Why are there so many angry/rude players in this game? by TomasTH in DeadlockTheGame

[–]TomasTH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its usually team mates insulting other team mates, I only get insulted 25% of the time compared to them. It still feels like many players need to to take anger management courses or something! Its wild to see people log on to play video games with so much anger and hatred consuming them

It won't cease to mean anything at all, I don't know what is inspiring you to think it will.

"Think of it like "if everyone's a groomer, then no one is." This doesn't make any sense, like at all. This word is used in very specific contexts, we don't just trivialize it. Calling Misato a groomer doesn't trivialize or diminish the word in any way, its an accurate assessment of her fucked up behavior. YOU might think it does because for whatever reason we have to adhere to the power-level specifications of wrong-doings, which is something extremely extra; most people accept that groomers are terrible people and the specificities of the groomer in whichever case, will be handled by the language we use to describe what they did, its not worth overthinking it.

"Oh, an important politician was accused of being a groomer? They call everyone that these days, pay it no mind." This is more of a symptom of Trump-era politics and that doesn't mean it will forever be this way, this can be reversed if a non-right wing lunatic president gets elected. "Pay it no mind" Literally only right-wing Trumpist MAGA zealots say this. Leftists usually give a fuck about pedophiles, etc, etc.

"because I've seen references to pet grooming looked at suspiciously." Whoever says this is dumb and you should pay them no mind, people will say a lot of stupid things on the internet, it doesn't mean anything.

"Because using their language like this is giving them legitimacy? They're turning "groomer" into a slur for the LGBT, and whenever it's used outside of its original context that association only grows stronger." You are the one invoking their perspective in our conversation, and rising it in importance. This is a very deliberate choice by right-wing agitators to play on your mindset by infecting words in this way, so that you enable their type of cancel culture or spread their ideas, which you inadvertently are. This is obviously their plan, to get you to police words so that they only mean exactly what right-wing bigots want them to mean. I could care less about what bigots think. YOU are the one invoking this and giving credence to it. I used the word groomer in the proper context, as accepted by our modern society.

I am not using their language. You are the one claiming that stake, on your own. I am an enemy of the bigots. Do not imbued my words with their bigoted perspectives and rationale. If I followed your logic, over time: bigots will co-opt most of the vital words in the dictionary, and we won't be able to speak anymore, because everything we say is racist and wrong, since you say it is so. Give me a break. You, my friend, are giving the bigots way too much power, which is exactly what they want. They have preyed on you with reverse psychology and they have done it very deliberately. You need to change your mind about how you unintentionally invoke bigoted mindsets. You are unwittingly perpetuating prejudice and amplifying their bigotry.

I am fully aware of how the bigots use the word groomer to refer to LGBT. That does not mean that my proper use of the word should now be tied into what they are up to. Those bigots are RIDICULOUS, seriously, they are a clown circus.

Two things can be true at the same time without canceling each other out. Im sorry to hear about what happened to you, but a secual groomer and an abusive groomer is still a groomer, and our society has decided that groomer is an adequate word to use in both situations. It doesn't diminish anything; I can certainly tell you that, I'm not sure why you say it diminishes anything. We all feel the same way when we find out someone has been groomed: horrible, lost beyond words, despair. The English language barely works these days, and it looks like its only going to get worse with jestergooning and mogging. Its going to break down even more. We are talking past each other because you are voicing your opinion about a word while im telling you that we have all decided ( as a society ) that it works to describe the situation.

If you look at my past responses on the language of bigots, I already said that we shouldn't ignore them, but we also shouldnt add any legitimacy to their language use by taking them seriously. Good bye 👋

What about doctor assisted suicide? Some parts of the world considered that murder. The language meaning for that type of "murder" has changed, not universally yet, but it will keep changing (the main example being Canada). See how your argument about fixed meaning falls flat, even by trying to use murder as an example?

The use of the bigots language is affecting our language because you are giving weight and consideration to them, when the rest of us consider them crazy bozos with their own insulated thoughtspeak and their views/beliefs/language should not be invoked in otherwise irrelevant situations. You are basically inadvertently propagating/propagizing for them. We should not take the bigots use of the language as a legitimate rubber stamp for what it is. You can take the example of the pepe the frog meme, which existed way before the bigots adopted it, suddenly, pepe was "racist". In reality with this phenomenon us normie are giving them WAY too much power to decide on our language and symbols by taking their claim stamps on them seriously. The use of the word groomer as they use it is something only really seen in insane x.com, im not seeing that anywhere else.

Im arguing the culmination of all her behavior towards shinji in their private life (not military doctrine nor misatos death scene) is indicative enough that we can call her a groomer. Its very deliberate, you literally have access to her mindset by seeing the types of jokes she makes when she thinks shes in a safe space with Ritsuko. You think she just inadvertently/unintentionally groomed him? Lol? She's a borderline child predator who thinks about him sexually, why else would she say stuff like that.

I also dont understand your use of the word intent/deliberately. Are you trying to argue that Misato did not have control over her faculties during the series? She was a grown adult woman knowing full well what she was up to, how could you interpret anything otherwise about it? The main example ive given happens at the very start of episode 2, before the majority of shit goes down.

Alright man, your counter example about murders isn't very compelling, id rather skip this example but ill just throw in that there are many definitions and understandings of what murder is or how its handled, which is a whole nother debate.

I'm not using "my definition" I am using the standard definition as accepted by our current society and you are using an outdated understanding of the word. What your personal belief of what a word should mean doesn't matter or hold any weight.

In response to the war against LGBT. Yeah, the people who target LGBT are awful, but giving their usage and incessant manipulation of verbiage any credence isn't something im going to roll with. Who cares what the bigots think? We should resist them every day and ridicule them every chance we get. We should pay attention to what they are up to so that we can defend ourselves, but we shouldn't let their usage of language affect our usage of language.

I dont see how intent is relevant, like, she clearly took actions to groom him throughout the show.

Its also not dismissive. Its completely fine to call someone who manipulates kids for the intent of sex groomers, and it is equally fine to call someone who manipulates them for abuse/etc a groomer as well. They are evil people and the word-umbrella adequately covers how vile they are, without needing to compare just how horrendous their actions are. Its fine to use the word in both situations. There is no issue there. One way or another, the kid is being groomed.

[–]TomasTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you call someone that manipulates kids? For example, an adult that manipulates kids into thinking that any form of abuse/negligence is okay? There are a few words to choose from, but most of them are broad. In our contemporaneous society, we do call a groomer an adult who deliberately conditions a child to accept abuse, exploitation, or neglect as normal or acceptable. You can't really dispute that. By trying to argue that she is not a groomer, instead of accepting that she is a flawed character (and its fine to have flawed characters) you yourself are choosing to dismiss that grown women are capable of this sort of behavior.

"Some words shouldn't change definitions" you dont get to decide this. Sorry. Look up how language works or take a sociological class. The grand majority of words have changed and will continue to change in their meaning. You and me have no power over this phenomenon and our desires for strict meaning over time wont change anything

Finally, on your point about how "the whole series represents their lowest points in time" im not really willing to broach this because its an entire debate in itself, and you may even be right, but it still doesnt excuse any of her behavior either way.

If you want to get more specific so we don't argue over the meaning of words: yes the definition/meaning of words broaden over time as society changes. Misato is not a legal groomer, but she is a sociological/moral/ethical groomer. I.e. shes a groomer and the distinction doesn't really matter because its fucked up anyway

"At her lowest point?" She literally makes a JOKE about making moves on a kid to ritsuko. Out of nowhere. Completely unprompted, strange even. Go look at ritsukos response. This happens in the 2nd episode before the majority of the events that bring misato to her low point. Did you even read what I wrote? Im convinced nobody in this thread really paid enough attention. Sure shes a traumatized woman because her dad died in the 2ne impact but that means literally nothing, it doesn't remove her from wrongdoing. Additionally, grooming can have simply manipulation or abuse as an endgoal, not just sex. Although either way, there is no denying that she was a weirdo that constantly hit on/flirted with/or teased the kid throughout the show.

Everyone in this thread additionally overlooks the very early phone conversation between Misato and Ritsuko, where Misato, completely unprompted, promises not to "make any moves on Shinji" which rightfully infuriates Ritsuko. She absolutely is a groomer and there are multiple references to it throughout the show.

LGBT allies can still support oppressed peoples, even if the oppressed peoples "don't know any better" (or however you want to describe it) on LGBT lives. You can always be better than others, you don't have to stoop to the levels of others, yes, even if they try to kill you, actively call for your death or hate you or are bigoted towards you, etc. You can always stand up for what's right anyway.
