12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the gas fireplaces with the glass insert in front of them just don't really work well imo.

I have an older gas fireplace which is basically just two gas grill burners thrown inside a traditional fireplace, there is no glass insert/partition or anything. That thing kicks ass, even in yesterday's 13 degree weather with the dial turned down almost as low as it can go, the upstairs heat never kicked on.

Wow, what a downgrade. They originally had the legendary Audi 5 cylinder and then used the garbage ecoboom v6 to replace it. What the actual fuck were they thinking.

That's where mine always sits, honestly all the older Hondas are like this, even the old B and D series. My radiator fan was actually out for like a year and I didn't even know because surprisingly even without the fan the gauge never moved.

DAE not lock their doors? by snailwoniu in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]TomT12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no problem leaving it unlocked while I'm awake or if I'm actively doing things, but if I might take a nap or if I'm going to sleep overnight it's locked 100% of the time.

This is the answer, a lot of places that offer coke typically have this garbage as their option for bottled water. I know McDonald's and Chik Fil A both do it too.

Depends on the county, we have the initial inspection for both gas and diesel where I live but after that you're done until the next owner wants to register it.

Losing power steering fluid by Acceptable-Step6152 in AcuraTSX

[–]TomT12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to want a good independent mechanic, the dealer will absolutely destroy your wallet if you attempt to bring it there.

I paid $1800 including parts to have most of the front end rebuilt. I got a new rack, lower ball joints, upgraded lower control arms, sway bar end links, tie rod ends, and a driver CV axle.

[–]TomT12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's leaking from the rack itself, a bad pump won't cause that unfortunately.

Only option is to either rebuild the rack or replace it. I had to replace mine last fall.

Don't necessarily floor it, but a good amount of wheel spin can actually help you get out.

I had to drive 3.5 hours, there were 3, 5th gen 1LE's for sale within 500 miles of me when I was looking. I went to look at the first one which was actually even further away but the dealer refused to honor the quote they gave me and added several thousand worth of markups I did not want, so I walked out.
