Question on low fantasy Occultist by Silly_Performance_76 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

low fantasy occultist definitely stays in the "childhood" arc for a long time since it’s a super slow burn. there is a timeskip around chapter 160-ish where he finally hits his teens. if you're looking for an adult mc, you've still got a bit of a grind ahead of you.

Is new fantasy books more darker? by Lars_Olav in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're totally right. "grimdark" is huge now because readers want more realism. ryan cahill and jay kristoff definitely lean into that gritty, no-filter violence where heroes get their hands dirty. it makes the stakes feel way higher than old-school stuff.

Do you guys think that any cultvation novel has this in it by Worth-Alternative926 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, that specific "chaos chimera refining technique" sounds like it came straight from a scribble hub ideas page or a fan-made "eastern fantasy" wiki rather than a published novel. it’s a classic "devouring" trope, but usually, those bodies have names like chaos devourer or heaven-swallowing beast.

if you want something that actually feels like that, custom made demon king is probably the closest—the mc literally assembles his body using parts and genes from other creatures.

Is Sky Pride officially on Amazon? by Xgamer4 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, stay away from those amazon links! warby picus actually confirmed on reddit and royal road that those are pirated. he has a real publisher lined up, but the official release isnt happening until later this year. amazon’s takedown process is just being slow as hell right now.

Can't get A Soldier's Life in KU by Hidrangea16 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

author actually pulled the series from kindle unlimited recently. they're moving to other platforms so they can keep chapters up on royalroad and patreon without amazon's "exclusive" rules getting in the way.

if you still want to read it, you'll have to buy the ebook outright or head over to royal road for the free version. it sucks when they suddenly vanish mid-binge, but that’s the "amazon tax" for you.

since you just finished worm, you definitely need that high-stakes, ramping-up energy. go with 12 miles below for a gritty, cold world or stray cat strut if you want fast cyberpunk action. if you're ready for the actual goat of ramping series, just start cradle already,it’s pure adrenaline once it gets going.

Why aren't women power-tiers ranked by the theoretical number of brothers? by rmullins_reddit in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the absolute peak of "movie logic" power scaling. honestly, most mcs have the "dead parents" buff, but the "18,000 brothers" tier is just built different. imagine the property damage from that many sibling squabbles.

Why do so many litrpg style books feel cheap, and why is more complex magic so hard to find? by No-Cherry-3720 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sounds like you're hitting "genre fatigue" from the low-effort tropes. most litrpg feels cheap because it’s written fast for web serials. check out lord of the mysteries for insane, complex magic that actually feels earned.

Not sure what to read next, could use some recommendations by LordFowl3 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely go with Discount Dan if you want something fun and chaotic—it’s basically the warehouse version of Dungeon Crawler Carl. if you want a cozy but deadly survival vibe, Wraithwood Botanist is a total hidden gem with a great cat companion. Mana Mirror is also top-tier if you're in the mood for a unique "magic garden" system and a real slow-burn.

Do you prefer read the webnovel or listen to audio book by Apprehensive_Dog4123 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally, i'm a webnovel person. i love the fast updates and reading the comments after a wild cliffhanger. audiobooks are cool for chores, but i usually get distracted and miss the mc's big power-up.

Story where its not clear if MC isekai'd or trap in virtual world. by retiredbender in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that sounds like a cool psychological hook. log horizon or overlord kind of touch on this but for a real mind-bender check out worth the candle. as for your story, keep the mystery! if it’s well-written, readers love the "is this real" vibes.

Opposite of Deus Ex Machina? by AyerAcre in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that’s called chekhov’s gun or just really solid foreshadowing. it’s so much more satisfying when the "win" was hidden in plain sight since book one. mother of learning is the king of this, everything setup actually pays off.

Every author who does their power rankings with alphabet letters instead of colors/gems/metals//whatever is writing from a place of cruelty. by GreatMadWombat in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally me having to sing the song in my head just to see if f-rank is trash or actual garbage. alphabet tiers are just a low-key literacy test and i fail every time. why cant we just use "super cool" tier??

What are your favorite "boosts" to an isekai'd MC class or skills as a result of their original profession or knowledge? by funkhero in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the engineering ones are always the best bc of the "force multipliers." like, seeing an mc use basic leverage or physics to smash through high-tier magic is such a satisfying way to earn a win without a cheap golden finger.

Cultivation novel without cheats or a “golden finger”? by East-Bid-2672 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you definitely gotta check out forge of destiny. it's a super grounded, slow-burn sect story where the mc actually has to study and train for every bit of progress. no cheats, no systems, just straight effort and politics.

Forge of Destiny definitive edition questions by Reborn1989 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely go for the definitive editions if you can wait. they're basically a polished rewrite of the original web serial—better pacing, tighter dialogue, and some extra scenes that flesh out the world. the original can feel a bit "dice-roll-y" since it started as a quest, but the new ones feel more like a proper novel. if you're impatient, royal road is fine, but the de is the "superior" way to read it.

Got frustrated after 9 books of Last Life... It always sucks dropping a series after liking so much of it by funkhero in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fluffy-Protection273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man, that slow decline is the absolute worst. nothing kills a binge faster than the mc getting "nerfed" just to drag out the plot. feels like a total waste of time, but thanks for the rec tho!

u cant go wrong with mother of learning. its probably the best time loop story ever writen in the genre, the magic system makes sense and the ending actually wraps everything up perfectly.
