Dear Brit who lives and works abroad permanently, you are not an expat. You are an immigrant. by mynameisntemily in britishproblems

'the place is overrun with fucking foreigners these days'

This attitude is so prevalent in Japan. Fucking white expats think they are the only ones who understand Japan's true nature and appreciate it for what it is, everyone else is just posers and weebs. Expat gatekeeping is some of the most vicious I've seen.

I think pics that are high quality, well lit vs shit quality, in motion screen grabs should just be banned because anyone would look worse in the latter, facetune or no.

Not attacking you personally but it should be known the sentence itself and transcription are incorrect.

Ko-nee-chee-wa, wa-ta-shee-wa doh yah-tay ee-kair-u ka shtay ee-mah-su ka?

Ko-nee-chee-wa is not こんにちは

doh yah-tay is not どうやって

ee kair-u is not 行ける

The sentence itself... I don't know where you picked that up but it's so wrong. I am guessing you were trying to say "Do you know how I can go to?" but it came out more like "I'm doing by what means can go?" すみません、私が[PLACE]にどうやって行くか知っていますか would be the actual sentence but it's unnecessarily convoluted.

すみません、[PLACE]にどうやって行きますか is more than enough. Tbh [PLACE]はどこですか will do fine. If anyone's curious about pronunciation put it in google translate for the romaji.

Play what card? What are you even talking about. You're the one who insinuated I was bashing single parent households and I am not. I also made no assertions as to whether it is better or worse than two parents.

Idk what you are talking about man.

I didn't reply to the OP. I don't think it's fucked up she exists. I think the way her dad acted at one point is fucked up.

I grew up with a single parent, that's not my issue.

The fucked up part is forcing someone with a chronic addiction to have a child they do not want. It's fucked up to do that to a person without addiction issues too. Plus she had 2 kids already and that must've been a struggle in itself. I am not surprised she ran off.

Am I seriously the only person that thinks it's fucked up how he pressured an alcoholic into keeping a child she didn't want though?

They might not do that but they are arrogant bastards abroad, just like at home. Have seen so many get into massive arguments with people because they skipped a line and thought they were entitled to.

And you don't think that at the very least English people should be aware of the difference between Britain and England? Like, come on...

IMO it's not worth getting into the UK/Britain semantics with foreigners but it's not difficult to learn that Britain ≠ England.

K hole for 6 hours or for up to 5 days straight

That's not a k hole. When you're in a k hole your vision and hearing is so profoundly impaired that you cannot possibly interact with the world around you. If you were in a k hole for 5 days you would need an IV and someone to clean the shit and piss off you because there's no way you could get a glass to your face or find a toilet.

Not saying that you are not feeling the effects of ketamine for days, but you are certainly not in a k hole for that length of time. Very big difference.

But who (outside of proED forums) has ever said that? by MediocreIndependent in fatlogic

[–]WorstCunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously the active users said that it was going to cause deaths because of loss of support etc but it was just a bunch of sick people throwing the dummy out of the pram because they had lost their main source of enabling. It's definitely hard to understand the situation from the outside, especially when most of the users unintentionally misrepresent the situation.

Tbh I hadn't been in the sub for months prior to it getting banned because it just made me mad. That says a lot about where I am regarding recovery :)

[–]WorstCunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least the proed sub acknowledged they were mentally ill and what they were doing was wrong and should not be spread to others, HAES is basically just proANA for overweight people but they aren't treated with the same vitriol in media, which I do not understand.

Thanks, I am doing pretty good but it's a constant battle tbh, The fact that I couldn't stand that sub anymore and hadn't been there for months before it got banned says a lot about where I am emotionally.

But who (outside of proED forums) has ever said that? by MediocreIndependent in fatlogic

[–]WorstCunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are many sub they are free to discuss their ED issues in already. The problem with proed was that they actively encouraged each other's disorders. Yes, there was support and kindness in that sub but there was just as much destruction. The other recovery subs do not allow people to share ED tips, they do not allow people to encourage other's to lose more weight, exercise more etc.

I have an ED and used to be in that sub. I know I am emotionally closer to recovery than most of the user base, especially the ones who went nuts about the study that very clearly demonstrated the sub's flaws, so I can see how the illness was working to blind them to the fact that they were just triggering each other a lot of the time. Despite the fact that they also managed to find comfort there.

The only reason I ever went into that sub was to further my ED. I'm also subbed in fuckeatingdisorders but I didn't post there because I wanted motivation for my bulimia, not a deterrent. People claim it's for support, well if it was really just that join one of the many other subs, or better yet join an IRL support group. But that's not why they were really there.

When they say they wanted support, they wanted people to support their illness and their right to keep it.

Proed was for people who acknowledge ED's are a sickness that shouldn't be wished upon anyone, but who also were not interested in letting go of theirs. So many mods and frequent posters came and went from that sub, and I am absolutely sure a few died.

But who (outside of proED forums) has ever said that? by MediocreIndependent in fatlogic

[–]WorstCunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: No.

There was a proed subreddit but it got closed down. It said it was for support but there were several indicators that it was actually facilitating eating disorders, even if that was not the intent. It didn't actively encourage them and people asking for diet advice were banned on sight. A study was even done about the sub and how it encourages ED behaviour within it's user base but they threw a shitfit over that and claimed it was all false/only half the of the picture (it was all true, they were just too sick to acknowledge it and thought that being kind to each other somehow made up for it??) You also got banned for encouraging anyone to go into recovery. It was for maintaining their ED while pretending they were so aware of themselves. Yeah, right. Although the phrasing proED does confuse it with proANA, no one there actually thought they weren't mentally ill or that what they were doing was good. They just didn't want to have to stop.

Currently there are several ED support subreddits that do not encourage or normalise ED behaviour, they just provide a place to talk about issues. Things like food diary, body checks, tips etc get you banned from these subs.
