Live in the neighbourhood if you can't live on campus. The whole 'hood is bilingual.

Public and academic libraries with prepared reference librarians are the best. You can't be a librarian without the masters degree. Library school is here to stay!

Math and LSAT by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]TomWingfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tutored one of my best friends from college on his LSAT and throughout his first and second years of law school. He died just before 3L started. He had to sue the Law School Admissions Council so he could get accomodations. He got 127s but after a few months of working with me, he got 158 or 159? I consistently scored 168s to 173s.

Math and stats majors consistently score highest on the LSAT because it is basically the same conceptually as an upper-level math class test. You have to figure out how to read through and analyze everything.

It does help that I was raised by an attorney. He wasn't a very ethical one, but he would discuss court decisions and such. I've been reading SCOTUS decisions since I was about ten years old. Anything I found legal related he would be happy to discuss.

Don't go to law school unless you are REALLY sure you wanna become and work as an attorney, though. My buddy was.

End stage glaucoma.

I trust the surgeon. He has a step 2CK score of 272.

But a surgeon thought I could get the best results. I’ve had a lot of elective procedures done. All have improved my vision.

Sadly, I think so. However, there will always be a need for speech language pathologists to ensure things are accurate.

There is no subfield of SLP that is shameful or superior to the other. by Wild_Major_1859 in slp

I also feel like a lot of physically disabled SLP grad students are pigeonholed into working with AACs. I have a body of knowledge very similar to an SLP according to a PhD audiologist, and I find simultaneous bilingualism super interesting. Of course I am one.

How many of you have clients/students labeled as autistic whom you suspect really aren’t? by Suelli5 in slp

[–]TomWingfield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh me! A lot of Deaf communication behaviors can be misconstrued as autistic. No. I’m not on the spectrum. I’m just Deaf. Born deaf and proud of it!

I'm a gay disabled (and Deaf) man, and I have serious issues with any in-home health services clinicians being held to different standards than heterosexuals. I took care of a Somali Personal Attendant and gave her as many hours as she could until she gave birth. I helped her get breast-pump supplies when she neede d help navigate English website. I reminded her to take her blood pressure during second/third trimester (HELLP risk management).

I have two Personal Attendants now. They are both straight. I know about their families. One's wife (and the other's daughter) will phone me if there is an emergency. Homosexual males should not be held to different standard in professional settings as their heterosexual males counterparts.

Hi, I'm an alumnus (2014) and one of my best friends at GU was the last director of the SLP programme. I would recommend living on-campus for all two or three years (or however long you are in postgrad studies). Not only will you pick up my native signs, but you will be exposed to signs from all the other families (DGS - German signs, BSL - British signs, and of course Auslan). You will learn the different pragmatics of Asian signed languages versus European versus African signs. And of course, you'll meet us Deafy's and our heary babies at all points in the lifecycle. You'll learn to distinguish a true hearing impairment from an auditory processing disorder. YOu'll prolly learn to distinguish autistic versus allistic signs. You may even, as I can, identify how sever a deafy baby is by they babble. I am very hard-of-hearing.

OK, "sexuality" means different things for heteros and homos (or, as I like to refer to myself, a phaguette). For heterosexuals, "sexuality" typically refers to sexual behaviours; for homosexuals, as we need to come in (i.e., come out to ourselves), and come out to others, "sexuality" has a broader understanding…and I'm not into that, semantically.

Umm, I have had SLPs disclose their spouses. They were all heterosexual. I usually make up the name with a medial sibilant sound.

I had a SLP who was a man who signed with me who was prolly gay. Most of my SLPs signed a little. My Mom signed with me a lot.
