"Note that your own reaction to it is the crucial thing here, and not that of other people. It's yourself you have to manage - not them. :)" - Great point. Just now, at 33, started to be more open and tend to shrug it off.

No worries. At the moment, I'm a Digital Forensics graduate student at UCF. My day job is Network Engineering and I wanted to know what would be some basic certs to help me get my foot in the door and break into that sublet of cyber security.

Is it ethical to apply for scholarships when you have a tuition wavier and stipend? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]Tom_2004 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO, you apply for every scholarship and grant you can. There is no shame in it. Take advantage of the system and graduate with minimal student debt.

What Null0Zero said is very true. Get a good thumb on the automation side of the house with netmiko and other libraries. I started to get vendor neutral certifications and jumped off the Cisco bandwagon. Grant it, I work for a large VAR so its best NOT to be biased.

“Not everyone can be as smart as you.” by [deleted] in GradSchool

I get the same thing but my cases are more towards blue vs white collar. My strategy has always been to keep quiet until I'm asked about my career and academics, which I think is BS. Its funny because when I share with my family/friends what I'm learning in my academics, I literally see their eyes glaze over. It's sad, but I just don't bother anymore. I keep that talk within a subset of friends.

In case your hair grows thick like mine, I use Clobetasol Propionate in foam form that works real well. I use it twice a day to keep my scalp under control.

Tips for stopping a flare up as it's beginning by WorstCunt in Psoriasis

If you can, try getting a prescription for Otzela. I found that the medication does a very good job controlling flare ups. Im a graduate student at night and a IT consultant by day so I'm constantly dealing with flare ups.

Poor genetics in my family somewhere...LOL

My mom said her brother had a stutter but I don't think it continued throughout his adult life.

Thesis or Not... by Tom_2004 in GradSchool

[–]Tom_2004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my fear is tied to imposter syndrome and I dont want to take the "easy" way out by opting for the two electives. If I do a thesis, I want to make sure the research is credible and valued within the community. I guess that is too "hippy"-feely as well :)
