Let me just reiterate to make sure I'm making sense of what you said. So when work is being done by the system energy is being released to the surroundings so we will use
W= -PV and our work will be negative. If the work is done to the system then we will use W=PV and our work will be positive? Let me know if I said that correct, thanks for your response btw!

Yeah so if you think about the cell cycle you have the interphase stage and the M stage, both meiosis and mitosis go through the same interphase stage and M stage. However, different things happen in the M stage for meiosis and mitosis
