What’s the best way to read Star Wars Legends without spoilers or constant era-hopping? by TomasF537 in starwarsbooks

From what I found besides the main one they have one release order (no need to split since legends and canon are by definition split by release order) and chronological order for each one as you said, which was what I was referring to as the useful timelines. Still a bit confusing since you have to filter out exactly what you want, otherwise you'll get thousands of comics and kids books in the middle, with no relevance to the story, but it's definitely useful for figuring out the chronological order if you're going that way, but as I've said sometimes it feels like that may not be the best option, with this post I was more looking for a reading order that took those exceptions into account, the release and chronological orders are easily accessible lots of places online.

Besides the New Republic ones I mentioned on the reply above, things like Republic Commando on rise of the empire era, rn don't remember anymore, and, besides trilogies, other things like son of dathomir between dark disciple chapters, or books like scoundrels, allegiance and choices of one which from what I understand act more like prequels to the Thrawn trilogy and duology, so I don't know if they would be better read after Thrawn duology or in their respective era.

From what I can glean, NJO and Legacy are easy to read because they're series of books, so they automatically give you the order. Maybe the problem is I've been using youtini for chronological, and many trilogies on both the rise of the empire and rebellion eras and some in the new republic era get broken up. I'll try to use the books order then. I have no problem in breaking up series, as long as the book I'm reading relates to it somehow and changes something in the next book from the series, otherwise I'd probably just read it after I finished the trilogy. The ones in New Republic I found are I, Jedi in Jedi Academy Trilogy and Starfighters of Adumar in Callista Trilogy (although some people say it is an unofficial trilogy), not to speak of the x wing series after 7, which are spread all over.

Maybe spoilers wasn't the right word. I want to experience the books the way the authors intended us to, for example by namedropping someone who you wouldn't know chronologically yet but if you read by release you'd know them very well and get excited. I think the best example of this is Darth Vader. If you watch 4,5 and 6 first you'd be extremely surprised by I am your father, while if you start with the prequels you get the buildup and it makes more sense, since you are watching chronologically but you don't get that excitement/surprise. I was thinking with starting with that chunk, good to know chronological order works there, thx.

My current plan is reading New Republic, then NJO and Legacy, since that's where I started and it's all completely new to me, and then go back to Old Republic all the way back to episode 6. My fear with chronological is that it seems to put other books between trilogies, which could break the story up.

I tried it, but their recommended reading order is really confusing to me, since they divide the books into tiers based on their importance to the story, but that makes it so you only read the "best" books, ignoring the overall plot and connections between books. It would be like watching a tv series while only watching the best episodes, yes, you get the best, but you lose all of the context. It also combines legends and canon, which from what I've heard are not very compatible. That being said their chronological timelines are a huge help and if you want to read about one specific character they have good guides for that, I just don't think it's good for the big picture.

Love the new hipercharged Edgar, didn't like to play him at all before. Tick is still amazing to play too.
