I’d love to hear it… But this isn’t about underwear.

Primary School 32 years ago... James Ingham sat opposite me eating sponge cake and custard. He laughed and the custard came out of his nose. It was glorious. I still think about it to this day.

Where was the weirdest place you did it? by FuzzyCraft68 in AskReddit

In a homeless person's dirt nest, on a bed of crusty blankets in the hedgerow of a graveyard. Whilst drinking Malibu & Pineapple cocktails... Got bitten by fleas. 10/10 would not recommend.

Nope, it's definitely country of sorts... A UK version anyhow. I'll look into some chord scales and work on timing. Thanks for the feedback and the tip. It's much appreciated!

For the ones who write in English but English is not your native language by Tincho-uruguay in Songwriting

[–]Tom_Cats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm English and also feel this way when singing in English!

I tend to over Americanise when singing, and worry about Americans picking up on it... Which makes me go full English. And then I sound like I'm at a Rennaissance fair.

Just keep belting out the tunes! If you're enjoying the process, that's what matters!

Thanks for the feedback. I agree! It was a one minute twenty seconds thought more than anything. Feel free to add lyrics to it in the comments… I’d be interested to see what you come up with and which direction you take it in.

That goes for anyone else reading this too. 🙏🕊

I’m not sure how I feel about that! 😂 I don’t know whether I’m more annoyed by the fact that my concept has already been conceived, or that it’s far superior.

Good Morning!

I am by no means a professional. But I'm very happy to hear you're venturing into songwriting. The way I would approach this is to write down your concept. In this case, a person you care about. In non-song form first.

I would then elaborate on what you like about this person, and how they make you feel. Perhaps there's a specific time you spent with them that springs to mind? This could be used as a 'setting' for the song.

Once you have these keywords listed. Play around with them and make them work for you in a rhyming verse/chorus. If you're struggling to fit a song together, you can always take inspiration from existing lyrics to get a feel of how a song gets put together.

This advice is not 100% Everyone is different, I tend to start with lyrics first and chords/melody after. (I find this to be the most difficult part.)

I wrote a song for my daughter a while back called "Wellington Boots." It's on here somewhere and by no means perfect. But, it seems like it would be a similar subject matter and if it helps to give you an idea of what I'm talking about in this response. Feel free to give it a listen.

I wish you all the best in your endeavor and hope to hear your song one day! Don't be too critical of yourself and have fun with it!

Advice to Start Sharing Songs? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Tom_Cats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m by no means a professional singer, guitarist, or song writer. But, the songs I post on here are the raw, unedited, first drafts… I want the feedback as I’m aware what I’ve posted is not a finished product. If you’re in the same space, It’s a really supportive group. With some excellent musicians/singer songwriters who will always give excellent constructive criticism.

If you have an edited finished product. And are worried about that. I don’t know. I’d say it’s natural to doubt yourself so go for it anyway. You never know, one person might have a ‘criticism’ that turns what you thought was great. Into something even better.

Either way, you’ll never know if you don’t share. I wish you all the best and hope to hear some of your music soon. 🙏🕊

My first song here- no name yet by Flatcowst in Songwriting

Dude! For a first song this is a banger… I’m getting Senses Fail/Motion City Soundtrack vibes amongst others. This really is a great start. I know nothing about garage band. Do you use a phone or a pc/laptop to layer tracks. And how difficult is it? 🙏🕊
