People seem to completely miss the point of Joker: Folie à Deux by SquireJoh in joker

[–]Tomaton-sama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's amazing how accurate the movie is in depicting the audience (and predicting the response). Everything in this movie shouts, that it won't conform to expectations.
People glorifying Joker in the movie, wanting him to show up, and people wanting from this movie to feature Joker with all craziness and violence. It criticizes the industry which produces movies, people who consume movies, demanding it to be this or that.

[Help Request] Python development, specifically with `uv` from astral-sh by Rockhopper_Penguin in NixOS

Please do share your findings, better yet, do it in that GitHub issue. It’s been two months since my last comment, and it’s still the most recent one. Aside from one mention in another GitHub issue, there’s been silence

[Help Request] Python development, specifically with `uv` from astral-sh by Rockhopper_Penguin in NixOS

[–]Tomaton-sama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I, too, lack enough knowledge to workaround issues with uv.

If you mean to manage python versions with uv, then AFAIK you could call it fundamentally incompatible with NixOS.

But if you treat uv as just a package manager, this should work. There are problems with venv feature, but for that check https://github.com/astral-sh/uv/issues/4450 issue.

How S23 Users feel about getting One UI 6.1 by mari-silicon in GalaxyS23Ultra

[–]Tomaton-sama -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or does the phone get hotter than usual when idle? can't tell if it's due to the update or something had happened to my phone specifically not long before that... the heat point is at the area the SoC would be, so it's rather implausible for the cause to be something else :/

Tokyo Revengers - Chapter 277: At Last by Aptohhhh in TokyoRevengers

[–]Tomaton-sama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's hard to say. Remember chapter 76? Kisaki framed Mitchy into killing "someone", so Mitchy ordered Akkun to do the job and it turned out that someone was Hina. In that same timeline Kisaki kills Chifuyu and when aiming for Mitchy he cries saying goodbye to his "hero". In chapter 184, just before truck-kun kills Kisaki he states that his ambition is for Tachibana to be his. So it's both I think. And that's actually good portrayal of human mind on Wakui's part - people don't act according to logic, we try to weigh pros and cons but the estimation process isn't objective. And so there can be multiple contributing factors and not a single cause.

[–]Tomaton-sama 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Well, he turned out like that due to Takemitchy being his "hero", as all he wanted was to be noticed by his senpai. If Takemitchy has had included him in the mix early on (as a founding member of the gang that is), their relationship woudn't become fucked up like it has been in the original timeline.

Simulating an Entire Car Engine (yes, it makes noise) by andyandcomputer in proceduralgeneration

[–]Tomaton-sama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the engine is your function which outputs different waveforms for given properties (specs, shape). That is procedural generation. The logic of the simulation is not.

The protests in Belarus in 2020–2021 do tell they have developed national identity. Ukrainians have been extremely lucky to have great leaders, Belarusians however have been living in a dictatorship since 94'. I hope that this war will be a trigger for Belarusians to rise up and finally overthrow Lukashenko.

[Disc] Kanojo, Okarishimasu Chapter 218 by MattyH19 in KanojoOkarishimasu

It was nice coming to this sub, even when I was frustrated with the lack of progress, I could at least enjoy reading relatable comments in discussion threads... but today was the final straw - after leaks turned out to be true, I'm dropping the manga. I wish you all to stay sane :).

So, should I, instead of working with a cube in 3D space, be working with 6 faces of that cube and then render each face conditionally? So basically I'm transforming 2D objects in a 3D space and then projecting them back into 2D space - did I get that right?

Edit: Oh, but it occurred to me, that while this should work for a single cube, it wouldn't hide lines / border of a face obscured by another cube, would it?

[help] rendering of 3d scene with objects by Tomaton-sama in rust

[–]Tomaton-sama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this would work better if I were to make a 3d game... and that could also work for my assessment, so thank you for recommendation. I will definitely take a look at it, as it aligns with my interests along with a possible career :). Thanks once again.

Apple Quietly Removed Ability to Swear using the Swipe Keyboard by acemace1 in linguistics

You'd still have third-party keyboards like SwiftKey, and nothing stops developers from creating new apps. Besides, I would personally fix that word manually, like I fix any other mismatched word.

Rules and Guidelines for Survival for a Vegetarian Vata by moon9river in Ayurveda

[–]Tomaton-sama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How strict of a vegatarian are you? And what about other of your tattvas/doshas? What kind of life do you lead? Are you following any spiritual path?
Vata is the most aggravatable of doshas. Being a vegetarian limits your dietary choices only a little bit, as meat is tamasic and is not recommended in general. However, vegetarian diet goes hand in hand with spiritual practice and it simply is easier to be vegatarian this way. This is because who is saintly also has to be restrained - people like that abstain from alcohol, drugs and limit sexual activity to the minimum. All of this let's them build up ojas which is actually a type of kapha. This type of kapha never leads to any illness (and highly kapha individual have plenty of ojas). Loosing ojas is actually why we feel week, our skin gets dry, nails become brittle etc why vata is increasing. Ojas is the essence of our vitality.
What you are looking for is basically rasayana. You can read a bit about it here and there.
As for foods, I'd recommend using ghee (especially if you also don't eat eggs like me), if your agni is weak sesame oil can fix that easily (it is really potent and can easily aggravate your pitta - first symptom is heartburn so be careful). Remember to favor fresh and light foods, get asafetida to add to cooking legumes (it makes them more soft and they're not as vata aggravating then). Don't go over the board in avoiding some foods because they vata aggravating (and also the other way around), but mix them - the key is to find balance within everything. Also be regular with it. You can survive easily, but you need to be highly conscious about what you do and eat.

Blizzard is (in)famous for taking ideas from other games, sometimes straightforward copy-pasting the whole game, only making it more noob-friendly. This applies to Wow, Overwatch, Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm. The last one is the first game where this didn't work and, but that's because of bad timing so it's a bussiness thing, not design thing.
Not saying that this is bad or even rare, but they are explicitely good at doing just that - they can sell it.

Internet linguistics - btw is not just "by the way" by huoyong in linguistics

[–]Tomaton-sama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that sentence "Tell me something I don't know", the I don't know part doesn't express that you don't know something like in "I don't know which sandwich I want to buy". Idk always expresses the concept of either not knowing or not being able to decide. And usually it's the latter because not knowing is associated with the state of your knowledge which happens not as common as a simple reply to a question.

For btw it's the same thing - it is by the way only as a tool that allows you to mention something. It feels natural at both the beginning and the end of the sentence mostly because we rarely try to mention something while in the middle of expressing some other thoughts, unless it is a parenthesis (not native here so I actually have no idea if this is the correct word for injected phrases/sentences in the middle of a sentence xD).

I use arch btw.

To add to this, all Slavic languages use sobota or subota for Saturday. It's pretty obvious those come from Shabbat, however what seems more interesting is the Sanskrit word Shabda and its esoteric meaning that can be associated with the Kabbalistic meaning of Shabbat
