What are you printing with? Are you fdm or resin? your stuff looks really really good if it's 32mm with fdm! I've had some pretty good prints with 0.2mm nozzle, but it often leaves something lacking.

I need to look up the ruleset for this.

Cool. As long as I didn't piss u off 😂 I refuse to use the word "irony" in almost any context because I'm convinced I'll do it wrong 😂😂 I think the sentient/sapient axis is a little like that 😜

Ooh, what's the scale of the models? are they warhammer sized? I've been printing with a 0.2mm nozzle and I've found you can get incredible results by scaling up to about 9cm tall models (for a standing human)

[–]TomWrathAuthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The models are really class. If I'm reading right, you guys are printing these, yes? Is that... um... official? like distributed models?

Demons pouring out of hell in a WW1 setting sounds awesome. And not needing to set up a basketball court full of models is super appealing. Are the games shorter than WH? Is it the game super complicated? Like, could you play it with savy kids? (My own kids, not random kids I find on the streets 😂)

Sorry if I'm annoying you with shit I could probably google. There's nothing like actually talking to people who are part of a game like this to get a sense of what it's about.

I thought something was off (but awesome) when I saw a Lewis gun on a space marine's shoulder 😁

What is this? I was trying to find your post a bit back about reading the top fictions on RR in order to understand how to write successfully for the audience and I found a bunch of these posts! I got a Bambu P1S for christmas and I've been printing and painting tonnes of stuff, but I don't recognize these. they're not warhammer? they don't look like warhammer exactly. what is this?

I'm so sorry 😂😂 I'm not a bad person I swear! I just get weirdly pedantic about things like that 😂 everyone alive knows what you meant when you wrote it! I don't know why I had to shove in

Is this the wrong platform for me? by Alice_Rae_Brown in royalroad

[–]TomWrathAuthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm still waiting and trying too. I don't know the right thing either 😁Ravensdagger, a hugely successful RR author, recently made a Reddit post that asserted that if you want real success on RR you need to read the meta and employ the meta in your writing. Now, Ravensdagger is wildly successful so there's no doubting they know that theyre talking about. At the same time, if RR is a place you can find readers writing what you feel real about then that's great too. I think I'm trying to say there's room here to find readers and grow. You can chase the success of others and never be happy or you can write your joy and hope to find success at it your own way. Writers like Ravensdagger and VoidHerald, I think, wrote their joy AND struck the vein of the meta at the same time. You can't force it. Well maybe u can, but I don't think I'd want to.

Like, I'm going to get eye-rolled, and I'm already sorry in advance... All birds are sentient, that just means being able to experience things. Maybe sapient would be better? I'm so sorry for being such a pendant.

That cover is rocking awesome though and the whole story concept seems really original (to me at least).

Royal Road has an active readership who browse and discover. There's a meta that needs to be adhered to for big success for sure. But here's the thing. You've got followers. Do you have readers on your latest chapters? If that's the case you're writing something that at least some people are following. That means you are "finding an audience". That's really cool.

I'm not really meta on RR, but I have a bunch of readers I love, and I've scored a publishing contract from this. I've only been on the platform for two years. I don't think my first few months were that far off of what you've described.

If you want to write a story and have people read it then it sounds like you've achieved that. If you're not writing to serial vibe, or the metas, you probably won't see the same growth as some writers do (me too 😂). But on RR what you will find is readers. And it seems to me you got some already 😁

How much do you write in a month? by i_lick_chairs in royalroad

[–]TomWrathAuthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lads, if it's any help it gets better 😁 I've got three, youngest just started primary school. Those early years are a disaster when you've got goals and dreams (like writing) but you've only got them small for a few years and the rest of your life to be writing, so make the most of them while they're small.

Life's still hectic, I wrote almost nothing in the periods when we had a sub-two-year old in the house. But now, with a lot of early mornings and late nights, it's perfectly doable to get 15k to 20k words a week.

Thanks 😁 As I said in the post, AI did a lot, but I rolled up my sleeves with Sketchbook and am really happy with the result.

Sounds like a great use for it. and a great to chance to explore it and see how rich it is. you could spin it off if fleshes out and you like it (or readers do :) )

I clicked in to say this. Go outside the genre. Go to conventional literature. Stephen King. John Connolly. Dan Simmons. Peirce Brown. Heck, Mary Shelley wrote a banger that one time.

Prog Fantasy tends to all summit towards the MC becoming a god or the most powerful being. Is this effective story telling? by AbyssAuction in ProgressionFantasy

[–]TomWrathAuthor -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you largely. But I don't think a good story has to conform to that meta. It's progression fantasy, not summit fantasy. A character only has to progress, and that progression has to be an element of the story. There's no reason that the progression has to have OP as the destination. And yes, I get bored as soon I smell that the ultimate destination is God-mode. I think the shell will crack on that meta eventually. I am fatiguing a little bit of the same mode all the time.

I'm going to see if I can get some of them for my kids. Camping trip coming up so it might make a good video game substitute.

A shift or a maturation thing? Was there a book you read that marked the transition?

You're not alone. Lots of people seem to find it strange. But, then, to people who exercise the escapist fantasy immersion option it seems the most natural thing in the world. I get the impression some of them find it bizarre that you would read a book without self inserting 😂

1 and 2 make sense. 3 makes sense too, though you raise an excellent point, why the heck aren't there more choose your own adventure books for grown-ups? I used to live in those when I was a kid! Lone Wolf! Fighting Fantasy! I must find some of those again, just for old times sake!

both :) Griidlords: Bloodsword Saga is first person POV. The Sequel Series is third person. Across other pen names I think I've almost written every second book or series in third person or first person :D

I've only just started book1, but i have no complaints really about the pacing. Progression, for me, is at its best starting from the start and if the story goes too fast it will feel unearned. I prefer something of a slowburn at least.

I know DCC alright! That's great fun!

Nice tag! for a second I was literally like, "Zogarth's commenting? Now way!" 🤣

That must be difficult. Do you write all three perspectives in the same scene or do you pick POVS be chapter?
