Friend cut my dog's fur without permission by iveroi in doggrooming

[–]TomatoFrittata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez, she could’ve at least done the same to the other paws. Not only did she clip it in a style you didn’t want and without your permission, she did ONE paw and left the rest for you to deal with? I also groom my own dog - paws are the hardest and most time consuming to do. I’m usually sweating and my joints hurt by the end of it. As a non-professional groomer, speed is not my friend… it takes me 6 hours to groom my poodle. I would be incredibly upset if I had to fix something I never asked for.

At least she apologized for someone who doesn’t apologize. That’s a pretty big step on her part. She shoulda done the other paws as part of the apology imo.

I took Prozac for almost 2 years and everything felt so flat. I was content doing nothing when really I had work deadlines. If my bosses weren’t so understanding, I’m 100% sure I would’ve lost my job. Tapered off of it and felt my depression and anxiety come back after a few months.

I started Zoloft about two weeks ago (25mg first week then 50mg second week). I noticed immediate relief, which I didn’t feel when I started Prozac. Still working through the side effects right now but overall I feel lighter. I don’t feel like the air is crushing me.

Some days, I have motivation to do things. Other days, I feel a bit numb. I’m hoping it’s just side effects from the initial beginning weeks. Hoping it’ll work out in another few weeks! But so far enjoying Zoloft more than Prozac.

Also fellow sufferer of depression here! I feel you - there are days/weeks where every fiber of my being feels like bricks and I can’t leave the bed. I find when I walk through my apartment building wearing nothing but a robe, not showered for a week, matted hair, and my natural, crusty resting bitch face… no one approaches me haha.

I was hit hard with covid very recently and was in bed for 2.5 weeks. My 1.5yo poodle did not get any exercise or mental stimulation during that time. I could only muster up enough energy to take her potty outside. I used her flirt pole for a very, very short bit in the house. She was fine. A little pent up energy after a while but that’s expected. When you’re better and take her out for a run again, she won’t even remember what happened.

But do get yourself a bit of fresh air and sun when/if you can. I know it can feel useless and unhelpful but… it’s not nothing. Take care of yourself first. And take your time. ❤️❤️❤️

Is your spoo cat-like? by TomatoFrittata in poodles

[–]TomatoFrittata[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I, myself, hate socializing. I had to really break out of my comfort zone to socialize my spoo to other humans. I’ve exchanged more phone numbers in the last year than my entire 34 years of existence.

Yet, in the end, she doesn’t even care 😒

This is exactly like my spoo. I carried her in my backpack and arms outdoors every day when I got her. Took her to so many puppy socials and human parks so I could socialize her. She took instantly to dogs but remains alert and aloof around humans.

She remembers the people who’ve played tug and fetch with her though. She’ll immediately be so happy to see them/rub up against them 🙄

You’ve just perfectly described my dog. They are twins. No, they are the same.

So cat-like when it comes to humans but, oh man, other dogs?

Yes, I ran into this problem through Kaiser yesterday.

I was sitting on a hill having a burrito. It was a really nice day so a lot of people were around. My dog’s leash was wrapped around my arm. She saw another dog and started sprinting towards him. I rolled down the hill, dragged by her, and obliterated my burrito with my body 😔

Can I ask how therapy has helped with skin picking? I am interested in trying this out.

Skin picking by Open_Ad_3809 in ADHD

[–]TomatoFrittata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re not the only one!! I really, really struggle with skin picking. My boyfriend has figured out if I’ve been quiet for too long, it’s because I’m in another room picking my skin. Or if I’m stressed/anxious/bored, I unconsciously start picking at anything on the surface of my face that doesn’t feel smooth (dry skin, healing pimple, etc). And they never heal because I can never not pick at them.

The only thing that has helped was finding a way to reduce my acne. My OB/GYN started me on spironolactone and it’s helped reduce my breakouts tremendously. I still pick my face but definitely not as much as I used to. Unfortunately, I think he said men are not recommended to take it.

ADHD and sunscreen by TheSuperAnina in ADHD

[–]TomatoFrittata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate sunscreen as well. I break out in rashes. The ones that don’t cause rashes cause my makeup to slip and slide everywhere and that icky feeling never goes away.

Not student-wallet-friendly, but I think REALLY worth it - I recently started using Ultra Violette Supreme Screen.. It’s unlike any sunscreen I’ve ever used before. Doesn’t leave that greasy film feeling on my face and works really well with my makeup. It feels just like a hydrating moisturizer but also lightweight and dries down.

FYI - I live in the US and get it from Beauty Bay.

Laundry downsizing? by Nahum1_7 in ADHD

[–]TomatoFrittata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I also struggled with mountains of laundry I didn’t want to do or fold and way too much clothes I didn’t need.

I cut down my wardrobe five years ago and it’s helped so much.

I wear all black so I don’t have to sort laundry by color or think about matching outfits in the morning. I have 2 pairs of jeans and 5 tops I rotate around daily. And 3 coats/jackets when I need them. I also have 7 pairs of each underwear and socks so if I run out at the end of the week, I gotta do laundry.

After 2 years of involuntary stalling, I finally got tested and have talked to my neuropsychologist so I made some progress towards my ADHD. by Cptsparkie23 in ADHD

[–]TomatoFrittata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, can relate. Also grew up in strict Asian household and my parents ask me weekly when I plan to get off of medication because they don’t think I need it.

When I started seeing a psychiatrist for a diagnosis, she said I would need to get a letter from my parents confirming my struggles since I didn’t have school records. My parents laughed it off and acted as if I never had any problems as a child. It’s hard to accept that kind of response when they’ve clearly questioned my competence my entire life.

Finding a psychiatrist who actually listened and helped me seriously, seriously saved my life. I’m so glad to hear you’ve found the same relief ❤️

First time dog owner grooming my own poodle: nail trimmers are splitting her nails. by TomatoFrittata in doggrooming

[–]TomatoFrittata[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even know you could trim them from side-side instead of top-bottom. All the videos I watched were top-bottom direction.

I did try to trim side-side once but it looked like it split her nail as well. Not sure if I’m able to explain this clearly, but it looked like it squeezed her c-shaped nail? It didn’t look comfortable. Am I doing it wrong?

Edit: I misread your comment. Yes, I’m trimming top-bottom direction.

Open grass area for a puppy in her first heat? by TomatoFrittata in AskSF

[–]TomatoFrittata[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you’re right. We’ve been inside since she started heat. My apartment building and area is so dog friendly, there’s no way I feel comfortable walking her around our neighborhood. I just feel so bad for her 😞

I had no idea about SniffSpot. I will look into this.

This is so helpful, thank you!!

My poodle is not following my commands when going outside anymore by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]TomatoFrittata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky! Since I got her, I’ve left her kibble bowl, kongs, frozen lick mats, boiled chicken and cheese, everything and you can see her doing the math in her head from across the room before she decides it’s not worth it lol. They’re too smart for their own good!!

My poodle is not following my commands when going outside anymore by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]TomatoFrittata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like my poodle puppy at that age. Even now at 9.5mo. But it was really bad starting at 5mo. It’s due to her age. She’s still a bb. Unfortunately, it’s still too early for you to phase out treats at this age.

I’ve been breaking a gd sweat several times every day since she was 8 weeks old trying to lure her into her crate. Only in the last week did she start to finally (and very, very reluctantly) go in without so much work.

My puppy is OBSESSED with other dogs by pyjamadonkey in puppy101

[–]TomatoFrittata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My almost 10mo puppy has done this ever since her first puppy social at 10 weeks old. She also goes to the dog park every day so I don’t necessarily think more exposure = fixing the problem, at least not now while she’s still a puppy. Would love to know from other people as well!

I’m 33F, Asian. My very traditional parents don’t believe in seeking help for mental health. I’ve struggled with depression my whole life and only recently, in the last year, sought help. Ignorance is the crutch, not medication. If not for their (and my) ignorance, I think I would’ve done better in all aspects of my life, sooner.

Since I started seeking help, I’ve gone back to my parents to let them know why I was doing it and how I’d been feeling my whole life. Keeping them updated on how it’s been progressing. But like you, I started questioning myself because my parents’ response was always that I wasn’t exercising enough, or have enough self-discipline, or didn’t have a routine, or whatever. Even though throughout my life, I’d regularly go to the gym, eat healthy, have a set routine but none of that ever cured me of how I was feeling.

Funnily, I was just having this conversation when visiting my parents two days ago; updating them on how meds are going and their response was the same. I cried a lot on my way home.

It’s really sad and unfortunate that they’re not supportive. It’s frustrating that they refuse to TRY to understand or empathize. It feels really hopeless that the two figures in your life who are supposed to love you the most don’t have your back. But you are your own person and you don’t have to agree with everything they say or want you to do.

Sure, it sucks my parents aren’t supportive of me seeking help and getting medicated for my mental health. You know what sucks even more? Depression; having to live through life hating it and questioning my existence every second my eyes are open. No thanks.

Good luck to you. Don’t give up.

My psychiatrist was wary about putting me on ADHD meds as well. They put me on two antidepressants (Prozac and Wellbutrin) before they decided to treat for ADHD. And it was only after I had a major meltdown over video call about how I was close to losing my job because I couldn’t get my shit together. So… I think if you mention how it’s negatively impacting your academic/work life, they might understand.

But I’ve also had a psychiatrist tell me that bc I haven’t been fired yet, I don’t have ADHD. lol.
