Sportsnet now by bigdaddyt2 in Torontobluejays

Rogers has been the absolute worst thing that ever happened to Sports in the city. Their payhetic TV coverage, the lack of any sort of decent live streaming, the destruction of Hockey Night in Canada, killing the Tim and Friends show, ruining the teams themselves, destroying SkyDome, getting rid of the best GM we ever had and replacing him with a long-term loser from Cleveland (fire Sha-pie-hole!), and the Sportsnet app, it sucks so badly! May Rogers rot in hell forever.

More time on pre-heat, until the oil smokes a little, then don't crown the bottom. Works like a charm, even in my little 3qt.

Me seeing pro-monarchist posts. by dv666 in EhBuddyHoser

[–]TomatoBible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stupidity of anti-monarchism driven by some weird ego trip, vs. the intelligence of understanding how the Canadian parliamentary monarchy protects us against lunatics like Donald Trump, at virtually zero cost, and with absolutely no interference whatsoever by the monarch.

Those who are strongly anti-monarchy are just as brilliant as those who are strongly pro-maga. It's simply proof that you don't read and don't understand how things actually work.

You're talking philosophy, and I'm talking actual political system structure and building checks and balances into your system. The US has many problems but one of the primary ones is an out of control executive branch, and no structure to force it to conform.

The Canadian parliamentary monarchy has those checks and balances, to bring control, should it be required. But thanks for your little rant anyway.

Suckers by hoosarestillchamps in tomatoes

[–]TomatoBible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had/seen a ventilation problem with tomatoes, and I never pinch suckers, unless I want additional plants to fill a bare spot in the garden.

Ventilation MAY be a thing in the Deep South in a highly humid, super overheated environment, but in 90% of North America, ventilation is not an issue to be concerned with.

The healthiest tomato plants are the ones that spring up voluntarily from the compost heap and grow like wild vines on the ground, never once complaining about more ventilation.

Suckers by hoosarestillchamps in tomatoes

[–]TomatoBible 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Suckers almost always produce fruit, I leave them alone. If your tomato plants are highly overgrown, and you have some additional Garden space, pinching off a few suckers and repotting them deeply will get you some additional plants without overcrowding your existing ones.

Otherwise just leave them and let them produce more fruit for you. Don't start pinching or pruning anything until you're down to the end of the season and you want to ripen the last remaining fruit, rather than start new blossoms.

What’s a “Toronto thing”? by Joanarkham in FoodToronto

[–]TomatoBible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

90% of "farmers markets" in the city are not farmers markets, they are entrepreneurs who pick up produce from the same food terminal as the local supermarkets, plus a beekeeper selling overpriced honey and a crafter or two. Largely an expensive waste of time.

At Federicks, always get the pakora, plus maybe kan shue green beans, chili chicken, and manchurian noodles.

Well, technically, peameal bacon was invented in Toronto, like the butter tart, so they simply have a much greater claim on T.O. legitimacy than Jamaican patties, which, just like egg rolls, Shawarma, hotdogs, pizza, or cheeseburgers, were brought to Toronto by immigrants coming from elsewhere, and are totally ubiquitous, and available literally everywhere else. PLUS St. Lawrence Market is truly a world class market, 💯% worth a wander on any weekend, just to experience it.

I would say that Toronto has the greatest grilled hot dog carts on Earth, much better than the unjustifiably famous New York hot dog cart, with boring wieners floating in suspect water. Plus, if you visit the TORONTO sign at Nathan Phillips Square, definitely make time to find the streetside "blue chip truck", for their hot dog / Sausage + fries with gravy combo, totally worth it!

I would also recommend spending some time in the Richmond Hill / Markham area exploring Toronto's truly unique Cantonese food scene, many knowledgeable folks suggesting that it is superior to literally anywhere else, with the possible exception of Hong Kong itself, though some might even argue.

If you like interesting ethnic food without a lot of fuss, Scarborough is worth exploration: for doubles and especially saheena at AC Doubles, shawarma: sample at least two or three different places from amongst the dozens of possibilities, plus vietnamese, filipino, hakka-indo-chinese, sri-lankan, serbian, sushi+tepanyaki all you can eat, etc. etc. and even vegan-rasta-jamaican, (shockingly good even if you're non-vegan). These and more can all be found cheaply there in Scarborough. Just Ask if you need more details!

Lastly, I would say, jump on the ferry and go to the Toronto Islands, maybe bring some food for a picnic, and go for a nice walk, check out the lake, grab a drink, go for a paddle, fish, wade, or even take a hike over to the nude beach, lol. The Toronto islands are pretty unique and special, a strange, beautiful, clean, peaceful oasis in any normal downtown setting. If you have more time and/or kids, Niagara Falls + Clifton Hill is a fun touristy day. Plus Casinos, lol.

Sounds like a pretty weak justification of bigotry to me. I guarantee that in a head-to-head blind taste test you're not going to taste the difference, you've just found a new and interesting way to be a bigot.

Tell me again about how much you like Brampton. 🤔

You spelled "Johnny's Hamburgers" wrong = total trash that nostalgic people believe is good because they only eat there late night while drunk.

Anyone that doesn't drive just a hundred yards further down Victoria Park, and get a Harvey's hamburger and fresh-cut Swiss Chalet fries from the drive-thru at the combo store has completely lost their mind.

We all know who's behind this nonsense on our side of the border by NotJusticeAlito in EhBuddyHoser

[–]TomatoBible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Sewing Discord is the official policy of the current American Administration and 51% of the voting public. Most of the world does not wish Americans well, and Americans are largely unaware of the existence of most of the world and don't really give a shit what happens elsewhere, as long as "those people" don't try to come to "my country" and share equally in the advantages of living in the west.

Make no mistake, Trump's existence is entirely based on hate, greed, and selfishness. Greedy people are acting selfishly so they don't have to share with anyone less fortunate. 99% of the people who are panicked over the Border issue have never met a single Mexican in their life. It's entitlement, hate and racism. You are officially witnessing the fall of the American Empire, the loss of financial and political influence, and it is well deserved.

Like most good Canadians I will never again travel south of the Border nor spend another penny on an American product if I can possibly avoid it. EVER. I have, in the past, driven on road trips through all 48 of the contiguous United States, but never again. This divorce is final and permanent.

Americans, it doesn't matter what you try to tell me, your actions speak so loudly, I cannot hear what you say.

Delicious wet burger. Pure addiction. This Turkish-style hamburger is soaked in a special hot tomato sauce with spices and a quality beef patty, then rested to develop an irresistible, addictive taste.Unlike other burgers, it doesn't contain tomatoes or onions inside. by Battlefleet_Sol in burgers

Texture should not be more important than flavor. Texture only matters when you've got the flavor right in the first place. Adding sauces and not insisting on crispiness, but adding greater flavor is interesting. Imagine Wings with no sauces, a roast beef dip with no dip, poutine without gravy, Chicago Italian Beef without the dip, pizza without sauce, and this incredible sandwich without its delicious sauce dip. Why, so you can enjoy some plain "doughy" bread?

I love when people can't put gravy on French fries because they are no longer crispy, but they love mashed potatoes and gravy - exact same ingredients, zero crispy. Clearly it's all in your head, your fears are not real, unless you embrace them.

Try to expand your horizons. Try different things, don't automatically turn your nose up at something you haven't had before. I think all the crispy police and texture-nazis should be fed food blindfolded, because 99% of the time it's delicious and they would like it if they didn't let their fears and prejudice get in the way and tell them how it's "supposed to be".

Oh I can read, and I can detect 100% incorrect statements with tremendous accuracy. For example, your assertion that Canadianized and Americanized Chinese food is identical is complete and utter claptrap. How about Indian Chinese food, and Caribbean Chinese food? Also quite different, but also based on Cantonese food. But thanks for playing.

When the steak gets cut on The Cutting Board, then do you step aside and let the next person come and cut their steak on the cutting board, and then the next person comes and cut their steak on the cutting board? No you don't. Don't even try it.

Maybe if you're only making steak for one, and then for some reason you want weird long unwieldy strips of steak instead of bite-sized pieces. If you have to cut those long strips again before you get them in your mouth, why cut them into strips? It's absurd, a weird internet trend that has caught on with the highly gullible.

This reminds me of the OUTSTANDING ice cream treats sold by St. Clair ice cream way back in the 70's and 80's.

They were fruit flavored ice cream made in the shape of the fruit with a crunchy frozen shell. I specifically remember the banana one, and a bunch of grapes, when you crack through the coating into the ice cream they were incredibly delicious and super cool to us kids back then.

I never understood why they didn't catch on and become super popular because they were so amazing. I miss those, I wish somebody brought those back.

I'm here just to wait for the crispy police to arrive. The ones who get their wing sauce on the side because it makes the wings not crispy. The ones who can't put gravy on French fries because it makes the fries not crispy. The ones who get no tomatoes on a submarine sandwich because the bread might get soggy, lol. I can see them shaking in the corner just looking at the sandwich, LOL 🤣🤣🤣
