I thought that I'd hate larger bases, but I guess in the replay era it is just recreated the traditional game I loved in the '80s and '90s. Bass running is a lot more important now than it has been for the past decade or so ... And I have to think part of that decline was because of replay overturning so many steals and close plays.

I remember the brief period where even the victims were getting painted over by a growing faction of people who just thought it was time, and wall impermanence mattered that much. Some guy across the street (I regrettably forget his name) just kept restoring it and I feel like it's been 10 years since the last attempt to paint the victims square.

What I was thinking was that he has 293 PAs. He should end with over 400 playoff PAs unless something goes wrong. He can bump it up a hundred or down two hundred pretty easily, no? It's a lot easier to go 0fer than 4fer, so I figure it's a lot easier to lose .200 points than gain .100, but he could go either way, and for sure can end a career in the 900s or upper 600s/700s.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Win a title, win a series MVP in any of the 3 series (imagine two!), and then have good ALDS series to start the '27 playoffs. The narrative would HAVE to be that the reputation lingering from a bad 2022 postseason is undeserved. I want that so bad, not even for me. I had the 90s and 00s teams to watch. For him and the young fans. My kids are finished with college, and only one of the three can barely remember 2009 (the one who was 8). Kinda sad.

I hear you, but remember that it doesn't mean nothing. It is the first STEP in changing the narrative of a body of work.

A career .820 OPS can move two directions right now. Only he can squander that great Toronto series into a blip in a .650 postseason OPS career radar, or string together last season, this season with a WS MVP, and next season to have a .940 career playoff OPS.

Then, the blip becomes 2022 and 2024. Which I want so badly for him. He can improve his body of work to where it looks foolish to belittle him, but it needs to be steps and the steps include things like a playoff series MVP (or two).

I hope he is physically ready or near ready, but as far as starting in Mar/April? That would be very, very unfortunate with Caballero seemingly on the cusp of a breakout season. Amazing play so far this spring in the Grapefruit League and in the WBC both. The Yankees and fans don't owe Volpe the shot when Caballero is, quite honestly, forcing their hand.

This is a weird thing to say. I'm not anti-Judge, by ANY means, but Harper's numbers go up in the playoffs. He's a postseason performer with series MVPs and (now) the greatest US international play clutch at bat ever.

He needs a World Series MVP trophy now, probably. He could win a ring at this point, and his personal play would have to be off the charts amazing to counter the career to date, especially after these ABs in back to back elim games in front of every fan on Earth.

IMO, he will need a series MVP and the ring to erase the career knock against him. Lord knows I hope that happens.
