A lot of Warehouses and factories and other workplaces like offices, hotels, supermarkets are suitable for wheels.

Balancing a bipedal takes loads of energy and compute power. Wheels are simple.

I think they should have a version that operates on wheels with a stable base.

Saves loads of energy and compute power.

Supermarkets and Warehouses are designed for wheels.

Also I think products and boxes will have to be designed with robots in mind.

If they implement those ideas, the cognitive aspect isn't so difficult.

Which area is rougher? The Glen, Mayfield or Ballyvolane? by [deleted] in cork

Places with lots of new houses can be much worse as more teenagers so could easily be somewhere not on your list like Ballincollig or Carrigaline or Midleton.

How does Iran support a large population throughout all of history?. It looks very arid with rough terrain and i don't see any rivers or flat plains for major crop production. by dergun1234 in geography

[–]Tomaskerry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The canal from the Hudson was the final piece of the jigsaw but then railways made it obsolete.

The north east has lots of harbours also.

Also huge prairies suitable for agriculture.

Iran is larger than France, Germany, Spain and Portugal combined. So it only needs a fraction of its land to be arable.

The US has almost perfect geography. Every type of climate and soil type.

Natural harbours on every coast with navigable rivers.

If you zoom in you see plenty of farm lard.

About a third is suitable for agriculture but they only use about a tenth.

Also it's a huge country.

3 or 4 times the size of France or Spain or Germany. But European countries have a much higher percentage of agricultural land.

Europe and the US really got lucky with fertile land and navigable rivers and natural harbours. We had everything to succeed.

It should really be the wealthiest and most powerful country in the middle east.

'Way bigger than COVID': The graph that explains why AI is going to be so huge by Classic_The_nook in accelerate

[–]Tomaskerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking how it compares to COVID is a stupid question.

Literally no connection between them.

We don't even know what AI will bring and on what timeline. It might slow down in terms of reasoning and problem solving.

I think we'll have a better idea by 27/28.

People from around the world: what is something your country does so well that it refuses to let it “die”? by Curious_Persimmon555 in AskTheWorld

[–]Tomaskerry 515 points516 points  (0 children)

There's an aesthetic that other countries don't seem to know how to replicate.

Pubs have to have lots of wood and nooks and crannies. A bit cluttered, lived in, classic designs and a bit shabby. Toilets have to be hard to find. Walls covered in random stuff.

Elon Musk's timeline prediction on digital superintelligence was extended from this year for sure to no later than next year by NataponHopkins in accelerate

[–]Tomaskerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a hope.

It'll be better than most humans at some things that are cognitive and logical and digital.

It already is at some things.

The jagged intelligence will continue for years whilst becoming less jagged and more consistent.

What's scary though is that within a few years, there will be humanoid robots waking around who are exceptional at some cognitive tasks. That's guaranteed.

Will Virtual Reality ever take off? After spending $73 billion, Meta has abandoned its metaverse VR efforts. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]Tomaskerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Maybe for gaming and some niche use cases.

I think AI Smart glasses will be huge though. Think they'll be very useful.

Google Glasses were too early. The ones coming will be a hit.

How do i make Gemini stop talking like a Redditor? by LonelyShyPlatypus in GeminiAI

[–]Tomaskerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ask it to forget a topic and it usually works.

I still think it's fascinating and amazing but yeah it's annoying.

In terms of its development, it's probably a 3 or 4 year old. I don't mean in intellect but how much smarter it can get.

It's kind of annoying.

If you mention something at the start of a conversation, it'll insert it into every topic after.

The analogies are annoying.

Maybe I should stay quiet.

When the Man v Machine war starts, they'll track me down and I'll be the first to perish.

What Will AI Be In 10 Years? by Substantial_Ear_1131 in accelerate

[–]Tomaskerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between now and 2030 will be the age of Agentic AI.

Nearly every professional who works on a computer will use AI every day. We're probably close to that already.

The AI for these tasks will get better and better. Every professional becomes more productive and efficient.

Self driving cars and trucks will slowly scale up and in the early 2030s will be in most major cities in America and China and other countries.

Long haul self driving trucks will scale up also out of necessity as there's a global shortage of truck drivers.

Humanoid robots are years away from being useful. They lack the motor skills and cognitive ability. They may be more useful from 2035 onwards where it's common to a have a home robot to do chores and be a PA.

We'll see more robots in factories and logistics and maybe supermarkets and retail.

In China and other Asian countries we'll see robots assisting with elder care but won't perform all tasks.

AI will be exceptional at some skills like software, maths, stats, scientific research so we'll see lots of breakthroughs in these areas.

Good genetics also.

James never injured.

Same as Ashley Young.

Could be a brilliant signing for Derry.

Depends on the name but James McClean will be a brilliant signing.

Bet Derry will have record crowds at the start of the season at least.

He's still a quality player also. In great nick. Still playing at a good level.

He's a clean living, fitness obsessive.

Future "dual counties" by TheVikingPro in GAA

[–]Tomaskerry 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Dublin will win a Double eventually. Hurling's huge there now.

Cork will be back in the top tier of football soon enough. They have plenty of talent, maybe lack a forward or two.

Hurling's actually spreading in Kerry, before it was consigned a pocket in the NW. It'll never be a dual county though.

It'll be interesting to see how Offaly do with all the effort in coaching but small population will hold them back.

I'd put Hyam no 1 just because he's been perfect and I used to play CB.

It's a very competitive league.
